That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
Has anyone here gotten the Sun Java plugin (1.6.0_20) working in Firefox under F13? I'm using the Firefox 3.6.3-4 RPM supplied by F13, and I created the link in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins to ${JAVA_HOME}/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so as I've always done, but the plugin fails to show up when I check the plugins in Firefox. I installed some other plugins in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and they work fine, only Java doesn't work. It's weird because I've never had a problem getting the Java plugin to work in Firefox before this, and I've done it a million times.
I don't have the Fedora-supplied java packages installed, so it's not a issue of conflicting plugins. And the plugin does work in Opera. I also tried the 1.6.0_18 plugin from Sun, and that didn't work in Firefox either, though it works in F11. I can't figure out what's causing this just in F13. So far this is the only problem I've had in F13, everything else has worked great.
firefox plugin for java. I searched the threads but no joy. this is what I have:
Code:
[root@...]# rpm -qa | grep java
tzdata-java-2010j-1.fc13.noarch
java_cup-0.11a-4.fc13.noarch
[Code]....
and when I type in firefox: <about: plugins>; there are no references to java.
what's the deal with this line in the code??? --> system-switch-java-1.1.5-1.fc12.noarch?
I'm trying to install Java on Firefox 3.6, and the instructions tell me to go to the Plugins sub-directory of the directory containing Firefox. Problem is, that sub-directory does not exist!

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently found out that my Firefox 4 plugin for Java is not working. My problem is that i have Java installed (unfortunately I found out that I accidentally installed the Sun Java and not the OpenJDK) and it is working, but the plugin just refuses to work.
However it should be installed because of the following output:

So I thought that maybe the wrong Java version is used, but it doesn't seem to be so:
Code:
There are 4 programs which provide 'java'.
So in theory OpenJDK should be selected and work with Firefox, unfortunately it doesn't.

Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else. So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4). Except the POS doesn't work.
To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing. I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal. As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it. how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?
How do I get java plugin to work in firefox 3.5.3 (default install of fc11 x86)64)? I removed the iced tea java completely. I installed the sun java rpm, but I cannot figure out where to link the plugin to. The firefox directory (listing below) has no plugins directory.

There is a thread in this forum that points to this website [URL] as a place for good directions on getting the new Java and the new Firefox to cooperate with one another. I followed it and was unable to get that to happen. To test it I used the official U.S. clock website. Don't quite know what to ask, except what did I do wrong? I following the directions to the letter, but in the "aboutlugins" part, Java doesn't show up.

how to run a java application on a 64 bit Firefox install on Fedora, but I didn't find any simple and direct way to do it. So I'll post this here, hoping that people who search for this problem can easily find this really quick solution.
1-> on the terminal do the usual su -
2-> yum install jre
3.> make a link in /home/your_name/.mozilla/plugins/ folder to the file located at /usr/java/jre1.6.0_23/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
(just select the file, press ctrl+shift and drag it to the plugins folder)
4-> go to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp from firefox and test your install
Piece of cake, but it doesn't show up in search engines that easily when I look for: jre firefox 64 plugin fedora Granted that many tutorials mention the linking method, but most either tell you to install the binary/rpm from the java site or even installing the 32bit version for older fedoras... yum makes it so much easier.

After restart Firefox i don't see any new plugin. ?
see the released of Mozilla Firefox 3.6. However, it seems that Firefox 3.6 does not like current OpenJDK Java plugin installed by Fedora 12. (IT SUPPORTS NOW SEE SOLUTION BELOW) A little google turned out that in this release Firefox dropped the old Open Java Integration mechanism, which is currently being used by OpenJDK Java plugin. [Code] Now I have to manually install the JRE from Sun to get Java plugin in Firefox 3.6.
Is there any plan for OpenJDK to catch up with this change of Java plugin? I hope the Firefox 3.6 shipped with Fedora 13 could have OpenJDK Java plugin support.
Yes, OpenJDK did have plan for the new java plugin. Actually it arrived with IcedTea B17 (Alpha version, of course). However, the new plugin support is only enabled in Fedora 13 build config. Now our task is simple, upgrade the OpenJDK to Fedora 13 build in rawhide, like what we have done to Firefox.
[Code]....
Reboot your Firefox 3.6 and it's done. I have tested with Citrix java client and RuneScape. Citix works fine, but the RuneScape crashed with my Compiz. Switch off Compiz and the RuneScape works fine, too. It is not a big deal for me since I do not play RuneScape. So basically it WORKS.
im using the Fedora 14 64Bit Version, and ive wanted to install the Java plugin for Firefox, but everytime Ive wanted to install it, it tells me this:
Code:

failed to read link /usr/lin64/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so: No such file or directory
the primary link for libjavaplugin.so.x86_64 must be /usr/lin64/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so
[root@JaKsi JaKo]#
Why lin64? Can I change this?

What is the best way for installing Firefox and Sun JDK 32 bits alongside my 64 bits version?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed FC13 and am having a problem with Java sites in Firefox. Everything is a fresh installation from the LiveCD (Gnome) and I'm dual booting with XP.
My laptop is an older Presario 2170us / 2G Celeron / 512 Ram / 40 G HDD.
If I go to the preferences of Firefox and disable Java, I don't have the issue but I can't open sites that are Java-intensive, such as AOL.
Once I re-inable Java and open Firefox, as soon as I get to AOL, I am dumped out of the Gnome GUI to the plain text list of startup items, then returned to the FC login screen and then I get back to the desktop.
When I open Firefox again, I get a page about the failure to open AOL... but I don't restore it...instead, I open a new site (such as this Forum), then close Firefox and reopen it.... but when I go to AOL, it happens all over.
As a recent (almost) convert from Ubuntu, I'd like to solve this. I used FC10 on my laptop but had too many SE-Linux issues (I couldn't do much without generating an error), so I went back to Ubuntu. I tried FC11 and FC12 but still had some problems. Now I'm trying FC13 and like what I'm seeing so far...except for what appears to be a Java issue in Firefox.
i have the machines with both fedora12 and fedora13 installed. i am unable to view some java applet applications in 64 bit firefox.so i am looking for of installing 32-bit firefox in my machines(after tested and confirmed with one of my rhel-64 bit machines).but i am clueless how to achieve it in fedora12 and 13. i tried yum inastall firefox.i386 then firefox.i586,and then firefox.i686..but dint find any expected results.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running F12 on a lenovo X61. 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) If my machine is quiet for a while, then suddenly needs to make a noise (eg some sort of notification event), the audio "pops" when the first sound is made. It sounds like the noise you hear in the speakers when the audio cable is connected to a live jack while the speakers are on. A static POP.
Once that initial pop is over, the audio sounds exactly like I expect it to.Then, if there is no sound for a period of about 10 seconds, I can hear the audio pop again. If I then play a sound, I will hear the initial static pop again. It's as if pulseaudio is powering up my audio system when it needs it, then powers it down when it doesn't need it any more. And, in fact, I found that something is going in in the kernel. If I look at lsmod, I can see things changing.I did an lsmod with the sound "on", then waited for it to pop off, then did it again and noticed these diffs:
< snd_hda_intel 25080 3

> snd_hda_intel 25080 2

[code].....
Now I also have F12 running on a desktop machine that uses an nVidia chipset. I have no audio pops on that system. I noticed that there are similar changes in lsmod on that system, though.
I have fedora 11 kde 4.2 installed. Everything up to date. My sound cracks/pops/sparks a lot. I followed some instructions on fedora faq, but that didn't help. what I can check? Also, there is so much to understand about linux sound issues (ie. alsa, pulse, etc...), where can I read about what is what in linux sound?
