The recent yum update (at 17/4/2010 based on my /var/log/yum.log) has broken Tilda from regaining the input focus after application switching. Only "F12" (the key binding I used to popup/hide Tilda) still works. But now after the losing the initial application input focus, it does not able to regaining it back.

under openbox session, tilda's transparency works. Under kde, with kwin, tilda it is also transparent, but if I use openbox as windowmanager in kde4, there is no transparency for tilda. Somebody knows why? (by tilda, I mean the quake like, drop down terminal )

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm hit with a very annoying bug: mouse clicks do not give focus anymore, focus stays trapped and sometimes right clicking the element that last had focus allows the next left click to move focus. I'm running wheezy with kde. Searching the web it I found no solution but it seems my problem is close to what is reported there:e issue: after alt+tab the window decoration changes as if the focus had moved to the new window but it stays trapped in the previous window. Rebooting does not fix the issue.I have nvidia graphics set up with dual screen through the nvidia drivers but this setup has been working good for several months, so I don't think it's related.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently tried using iTunes inside a virtual box with Windows 7 to update my iPhone 3GS which involved handing control of this device to the guest OS.My question is whether it's possible to give that control back to my host system (Lucid).I've tried removing USB support from the virtual box device dropdown but that didn't work.Any thoughts? If all else fails I could likely restore using someone else's computer but I'd prefer not to.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 on two different computers.I have the same problem with both .... when I delete a file on my hard drive or a removable drive I dont get the space back even after I empty the trash.The file is gone and deleted but its as if its only hidden from me seeing it and still sitting on my drive.For example when I have files on a thumb drive and I delete them and try and put new files on there it will tell me I dont have enough disk space even though all files have been deleted, the only way for me to get the disk space back is to format the drive.I have now realized I have the same problem with my hard drives, I delete files but I dont get any space back, eventually I will have a full hard drive but no files on there

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Tilda for a while to execute a quick command and I love it. However I wanted to customize it a little so it looks nicer. I figured out you needed to enter tilda -C and then start configuring.
I did this and changed a couple settings such as size and colors and whatnot. However when I closed out and tried it nothing happened. Confused, I opened it up again and after poking around I saw that the top said Tilda 2 settings. Poking around more I found the keyboard shortcut was for f2 when I usually use f1 for tilda. So I exit out and hit f2. Another tilda came up(one already running) with all the settings I had configured.
Now this wouldn't be too much of a problem but I noticed that the second tilda will not show up unless I open the config screen first. After I do this then I can open both of them up with f1 and f2. It would be extremely inconvenient to have to do this everytime I bootup.
1. Activate window without click missing. This is a show stopper for me as long as there are other choices.

Every time I select the text in KWrite/Kate, then switch to another windows for pasting, the text in KWrite/Kate disappears. I cannot even undo to recover the lost text. I have to close the document without saving, then reopen it.

Also, can I save the position of the terminal in compiz? I don't want to adjust the terminal positions manually after each logging in.
Openoffice.org apparently ignores the window manager altogether for questions of focus. This combined with opening lots of little dialogs and menus is making it almost unusable. (Over at openoffice.org, this has been answered with (essentially) "I use click to focus, so raising on focus is normal, so I'm putting at the lowest possible priority because it has nothing to do with usability.") The problem is that I use focus following the mouse, with click to raise. This is very convenient for copying between two windows and saves me a lot of time and energy, as I have to do this quite often. Current behavior, however, causes Openoffice.org to raise any window you happen to pass over, thus hiding the floating toolbar or dialog box that you were trying to click on. Worse, as the window you brushed by has gained focus, in most cases, the toolbar or dialog disappears entirely. The only solution is to move everything around so as to have a path to get to your toolbar/dialog without touching another window, or to minimize all but one openoffice document. Is there anyway to make Openoffice.org usable with this setting?

I recently got a real fancy unidirectional microphone, but when I go and use it, something strange happens. The mic is a mono mic, but when I record something, it appears to think it's stereo. Instead of having the same thing on both channels, it puts it all in the left channel, and silence on the right channel.
I tried fiddling with alsamixer. In capture (F4), adjusting the "Capture" device has an effect. However, it doesn't do anything useful. Lowering the right channel to zero does nothing, lowering the left channel to zero creates silence, and disabling the right channel creates silence.
In my System>Preferences>Sound (or pavucontrol, or what-have-you), there are "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Duplex" options there, but no "Analog Mono Input" or "Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" options (the latter being ideal).
Something interesting, though, if I do this:

arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 1 -vv -V mono /dev/null
it works correctly and outputs on both channels. But if I do

arecord -r 96000 -D pulse -c 2 -vv -V stereo /dev/null
then it's back to the same behavior. The VU meter on the second command shows the left channel going up and down as I make noise, but the right one always at zero.
The machine does have a crap internal mic built in to the screen bezel. If I do either of the above commands, they both work correctly. The stereo VU shows the same activity for both channels.
The machine is a Eee 1015PED, which has Intel integrated sound. Something probably insignificant is that the mic has a 1/4 inch mono plug, and to get it to plug into the Eee, I needed to get a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adapter. The mic's 1/4 plug is mono (duh) and therefore two-conductor, but the adapter I got is stereo, or three conductor (L, R, GND). I don't know if this is tripping something in hardware to tell it it's stereo or something.
I tried the mic on my desktop, which has a SB Audigy 4 (the non-pro flavor) and that has the "Analog Mono Input" function, so that works fine. Is there some way to turn this stereo input into mono input?
Wife's laptop has AR5001 Wireless Adapter laptop model is Toshiba Satellite A215
Problem : Wireless networking randomly loses connectivity and can not regain connectivity, the only apparent solution is a full power down , this is not even certain to work. The card works under Windows, she hates Windows. (I love her for this) I know it's not faulty hardware , because it will work for days on end under Windows without problems.
Things I've tried : madwifi drivers (any and all versions available) : These increase stability of the signal and seem to delay the inevitable however it still happens. When using these drivers the only option is to unload them modprobe -r then reboot then remove them again and re add them. It makes no sense why this works, and if I don't remove them prior to rebooting it will not work.
ATH5K drivers : These are pretty much junk, results are unpredictable at best, sometimes it will work perfectly for a few hours, sometimes it will not work at all. Nothing is repeatable, I can't seem to force whatever condition is causing this. rfkill does not show the wifi being blocked (hard or soft), unblocking it anyway does nothing, only way to make this work and it's iffy is to fully power down wait 5-10 minutes turn it back on and it MAY decide to work.
Firmware update : Updated the Toshiba BIOS to the latest version of the firmware 2.0 no joy here either. Same issue both sets of drivers.
Tried different distros and kernels : I've tried Mint 9, 10 ,11 ; Ubuntu 10.10, 10.04 , 9.10 and 11.04 (which is currently installed) , Fedora and OpenSUSE. All are giving the same problems. I have also tried a slew of different kernels no joy from any of them (I'm not at the computer with the issue now I will post exactly what kernel versions I've used when I have access to the machine).
Another useful bit of information, the hard switch to disable/enable wifi WILL disable it but turning it back on does absolutely nothing. The hotkey does nothing at all. The bios does not have an option to disable or enable the wireless card.
I will also post the typical lsmod , lspci , iwconfig all that good stuff when I get back to the computer in question. I'm probably just going to buy a PC card for it and give up on that one, but this is driving me insane and I would really like to see it resolved even if I do replace the hardware.
I installed Lucid. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 and to connect my iPod to my laptop's speakers. There was an option in 9.10 in the Sound Options to change the Mic Input into a Line Input. But now unfortunately I can't find it in Lucid have only 2 audio ports in the laptop: Headphone port, Mic port.

I've read, the SCIM input program should start up automatically when loading a program, it doesn't. When I have it loaded I cannot seem to get the input working.
I booted my Fedora 13 live CD on my Dell server, and configured networking and SSHd. On my desktop I logged into the live cd and started copying over a big file (1.5 GB) (i.e. copying from the desktop computer to the server). After copying about half the fil, the download fails with an error message about the filesystem being read-only.I've seen this exact same behavior on both i386 and x86_64 of the same live CD, but don't know why it's happening. I've also had the same issue when copying small files. In /var/log/messages these messages are repeated many times:

KDE has been randomly freezing/stalling when changing window focus, opening, or closing programs. It does not seem to be restricted to any particular programs. If I change focus by clicking in a new window, often, when the system comes out of it's frozen state, the mouse is still in a button down state even though I've released the click.No errors are generated in /var/log/messages or in ~/.xsession-errors.I'm running 11.3 and here's the output of uname -a:

i moved to 10.4 and would like to set a key-binding to the "window key" for "Hide all normal windows and set focus to the desktop". This option was possible in 9.04. No when i go to System > Preferences > Keyboard-Shortcuts and try to change the shortcut to the above function it does not accept the win-key as a shortcut.
