Fedora :: FC12 X86_64 Rpmfusion K3b-extras-nonfree Conflict?

Nov 25, 2010

I am trying to set up k3b. It complains about a missing mp3 decoder. Following this solution, I set up yum to use the livna repository and then found I actually needed the rpmfusion repo, so set that up as well. Now when I run "yum install k3b-extras-nonfree", I end up with a transaction error: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/lib64/libfaad.so.2.0.0 from install of faad2-libs-1:2.7-1.fc11.x86_64 conflicts with file from package libfaad2-1:2.7-16.fc12.x86_64

Any idea why the repo is trying to install faad2-libs x86_64 1:2.7-1.fc11 rpmfusion-free when all the other objects are correctly shown as fc12 and how do I get around this without breaking something which is already installed?

Fedora :: Rpmfusion Nvidia Driver Results In Unusable Display?

5) rebootedI did not yum remove the nouveau driver,.... didn't seem necessary. My desktop will run for a while but inevitably starts flashing uncontrollably. I can't even ssh to it to run init 3 to kill X (I can ssh to it but for some reason I can't su to root to kill X).

Fedora Installation :: Completely Remove RPMfusion Nvidia Driver?

Aug 14, 2010

The driver has crashed X and before I had a chance to find RPMfusion instructions on dealing with initrd, I removed the package just to keep X running.Uninstalling the package does not restore kernel and Xorg operation. I am still in VESA mode.Although they claim they don't put stuff in non-standard places and use RPM, still there is something left over, as nuoveau driver no longer loads. Now that system configuration is all over the place, it is not clear what they actually changed or replaced.

Fedora :: FC12 Kernel 21-168. No Nvidia Driver Available?

Sep 27, 2010

Having just updated various files including the kernel using Package Manager I no longer seem to have the correct version of the Nvidia graphics driver. On previous updates this has been done automatically by the "kmod Nvidia" Metapackage. My last kernel was 2.6.32.19-163 fc12.i686.PAE and the Nvidia driver for that did get downloaded correctly. Looking on Yumex I cannot see a driver for this latest kernel listed.

Fedora Hardware :: Nvidia Drivers From RPMfusion Working But Slow In F14?

Nov 3, 2010

After upgrading from Fedora 13 to 14 via preupgrade (works well), the nvidia drivers for my "nVidia Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2)" (it's a ThinkPad T410S) work - including 3D, but every thing paints slowly. The Desktop Effects work, but everything visual (menus painting, dragging windows, etc.) are all noticeably slow (and worked fine in F13).

Update - apparently this issue is related to the GTK theme in use. The default (Fedora, or Clearlooks, or a few others) results in this slow behaviour. Other themes, like Nodoka and a few others perform fine.

Fedora Hardware :: Installing Driver For GT 330M From RPMFusion

Oct 23, 2010

I am wondering if there is someone who have succeeded in installing the driver for nVidia GT 330M from RPMFusion in Fedora 13.

I followed the instructions here [url], namely,

1. recreate the initrd manually

2.yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE

It didn't work. I also tried the method mentioned at the section 'Troubleshooting', but it did not either.

The trouble I encountered after rebooting is : The progress bar changed from an icon at the center to three lines at bottom. After the three lines reached at the end, the whole screen just went to blank.

I am guessing that the three lines, instead of the icon, only shows if your video card is not so powerful. And In my case, the reason could be the driver didn't work properly.

Fedora Hardware :: Nvidia FX 3800 Not Recognized In FC12?

Jan 7, 2010

I have been having an unusually fraught time trying to installing Linux on a new box (Dell Precision 5500, Nvidia FX 3800 graphics), x64_86. After following Leigh123Linux's recommended method for disabling Nouveau, I was able to verify that the nvidia module was loaded, Nouveau was not, but the system nevertheless hung at boot. As a last resort I downgraded the graphics card, replacing the FX3800 with an FX1800, et voila!, the drivers found the card and all was it should be, with no changes to the system configuration. This is a bit mysterious as the FX 3800 is purportedly a supported card. The only sign that anything may have been amiss during the installation was the missing firmware warnings:

W: Possible missing firmware aic94xx-seq.fw for module aic94xx.ko
W: Possible missing firmware ql8100_fw.bin for module qla2xxx.ko

However, it's not clear that this is of any consequence. For now, my FX 3800 is back in its anti-static bag for the foreseeable future..

Fedora Hardware :: Fc12 - How To Get OpenCL Working On Nvidia

p.s=> OpenCL is NOT OpenGL! OpenCL is for using GPU computing.

Red Hat / Fedora :: FC12 Fails To Start After Installing Kmod-nvidia

Jan 23, 2010

After installing nvidia drivers (sudo yum install kmod-nvidia), Fedora12 (kernel 2.6.31.12/5) fails to start. To be more exact, it show the 'loading screen', and then the screen gets all scrambled. Trying to switch the ttys doesn't work either (though I can boot in runlevel 3).

I know that there might be some conflicts with nouveu, but i followed the steps from 'Fedora Nvidia Driver Install Guide' (not allowed to post URLs), so I guess nouveu isn't exactly my problem(?).

Another puzzling thing about this, is that I can boot and use FC12 from VMware. No problems there. I also tried removing/reinstalling the kmod-nvidia (and everything else nvidia related), but the problem persists.

Specs: Intel core2duo t7300, nvidia 8600m gs, 2gb ram.

PS tried nvidia installer previously, and problem was the same, so I reinstalled FC12 at that time.

Fedora :: Get The VBox Video Driver To Work In FC12?

Feb 28, 2010

Host: CentOS 5.4 x32
Guest: FC12 x32
Virtual machine: Virtual Box (VBox) 3.1.4

The 640 x 480 video display on my FC12 guest is driving me nuts! The VBox Guest Additions are installed. How do I get FC12 to recognize the VBox video driver?

Extra information:

Auto resize works great on my Windows guests. On FC12, I just get a lot of extra white space.

FC12's installer does not detect a video card. You have to use the stand display option (second one down) to get FC12 to go into a full graphical installer. If you use the regular install, hoping to do a graphical install, FC 12 only install the bare basics. No video support. You get what looks like a rescue cd. No Gnone, no X etc.

I do believe that FC12 has no idea that the VBox's fake video adapter even exists.

Fedora :: Error While Installing Wireless Driver Using Make In FC12

Mar 17, 2010

The relevant details of my setup are:
Samsung R522 laptop
Realtek RTL8192E wireless network controller (PCI)
Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686 (automatically updated using software update)

My problem is that my wireless card has never worked - basically there aren't any widely available linux drivers, and there are many threads on getting the RTL8192E to work on many different forums, e.g. here, but none specifically for Fedora, so I think that this thread could potentially guide many more users. FYI, my hardwired network connection works perfectly.

Fantastically however, by emailing Realtek support, they'll send you their Linux driver, which most people have claimed works perfectly (although why they haven't just put it on their website is beyond me). SO, I've got a Linux driver for my wireless card. When Realtek emailed me to send me the driver, they said to just 'cd' into the driver directory, then do

su
make clean
make
make install
reboot
./wlan0up or ./wlan1up

OK, so I tried to do this and get the following error:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2

I don't know enough about linux to understand this error. I really don't want to have to recompile my kernel, and I hope there is some way to install this driver with not too much hassle. How to overcome this error, and install my wireless driver so I can get wireless network access on my Fedora 12 operating system. I've found Fedora 12 really easy to use so far, but this is proving quite hard!

This is the output of 'ls -lh' in the folder which seems to be causing the error, namely /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686/
