View 2 RepliesI am transferring the contents of my home directory from one computer (KDE 3.5 - openSUSE 11.2) to a new one (KDE 4.6 release 6 - openSUSE 11.4). Since I do not want to transfer all the residual components, I have been doing it in separate chunks. I have successfully transferred all my e-mails from Kmail but cannot find the Address Book file to transfer. Please can someone point to where it is stored.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some time Ihave copied my email folders in .mbox format to files which I then can save to cd. Unfortunately, these files are one (very) large concatenation of email text+attachments which are very inconvenient when searching for a lost email. Question:how to backup emails from within Kmail? And, yes, I did read the Kmail manual cover-to-cover and found nothing relevant.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have machine that I used to VNC to on my network with Remote Desktop Viewer from my Fedora 12. When I first connected I checked the checkbox that I wanted to store the pw. Now the pw on the other machine has changed but Remote Desktop Viewer does not ask for a new password, it just gives me a black screen, like I am connected but I can't see anything. I'd like to know if anyone knows where this pw data is stored on the system so I can start fresh. I already tried uninstalling Remote Desktop Viewer and installing it again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using kmail on opensuse (11.2) for about 3 months with few issues. I usually launch using alt+F2, type "kma" and it appears top of the list. I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there

View 1 Replies View RelatedNo email attachments open in KMAIL. "SAVE TO" and then running the application is required. It would be nice just to "OPEN" or just to "OPEN WITH", but neither work. There are no error messages in the log or in KDE that I can tell. This is a weird environment. KDE was initially chosen for its simplicity, but when they went "fancy" I moved to Gnome as it appeared simpler. Perhaps all the necessary KDE packages are not loaded. This is a new system with a clean install of FC12. Is it not kosher to run kmail inside gdm? View 2 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday Kmail has started downloading ALL ,messages, not just the new ones, from the server. It is a real pain as the mail check takes about twenty minutes and Kmail usually freezes afterwards. Then I have to close it down and after restart it downloads several thousand messages all over again. This has only started happening since yesterdays Fedora update, which I think was anything to do with Kmail?
I am using Fedora 14.
EDIT: I have just notice it is not downloading ALL messages, just the read ones. The new messages are being left on the server but the old ones are downloaded and flagged as new. So it seems as if something has got flipped around somewhere?
Yesterday I tried to use KMail with my hotmail account. First mistake I made was not to check "Leave fetched messages on the server". The obvious result of that was that I had empty hotmail (web) account. I've found this but its for Thunderbird to upload your messages back on to the server. If I can put all my messages back into hotmail server that would be great. Since I do use web account as well. KMail is only on my home PC.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's a good one. Using KMail when I open a new message and click on 'Select' it doesn't seem to be giving me all of my contacts from KAddresbook. Just ones I have sent mail to. That's under the all contacts tab. If I try to select default address book it shows nothing.

The server said: "[SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user."
The password is definitely right. What is going on?
I have two identical machines. I updated one (yum update), and now I can't view the display when it boots up; however, I can ssh into it. I'm pretty sure it's a resolution display issue on a KVM connected to the machines.
Years ago, I could view and change the default resolution in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Now, it appears that information has been moved to another location.
My xorg.conf on the working and non-working machines is the same:
Code:
Nothing is mentioned about a resolution setting. Everything I google says to modify this file. Does anyone know where the default resolution settings are stored these days?
Just installed KDE4.4 from a Fedora 12 Gnome installation and can't see anything when I right click on the desktop, no cashew either.

I thought this would be possible with (and was part of the point of) KDE4's activities. Is it?
I used to be able to right click the desktop and then there would be an option to change themes. After I updated KDE that is now gone Does anyone know how to change KDE themes now?
View 1 Replies View RelatedEver since I have upgraded form fc 11 to 14, I cannot login using the KDE desktop, I am forced to use gnome. The problem with that is that KDE apps are not running well, slow and often crashing, when I try to use them under gnome.
Symptoms.
1. Attempting to log in as any user with either KDE or KDE failsafe selected brings up the KDE splash screen, the hard drive icon, and occasionally the wrench icon.. a long pause and then back to the login screen.
2. I have these problem described in other Linux forums and have attempted to implement their recommendations
2.1 Deleted the .kde and other directories associated with KDE, reinstalled KDE.
2.2 Checked the permissions on all the requisite files and directories to ensure that they were good.
2.4 Looked through endless log files for ANY clues.. none
3. KDE applications, like ocular, take about a minute to start up, respond very slowly and eventually stop responding. Gnome applications work normally.
I am using Fedora 12 with KDE4 and when I logged in to my KDE desktop for the first time, the screen resolution was 2048x1536, which was unusable for me. Therefore I set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 through the System Settings > Display in KDE4. However, whenever I log out and back in, the resolution falls back to 2048x1536. When I go to System Settings > Display to set it right, as soon as I click the Display button in System Settings, before changing any resolution, the screen falls back to the 1280x1024 setting
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded the Fedora11 LiveCD and booted it......it boots, but when it starts to load KDE, it takes a very long time, and it never ends. It just keeps on reading from the CD-ROM drive. I can see the GUI is loading, but the loading time is so long that the mouse sometimes freezes. My Config is 512MB of RAM and 2 IDE Hard Disks. Also note that I verified the image with SHA256, and even burnt the CD at two different speeds, one at 48X and the other at 16X. Still nothing. There has also been severe kernel panics on EXT4.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using F11 KDE 4.3** and I'm getting display errors in Firefox 3.5's widgets when I set Gtk apps' themes to match KDE's by using the Gtk-Qt theme engine. Has anyone else experienced this issue (detailed in the following screenshot)
As you can clearly see things look like crap. Any way to make things less crappy?
fedora 13, Gnome, with the exception of Kdenlive... I need to change to match my gnome theme... I work in a dark environment so I use a dark theme... nearly impossible to use kdenlive as is...
If I remember correctly there was a utility in KDE to make gnome apps look nice, but can't find anything like that for gnome, can't find kcontrol in safe repos for some reason, maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing
I just installed Fedora 13 and though I'd give kde4.4 a try and see how it is. So far I'm liking it however I've got a couple problems with kde.
First off, I cant enable desktop effects (I don't seem to be only one with the problem, though I havn't found a fix yet).
Secondly, when I mouse-over an item on the panel, a piece of a window on the opposite side of the screen from the panel 'vanishes'. This isn't very easy to explain so I've attached a screenshot. My mouse is over the clock on the top right. I had this bug on an earlier version of kde4 some time ago, hoped it was fixed .
The nvidia drivers are installed (from rpmfusion), working (I can play games and glxinfo reports direct rendering etc) and don't throw any errors - the composite extension is loaded.

I've also attached the Xorg log and the xorg.conf file.
I just installed Fedora 13 with KDE4 and my screen flickers! I have already read section 5.1 of [URL] but am unsure about how to carry out the suggestions. For instance how do I add "nomodeset" as a kernel parameter? I do not even know whether this is the proper solution.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Fedora 13 with KDE4 the 'run command' dialog box (ALT-F2) crashes pretty often. Sometimes it just hangs for several seconds. I'm running a pretty standard from DVD setup here with only the NetworkManager and knetworkmanager updated from the Updates repository. It's company policy that we try to stick to the DVD as much as possible without any updates, it helps us to keep our laptops in a well-defined state and avoid conversations like "why is package abc on laptop a version 1.512.5501a5 but 1.512.5502b1 on laptop b?".The question is simple:Does anyone know what KDE package that run command dialog box is part of? I'd like to update only that one particular package to get this problem solved, updating the entire system is not an option.
