Fedora :: Songs In Amarok Playing Slow?
Jun 13, 2010
I have got Fedora 13 x86_64 with KDE. I installed the Fluendo MP3 Plug-In so I could play songs in Amarok. But the first ~15 seconds of every song are really lagging, the rest of the song sounds fine. I tried to set it to an external MySQL database, but then all my music disappears.

My notebook is using intel core 2 duo T6400 CPU and 2GB Ram, when I am playing MP3 with Amarok and at the same time running Firefox, the computer tends to hang and slow in response to open new website.IS it due to my hardware?

I am running fedora 11 with kde version 4.4 amarok 2.2.2 and xine 2.6. I have xine-lib-extras-freeworld installed from rpm fusion. Amarok will refuse to play mp3 files, however M4A files work just fine.
I initially thought that the xine-lib-extras-nonfree was required for mp3 playback but it seems that my laptop which is f11 kde 4.3 and amarok 2.2.1 does not have this installed and works just fine.
When attempting to play an mp3 in gxine it throws this error: "No demuxer found - stream format not recognised."

I have a problem with Amarok. I did a yum update today (which completed ok) but now I cannot play music from Amarok. Rather, it appears as if it is playing but no sound is coming out of the speakers. Other players (xmms, mplayer, xine) are all working fine. A quick note is that on starting up, there is a message that "Phonon: KDE's multimedia library The audio playback device PulseAudio sound server does not work. falling back to." A google search shows that I may need to configure amarok to output sound using something like Alsa. Which is fine, I have alsa installed:
Code:
[arthur@platypus ~]$ rpm -qa | grep alsa
alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.21-2.fc12.i686
alsa-lib-1.0.21-3.fc12.i686
bluez-alsa-4.58-1.fc12.i686
alsa-utils-1.0.21-2.fc12.i686
[arthur@platypus ~]$
but Amarok only displays pulse audio as the only output device! Whats going on please? Am on Fedora 12, Amarok 2.2.1 with xine backend.

I connect my iPod to the computer, open Amarok, and select the "Copy To -- Local Collection" option. I have over 2,000 songs on my iPod, but only 638 are imported. There is no rhyme or reason to which songs are imported and which are not.
Individually selecting the unimported songs and attempting to copy them is unsuccessful. I have followed the multimedia installation guide to the letter with success.

I am running KDE from the unstable repos and am having an issue with the Amarok included... output of rpm query on amarok
Code:
When I import my music folder into my amarok library I come up ~3000 songs short. When I load the same music folder into songbird 1.4 I am able to see the full library.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to which songs' ID3 tags are not being read properly by Amarok and therefore are not appearing in my collection. I have tried removing my collection and rescanning, removing and re-installing amarok.. removing all amarok related folders from my .kde folders and reinstalling... yet I am still unable to get my full collection read by Amarok..

I'm stuck with the problem of amarok refusing to play songs that have any non-ascii characters in the metadata, which is about 1/3 of my collection.A solution to that problem would be ideal, but if there is a good alternative (like amarok 1.x series) I would probably switch.

For some reason, Rhythmbox will show itself playing a song (the notification in the top right corner) but I hear no sound. I can go to the application itself and see the play slider moving. I can't pause it or anything. if it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself. If I browse to the directory, and right click > Open with Rhythmbox, it works perfectly (although I still can't pause it)
Also, if I jump to another song, and then play the song it was playing silently, it works. Not sure why it does this.
I doubt it's the files themselves because I've been downloading all my songs from one site, and never had an issue in iTunes on a windows PC. It only does this to about 3 songs out of 164. It used to do this to only 2, but now it's doing it to 3 since the past few days when adding more songs.

There is a feature in MS Windows OS that allows users to play the songs on their mobile on the computer via bluetooth, i.e., the users can use the computer speakers as a bluetooth headset. Are there any ways or any software to do the same in GNU/Linux?

For the last few releases, I've remained with Amarok 1.4, but now that I've deemed Amarok 2 stable enough, I've upgrade, however, the lyrics to my songs (which I put in a lot of effort in downloading), are not reflecting. Is there anyway to export lyrics from Amarok 1.4 and import them in Amarok 2?

-Ubuntu 10.04 with MPlayer/Smplayer & VLC installed via the repos. -Installed the Ubuntu Restricted Extras package (everything except flash, extra fonts, & java) & w32codec packgae (medibuntu). -Computer in question is 800mhz Celeron, 256MB RAM & one of those basic Intel Integrated Graphics Chip. I'm having problems playing some video files. When trying to play these files with Smplayer, I get a blue screen but can still hear audio (default video output). After switching the video output to x11(slow), I can now see the picture but it's not playable (some video will show maybe one frame every 2 seconds, some video would play for half-a-second then just freeze). This happens mainly with large files (not 100% accurate, but in general files over 300MB).
Mplayer log gives the "Your system is too slow to play this file" & "Bad alloc:insufficient resources" messages. So I'm guessing this is not a codec problem, but a system resources problem? Is there any option, trick, tweaks, etc. I can use to play these problematic files or is it just not possible because of my system specifications? Is there a way I could tell mplayer to play these files with lower bitrates & resolution? Maybe this could reduce the resources needed to play?

I have just installed Fedora 12 KDE, which is kinda new for me as I have previously worked more in Ubuntu and/or Gnome.I have the MP3 codec from Fluendo and I would like to use it in Amarok to listen to my music. I use the MP3 format because my iPod shuffle does not understand OOG.Does Amarok use Gstreamer out-of-the-box or do I have to change something somewhere so I can install Fluendo and have it picked up? Or do I have to do something else (possibly dirty) to be able to play MP3s?Along the same thread, will this allow me to rip CDs to MP3 format as well?
