Mar 25, 2011My dad is out of town for a while, so I've been using his computer to rip my DVDs with Handbrake. He has Windows Vista installed, so I did a full installation of Fedora 13 on a thumb drive and just run everything off of that. However, when I went to delete some of the encoded videos after I had moved them to my computer, I got a system error that said 'can't delete files: I/O error.' Now, if I try to boot up Windows, his computer is stuck on a black screen checking a bunch of dlls. He'll be back in a couple of weeks, so I'd like to have it fixed by then.

Sep 10, 2009When logged in as my standard user in Fedora 11 gnome desktop the installed ntfs-config tool will not open and gives an error which says this; "no authentication program found", and to run that ntfs-config as the root in a terminal. So then the only way to open that tool is to type that in a terminal, and it did open, but how can I fix this ? Can this issue be related to ownership and permissions of it ? Also the num lock does not come on during boot up, is there a easy fix for that too ? This is a recent fresh updated install from the DVD with the ext4 file system. All the ntfs-3g applications are installed as default, so I just added that enable ntfs write support tool with the package manager.

Jul 5, 2011when I connect my iphone (3GS, 4.3.3) to Fedora 15 it gives me this error: Unable to mount iphone
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus). The weird thing: after looking in var/log/messages it appears that it is trying to be used by NetworkManager. And when I lookin NM, i can see iPhone as an ethernet device (cable unplugged).

Nov 12, 2009I was noticed the below error message when I was installing the SKYPE linux version downloaded from the official web site of SKYPE. Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.

Mar 1, 2010This, in conjunction with the "If nouveau refuses to die try" instructions, has now apparently basically trashed my fresh Fedora 12 x64 installation, which I had just set up. Another couple of hours gone to waste. I installed the package that Nokia offers as leigh123linux's build instructions last rpmbuild command persistently gave errors, restarted and was left with Nouveau showing some cryptic error message and finally being presented with only the console. Then I did the "if nouveau refuses to die try" part, foolishly figuring the nVidia driver might take over. Now I am left with watching Fedora's legacy boot animation (the loading bar) and then but one USB error message, nothing else. Looks like I'll be stuck with W7 for another while.

Jul 9, 2010I'm new to Fedora 13, although 10 years ago I fooled around a little with Red Hat 4.2 and Mandrake 7. I'm trying to install flash on my desktop. The install went as smooth as can be on my laptop, but the desktop isn't going well. First of all, My system is an AMD Phenom 9950 Quad Core in an Asus M4N78 PRO motherboard with 4 Gb of RAM, although Gnome reports it as 3.8 Gb. Video is Invidia GeForce 5500.
The Flash install goes ok until I enter the command:
"yum install flash-plugin nspluginwrapper.x86_64
nspluginwrapper.i686 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686
libcurl.i686"
Once that command starts running it pops out this error message:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
I've tried the work arounds suggested by the error message and they didn't work. I tried downloading the missing file and it seems to not exist. I also tried this command:
yum downgrade glibc-common-2.12-3.x86_64
That generated this output:

Jul 8, 2011I am trying to use Wireshark and on startup the program pops up a window saying:
Couldn't run /usr/sbin/dumpcap in child process: Permission denied
Are you member of 'wireshark' group? Try running 'usermod -a -G wireshark <username>' as root.
I ran the usermod command to add my account in the group and checked it

but the same error message pops up.

Jun 1, 2011I have got centos 5.3 running on my system. I have installed vsftpd and created a separate folder to upload files (upload folder created in/var/ftp/pub). From my client end I can download ftp files but when I try to upload files from my client I get a error message 550: permission denied. The upload folder has full permission ie 777. Checked the ftp config file everything looks ok.
