Jun 25, 2010I have Fedora 10. Does Fedora 10 include KDE? If so, I do I use KDE? I would like to use Kmail instead of Evolution.

View 1 RepliesJust installed Kubuntu 10.10, configuring it now. The problem is, that I would like to use KMail, but I've got to import the settings, mailbox etc. I made a backup through Evolution, wich ended up as a .tar.gz. I tried to open it though the KMail backup program. But it just won't load the mails or lettings. It just doesn't work. I tried Evolution 1.x backup end Evolution 2.x backup. Both didn't work.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmaybe a dumb question but can you unistall the Email program that comes with Ubuntu, evolution and install KDE's Kmail?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. I have been using kmail on opensuse (11.2) for about 3 months with few issues. I usually launch using alt+F2, type "kma" and it appears top of the list. I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there

View 2 Replies View RelatedNo email attachments open in KMAIL. "SAVE TO" and then running the application is required. It would be nice just to "OPEN" or just to "OPEN WITH", but neither work. There are no error messages in the log or in KDE that I can tell. This is a weird environment. KDE was initially chosen for its simplicity, but when they went "fancy" I moved to Gnome as it appeared simpler. Perhaps all the necessary KDE packages are not loaded. This is a new system with a clean install of FC12. Is it not kosher to run kmail inside gdm? View 2 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday Kmail has started downloading ALL ,messages, not just the new ones, from the server. It is a real pain as the mail check takes about twenty minutes and Kmail usually freezes afterwards. Then I have to close it down and after restart it downloads several thousand messages all over again. This has only started happening since yesterdays Fedora update, which I think was anything to do with Kmail?
I am using Fedora 14.
EDIT: I have just notice it is not downloading ALL messages, just the read ones. The new messages are being left on the server but the old ones are downloaded and flagged as new. So it seems as if something has got flipped around somewhere?
Yesterday I tried to use KMail with my hotmail account. First mistake I made was not to check "Leave fetched messages on the server". The obvious result of that was that I had empty hotmail (web) account. I've found this but its for Thunderbird to upload your messages back on to the server. If I can put all my messages back into hotmail server that would be great. Since I do use web account as well. KMail is only on my home PC.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's a good one. Using KMail when I open a new message and click on 'Select' it doesn't seem to be giving me all of my contacts from KAddresbook. Just ones I have sent mail to. That's under the all contacts tab. If I try to select default address book it shows nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying to set up my Yahoo account on KMail. After entering all the correct (as far as I know) server settings, ports, etc. and trying to check my mail from KMail, I get the following message.
Could not login to pop.mail.yahoo.com. The password may be wrong.
The server said: "[SYS/PERM] pop not allowed for user."
The password is definitely right. What is going on?
I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.
An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.
i tried to update my evolution from 2.30.? to 2.32.1 usning
ppa
ppa:julenlanda/evolution
Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.
it asks me if I want to repair the catalog, i say yes.
In all previous versions of KDE I had Console8x16 set as KDE font for all cases (Settings->Appearance->Fonts). After tonight upgrade, this (only!) font is not working. I can see it in font manager, I can set it in ...Appearance->Fonts, but actually remains default font. Two of about 30 attempts somehow (can not reproduce) succeeded to set "console 12" font, but it disappeared after restart.
1. What can be the problem in 4.4?
2. In /usr/share/fonts tere are 3 files named console8x16.pcf, console8x8.pcf and console9x15.pcf, but in the font list in Appearance->Fonts I can see only 2 - one named "Console" (seems to be 8x16 and "console" (8x8). File 9x15 does not appear at all. Why?
Last results of attempts: cannot use console font in part of areas, while part works OK. For example: kdevelop editor, kmail message body text works OK. But kmail other parts - does not. The most interesting is that although setting the kmail body message text to console displays the message body text correctly (with console font), but the example message in "Configure kmail" dialogue "The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog" is displayed in the default font, as if there is no console font!
I moved all my files in my home directory to a new computer. This old machine is Ubuntu 9.10 and the new one is Ubuntu 10.10. These files included my original ".evolution" directory. But on the new computer, when I run Evolution, it seems to ignore or not understand this directory, and wants me to set up all new accounts. There is a lot of email saved locally in that ".evolution" directory I need to keep. How can I get this newer version of Evolution to use those old files?
View 14 Replies View Relatedi finally tried to use a mail client other than gmail, and can't figure out how to Bcc someone. Evolution has a CC field, but i don't see how to make a Bcc field. Thunderbird doesn't show either one. Anyone know how to do this? Btw, it took me about 2 or 4 minutes to setup Evolution, but Thunderbird just asked for my email and password, and set itself up in seconds! I guess that i will be using Thunderbird, since it seems that they're not messing around.in thunderbird, once you already have an email address in the "To" field, you can click the "To:" label, and it opens a drop down menu, and then you can select Bcc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is odd - I just installed Fedora 13 onto a clean disk, but I restored some folders from backup to my home directory.
Afterwards I noticed that double clicking on a date on the calendar does not open evolution's calendar. I uninstalled evolution* , removed .evolution folder, and re-installed the 3 pieces.
Still nothing.. I double click a date, it does not pop up.
I see that it's running tho..
# ps ax|grep evo
2240 ? S 0:00 evolution-alarm-notify
21839 ? Sl 0:00 evolution calendar:///?startdate=20100613T210000Z
how to debug and or fix this? PS - nothing in /var/log/messages
Hmm when I click on a date, I see this in .xsession-errors:
(nautilus:18928): Nautilus-GDU-WARNING **: unable to query info: The specified location is not supported

I use Evolution Mail Client everyday on my fedora machine. It has become indispensable somewhat. I am wondering if Evolution can be made to run in the background without the GUI, so it can check mails (IMAP/POP) and post delivery reminders through notify-send. I don't mean evolution-notify-alarm ... I know evolution-notify-alarm runs like that but I think that is limited to calender events and tasks (using data mostly stored locally)
I find that I get notified via notify-send interface only when Evolution GUI is on or minimized. Is there a way to get a real background version of this activity - the GUI can then appear when the Panel Icon is clicked
Last week I performed an update on my laptop running Fedora 14 with "yum update".
The first problem was that while updating, my machine was frozen and after a had reboot I got a kernel panic (#$%*) After adding the new kernel manually that was fixed but after rebooting, I couldn't start my mailer (Evolution) any more.
When I start evolution while running KDE I get this message (tail var/log/messages):
Feb 21 18:03:10 BEL001 NetworkManager[1418]: <info> (wlan0): supplicant connection state: completed -> group handshake

How can I get evolution back to work again on my machine?
PS.After rebooting the login screen has changed and now I can't change anymore to using gnome. It only gives the options to login to KDE or 'custom'. How can I change custom to Gnome?

I am a Fedora 11 user and, being curious of it, I installed openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 8 after saving my previous /home (Fedora 11) in a FAT32 partition. I deleted Fedora, I installed openSUSE, and I copied the .evolution folder from FAT32 to openSUSE home. Inbox and Sent mail were correctly recognized, but not the account data neither the contact list.

I routinely create files of over 12GB so its not a filesystem problem or limit .
Evolution 2.28.3
Is there a way to install the Pidgin IM client without installing the Evolution data server? I'm in F12KDE (spin) and have no need for the evolution server and really don't want it on my machine, but the KDE chat client (Kopete) is very buggy and won't connect to my gmail IM account.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am behind a funny firewall, so that may have something to do with this, but since the problem materialized upon update to F14, I am assuming that this has something to do with it as well.
