I have just moved to fedora from ubuntu.i am trying to install wifi netword driver on my laptop but its not helping me.I have Dell inspiron 1545 with Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b netword card.i'm unable to find firmware package for my network card. what should i do to use wifi netword on my laptop? where to find and install the driver to activate wifi on my laptop?
View 10 RepliesI have an emachines D620 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 with a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01). I havent done anything with it and cant seem to get it to work. I know this because when I had visto on it the card worked, but know it says that its firmware is not enabled and ive tried installing the drivers using the Additional Drivers under Administration. I would like it to be working so I can use my laptop's internet.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got my Lenovo T60 laptop wireless running without too much trouble, the only problem is when i close my laptop lid and open it again the wirelessconnection is down and i simply cant click on the network icon in the notification area to re-connect as wlan0 is inactive. If i go to System>admin>network i cant activate the interface either as the 'active' button is greyed out, the only way to get the thing to come alive again (other than a full reboot) is to toggle the wireless switch on my laptop off and then back on.Not sure this should be required, i've got the interface configured to start automatically but it doesnt seem to care.

I normally use Ubuntu but I am currently going to college and have a class starting in two weeks. I am just going to be using it for completing Lab Homework and general use. And do I have to activate my graphics driver like I do in Ubuntu, even though its in Virtual Box? I have a Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS w/512mb RAM.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was running Fedora 13 on my old computer with a nvidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card using the nvidia-173xx driver from fusion. After upgrading to Fedora 14 (the first day of its release) the X server wasn't working anymore, the screen just froze up after the progress bar. With Alt+F4 I "moved" to text mode and gave the startx command, but I got the fatal error message that there was no usable configuration detected. I deleted the xorg.conf file and afterwards I was able to start X again. I use the nouveau driver now, but it doesn't nearly work as good as the nvidia-173xx driver. I have it installed, but when I try to activate it (by running nvidia-xconfig as root) the X server doesn't work again after restart, and I have to do the same thing all over again.

I just installed Linux Mint 9 as a dual boot install with Win XP. Trying to activate wireless network card driver and video driver. Pops up: "You are not authorized to perform this action".How do I get authorized?
Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.

I have 2 PC : Big and Small. On both, there is Ubuntu Lucid. On Big, there is a WLAN PCI card from D-Link, and on Small an USB-Stick USB from TP-Link.
* On Big, the WLAN connection is performed during the boot, and is active even without opening a session (i.e. if one still on the login screnn of GDM)
* On Small, the WLAN connection is activated only AFTER opening a session.
How can i do on Small to have the same behaviour as on Big ?
My WiFi switch (button) is not working on Ubuntu but on windows 7 works ok. My WiFi card Boardcom 802.11 driver working good on linux, but I cannot activate wireless switch button. Without it my WiFi not working. My notebook is HP 6735s.

I'm an experienced user in Windows but a complete novice in Linux. I have a dual boot with ubuntu and 7 ultimate, the thing is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wi-fi card. Windows Device Manager tells me that my card is "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Minicard" made by Broadcom. I don't know if my problem is with a driver or incompatible hardware, the ISO is perfect because I already installed linux on every computer in my house.

What is the better thing to do:
a) install a new (better) WiFi card inside my laptop,
b) remove the card inside my laptop and use a WiFi USB stick,
c) remove the card inside my laptop and use a WiFi PCMCIA card?
Is simply being external to the laptop going to give me better performance in terms of locating and using a WiFi connection? On the laptop I'm currently using I know that merely rotating the laptop can boost the connection signal strenght by 15% or more. So, I'm really wondering about this. btw, I'm seriously giving thought to glueing a 3 or 4 inch lenght of 1/2 inch pvc pipe to the lid of my laptop as a holder for a homebrew parabolic WiFi dish. The idea is to attach the USB WiFi stick to a piece of coat hanger wire. Then slide the bottom and top of the coat hanger wire into a piece of paper (that's had aluminum foil glued to it) forming a parabola behind the WiFi stick. By rotating the parabola in the pvc holder I can instantly directionalize the reception/transmission of the Wifi USB stick. I'm wondering if anyone in the forum has experienced the difference between an internal vs an external WiFi device? Secondarily, has anyone in the forum tried the parabola trick?

I have just installed Fedora 15 on my desktop machine. It has found my WiFi card and has installed a driver but it is an incorrect driver. How do I remove it and install the correct one? The driver that is installed is a RaLInk RT 2800pci but the one it needs is a RaLink RT2860. This is the driver that I used with the same WiFi card in Fedora 14 using Ndiswrapper. Do I need ndiswrapper this time too?
