Until a recent update, I had no trouble figuring out how to set my preference that a window would become active when the mouse entered it. Since then, about a month ago, I have been unable to find a means to do that.
View 5 RepliesI'm hit with a very annoying bug: mouse clicks do not give focus anymore, focus stays trapped and sometimes right clicking the element that last had focus allows the next left click to move focus. I'm running wheezy with kde. Searching the web it I found no solution but it seems my problem is close to what is reported there:e issue: after alt+tab the window decoration changes as if the focus had moved to the new window but it stays trapped in the previous window. Rebooting does not fix the issue.I have nvidia graphics set up with dual screen through the nvidia drivers but this setup has been working good for several months, so I don't think it's related.

View 14 Replies View RelatedOpenoffice.org apparently ignores the window manager altogether for questions of focus. This combined with opening lots of little dialogs and menus is making it almost unusable. (Over at openoffice.org, this has been answered with (essentially) "I use click to focus, so raising on focus is normal, so I'm putting at the lowest possible priority because it has nothing to do with usability.") The problem is that I use focus following the mouse, with click to raise. This is very convenient for copying between two windows and saves me a lot of time and energy, as I have to do this quite often. Current behavior, however, causes Openoffice.org to raise any window you happen to pass over, thus hiding the floating toolbar or dialog box that you were trying to click on. Worse, as the window you brushed by has gained focus, in most cases, the toolbar or dialog disappears entirely. The only solution is to move everything around so as to have a path to get to your toolbar/dialog without touching another window, or to minimize all but one openoffice document. Is there anyway to make Openoffice.org usable with this setting?

However, compared to older versions the behaviour of focus-follows-mouse seems to have changed for the worse when using the keyboard to switch applications. In older versions, an app selected using alt-tab or scale or similar keyboard method would get focus, even if the mouse was not over it. Focus follows-mouse behaviour would only happen again if you moved the mouse to a new app. In 11.04, the app selected using alt-tab immediately loses focus if the mouse is not over it. This makes alt-tab kinda useless Is there any way I can fix this behaviour to the pre-11.04 version?

I've seen Dwell Click under accessibility options, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I know that sometimes the GUI control applets have features undisabled that don't really do anything (i.e. WINS) if you don't have the right stuff installed. How do I get mouse over pretty much just simulate clicking the window.

After browsing the internet with Firefox, there appears a peculiar problem: if I move the pointer to a certain area of the screen, I can't click (left, right, middle) nor use mouse wheel. The area can be of variable size, but usually it's small, in the lower part of the screen, it's x dimension greater than y one (a horizontally placed rectangle). The problem doesn't go away when I restart Firefox (obviously it does when I reboot). It obstructs any window under it (I can't even click on the desktop where 'it' is). It's as if there is an invisible window that 'steals' focus when I move the mouse over it. I'm on 11.04, Classic Ubuntu (Gnome 2.3x).
A quick UPDATE: dragging an icon and dropping it on the said area behaves as if I dragged an item and dropped it where it doesn't belong (i.e. it just slowly returns to it's original position). Also, I tried killing it with Force Quit applet, but only my desktop reloaded.
I have what I thought would be a simple issue: I have a Linux server and a bunch of people with Macs on a small business network.I'm trying to set it up so that using AFP, people can access the Linux server and drag and drop files to our test web development server. In each person's home directory there's a sym link to the /var/www/html directory, so that they can easily plop their test files there.I've got the hard part taken care of: AFP works, the Linux server appears on the network, and the Mac users can connect and log in.However, my sym link doesn't show up as a directory inside the Mac Finder...it shows up as an application. I don't know if this is something as simple as a permissions problem or whether I need to do more configuring to get AFP to play nice.

Every time I select the text in KWrite/Kate, then switch to another windows for pasting, the text in KWrite/Kate disappears. I cannot even undo to recover the lost text. Whenever I try to use a bookmark in the Main Menu (under "Places"), I get an error message. For example, if I want to open my Documents folder, the message reads:

Somehow, the default choice, "Open with Open Folder" has been replaced with "Open with digikam", and I cannot access the bookmarks anymore. I think I need to make "Open with Open Folder" the default option when I click on a bookmark, but I don't know how to do it. I tried without success to use alacarte to make the changes.
I have custom built Linux kernel (2.6.31) and also xorg. xorg is using xserver 1.7.3 . I have an application which simulates the mouse and sends mouse move events. When I switch the device on, the system boots and Xorg comes up, I can see X cursor on the system. When I start sending mouse move events from the application, the cursor do not move. If I attach mouse to the device and then move the mouse, from this point onwards the mouse events get detected from the simulation application. I have checked the dmesg log as follows

I have install fedora11 live and the mouse work well when installing.When you reboot the mouse works ok until the welcome screen apears then the mouse stops working and I cannot continue with the postinstall. I have a 1TB usb externalHD that I am installing fedora11 and have partitioned it so that I have 500Gb free for fedora, system is doucore 2.4,4gb RAm, I tryed doing this with three differend mice and connectting the mouse to different usb ports
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to FC14 (64) from FC13 (32) and the mouse middle button (simultaneous left+right button) paste function has stopped working. I tested it with 3 makes/models of different mice and trackballs. For some reason (left+right) mouse returns the same code as the single right-button ('xev' value = 3). This worked in all previous FC and RH distros I've used in the past. Did a default setting get zonked somewhere? System: Toshiba laptop w/ USB mouse.

So i asked for help, and everybody just say install windows. And where is fun in that. If people when ever run into problem with some software on linux just install windows. Linux would never go forward. I m not some great gamer, but i would like to be able to play this game. Probably somebody run into same problem. User can access files in both directories if he connects to the system (with ssh, login, ...).
So if he does "cd /dir/subdir1/link ; ls" he will see both files.
Now, dir1 is shared with samba (but not dir2). What I want is that users connect from Windows with \machinedir1dir2 and see both files.
Is that possible?

The date displayed in my panel is in the American format: Sat Jun 12, but my locale is set to Australian for everything. I have tried switching to different regions (System->Administration->Language Support), but this appears to have no effect on the date format.

"Something happened" to my samba install, and it was working fine, and is still largely working fine, except I cant browse via syn links created with:

I rebooted, (after umount -a, then commenting out the connected usb drives from fstab and turning them off...reboot...turn on drives one by one, uncomment from fstab, mount -a...its a bit of a drag rebooting! Quite a few updates happened (openSuse11.2)...
I can still browse all the samba shares directly but I cant follow a symlink anymore ("you do not have permission to view this file") from the same windows client to any of them if they are linked as above.

I'm having some major issues with "Iceweasel" on Debian 6.0.1 (squeeze). I've done some extensive google searching but can't really find anything on this issue.
Basically, Iceweasel simply won't follow some links. It seems to spin for a second and then remain on the same page. I haven't been able to find any correlation between the type/style of links and whether or not the browser will work correctly or not when the link is clicked. Also, sometimes if I have multiple tabs open, I'll open gmail in a new tab and it will do nothing. If I exit the app and restart with one new tab, it will correctly bring up gmail (does this with other sites too gmail is just an example).
I actually use Chrome for most stuff now but need FF/Iceweasel for PHP debugging (a Zend Studio plugin not available in Chrome).

I've thought about just installing Firefox but seems I have to do it manually and I'm not convinced that it would make a difference as supposedly the code is the same (?). I may just try it anyway as I'm out of ideas.
