View 5 Repliesunder openbox session, tilda's transparency works. Under kde, with kwin, tilda it is also transparent, but if I use openbox as windowmanager in kde4, there is no transparency for tilda. Somebody knows why? (by tilda, I mean the quake like, drop down terminal )

I cannot use my front mic port in KDE on Fedora 14 (Upgraded from Fedora 13if that matters) on Skype.In Gnome I can select "Microphone 2" in sound preferences and it works, but in KDE I see no place to select front mix. I tried KMix and the "Phonon" in System Settings.

Only "F12" (the key binding I used to popup/hide Tilda) still works. But now after the losing the initial application input focus, it does not able to regaining it back.

Actually, I'm not entirely sure its running right now, though it should be.My questions: How do I get Tilda back?I am experimenting with a very spartan system, and I was also wondering how I can invoke common GUI apps from the terminal screen (not running within X) such as xfce settings, control panels, Abiword, Firefox, etc... That is, call them from the pure (non-graphical) terminal and have them come up on the X display next door.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a new HDD like a Storage on my Ubuntu ,it is formated as ext3 and i am able to mount it ,but sometimes while downloading from FTP ,when the session broke Ubuntu crates some ./afternature.mp4 Input/output error ,which i can see on "ls -l" ,and that causes great troubles to me ,because i can not copy or write on that disk another file with the same one which is created like this ,these error are gone only if i format the hdd .
My mounting command is "mount /dev/hdb3 /tmp/hd ext3 rw 0 0" So is that possible to remove these error without formatting the disk . PS:I did a lot of search for that error ,on unix forums also here but i didn`t find a concrete answer ,i found a thread which is for that case but removing with inode is impossible because on ls -l i`m not receiving the inode .
I have been using Tilda for a while to execute a quick command and I love it. However I wanted to customize it a little so it looks nicer. I figured out you needed to enter tilda -C and then start configuring.
I did this and changed a couple settings such as size and colors and whatnot. However when I closed out and tried it nothing happened. Confused, I opened it up again and after poking around I saw that the top said Tilda 2 settings. Poking around more I found the keyboard shortcut was for f2 when I usually use f1 for tilda. So I exit out and hit f2. Another tilda came up(one already running) with all the settings I had configured.
Now this wouldn't be too much of a problem but I noticed that the second tilda will not show up unless I open the config screen first. After I do this then I can open both of them up with f1 and f2. It would be extremely inconvenient to have to do this everytime I bootup.
is it possible (and how) to create keyboard shortcut/binding that would give window-focus back to Tilda terminal? Currently, it is necessary to LMB-click inside Tilda (or at least drag mouse-cursor over Tilda) to resume typing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using BT5 with KDE on my laptop and actually quite like it (KDE that is, liking BT5 goes without saying ) and have managed to disbale most of the eye-candy but couple things remain that I haven't figured out:
1- How do you disable all transition effects (e.g. menus fading away and having shadows)? (I already got all window manager, composition(?) effects disabled and set the overall system to "Low CPU, Very High Resolution".)
2- The "Windows flag" key is mapped to Meta so it can't be assigned as "Open KMenu" - key, I'm not too keen on re-assigning it to F14 or something so the question is, what key combo you got to open the application menu?
3- In XFCE (and other "alternative" DMs), you can have full application menu on right-click when pointer is over the desktop, is that possible to do on KDE?
I am trying to configure Fedora 11 to run on two monitors. However, after hooking the second monitor up, I can not extend the display to it. Hell, in the display options, it doesn't even show that a second monitor is connected. Restarting X does not help either.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a USB CDC device that I want to use in Fedora 13.I have a USB to TTL converter that I want to use to connect a GPS with TTL output to my PC, since this PC does not have a serial port. I am running windows7 Ultimate, Fedora 13 and WinXp. The converter uses an FTDI chip.When I connected the device in windows 7 it showed as a USB device. However using the vendor supplied driver enabled it to be treated it as a COM port and I used a vendor supplied terminal to communicate with the device. The device however behaved abnormally and after a reboot stopped working showing an enumeration error.I switched to Fedora 13, where the device showed as /dev/ttyUSB0. I used stty -F /dev/USB0 ispeed 4800 and then cat /dev/ttyUSB0 to communicate with this device. It worked fine. However after a reboot it started behaving weird.
I used dmesg | grep tty and the output showed the device as being connected and disconnected frequently, although I did not disconnect it.lsusb sometimes showed an entry Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) ICand at other times showed no such device. I thought there was a problem in the hardware.But then i connected the device to WinXP. It showed up as COM3 in the device manager. I changed the speed to 4800 bps and set flow control to XON/XOFF in the property of COM3. In the Hyperterminal application that ships with WinXp I set 8 bit data and no parity bit. It worked flawlessly. I have to make these settings at every reboot.However I want to use it under Linux (fedora 13). My guess is that if i can somehow set the XON/XOFF and 8 bit data, no parity things it would work fine

I am confused where to put the master file and where to put the database zone file. what else should i do to run the dns completely.
