Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Transfer Songs And Podcasts To Mtp Player?
Apr 3, 2010I recently installed Amarok v2.3. My Sony Walkman shows up under local collection and I can play songs directly off the Walkman. HOWEVER, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how I am able to transfer songs or podcasts from my laptop to the Walkman (akin to the old system where you'd right-click on the item you wanted to play and select queue to device, or whatever it was).

When I am on Windows and OS X I use iTunes to play my music straight off of my server, no need to copy files over to a local directory. But I have been unable to do this on Kubuntu. Every media player I have used will not add the songs from the server. What iTunes style media player will play songs via an SMB server?

Jun 10, 2010I have very strange problems with all the good audio mp3 players in Ubuntu. Not the bad programs only the good (whcich have good skins and library and so on). Amarok for some reason skips all the music files but only mp3 if I put m3u online radio it works. It doesn't show errors at all just skips the songs. I've never had issues with mp3 files before. The movie player works liek a charm but is too cheap (no library to browse files). Banshee was great and suddenly it stopped working just like the good old Rhythmbox... They appear to be starting in background but don't show nowhere. I cannot install XMMS players too it isn't found on the apt-get server. Also my packages are fully updated.
Reinstalling the programs don't help at all! It must be some major issue with the programs not launching. It's not a single program Banshee, Rhythmbox and I think some other but don't remember the names. Movie player plays all but is too simple. I want something like Winamp with nice library please help. No need for movies just mp3. Exaile works not fine with mp3 but I preffer how Rhytmhbox shows the music library with all the songs not like in seperate folders. I could try song shuffle. But why the other programs don't start what command can show what's happening?

Feb 15, 2010I installed Kubuntu 9.10 one week earlier and installed VLC player in it. But from that day VLC player is playing the video but not the audio. Also Banshee player is not playing any audio in Kubuntu.

Nov 21, 2010audio player of the likes of RyhthmBox, but uses way less CPU? I have an older PC which runs a 667MHz CPU, and 256Mb ram. It's got Ubuntu 10.04, but RhythmBox struggles to play. Using the Top command, RhythmBox consumes 50% CPU, PulseAudio consumes 27%, X11 uses 17%, and the rest is made up of other processes. Total usage when RhythmBox plays is 98-100% CPU.
So, you can see that I really need an audio player that would use half that of RhythmBox for this PC to be effective. The PC will only ever be used as an audio playout system. I've tried Exaile, which consumes 60% CPU, and the sound simple refuses to come through. VLC doesn't even seem to want to know about it. It launches, and that's about it.

Jan 26, 2011I need my Ubuntu box to play an http audio stream on boot. It must heedlessly attempt to reconnect to the audio stream no matter how many network errors I may or may not have.
Currently using VLC on boot with the commands: -loop -http-reconnect
VLC works fine for the first little while, but after a day or two, it doesn't try to reconnect enough to meet my needs.

Jun 26, 2011I'm looking at dumping Rhythmbox for a new player on my netbook. I've tried Banshee which seemed good, apart from being quite sluggish (mono?).
Rhythmbox is now dead development wise I think aswell.
Exaile looks interesting, and I've heard good things about Clementine (although may be sluggish as its qt4)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Set Exaile To Be Default Audio Player?
Apr 26, 2010I've tried everything first I tried with Preferences/Preferred Applications - no result. then File Type Manager from Ubuntu Tweek - nothing... I tried with a few older Exaile versions (from various repo's) - nothing... compiling 0.3.1.1 from source - still nothing. with these I can set every other player to be default player (so, only Exaile refuses to obey). to be more exact, after setting Exaile as default, double-click on any audio file associated with it results with temporary CPU usage increase and than NOTHING :S just don't tell me to use VLC, Audacious, Rhythmbox, Amarok, QL or any other player... I used them all but I NEED Exaile (and not just because it looks beautiful enough with Ambiance to make me completely forget foobar2k... and because it's sooo stubborn ).

Dec 15, 2010Coming from windows one of things I miss the most is a decent video player and an audio player. For audio I use foobar2000 and I continue to do so on ubuntu with wine since I didn't find anything comparable. Video is worse because I can't use the same with wine. On windows I have used The KMPlayer since ages. But on ubuntu I only a few cumbersome players. The built in is very basic. VLC's subtitle/playlist management is very lame in comparison with kmp. Also seeking sucks with wmv's most of the time it jumps backwards when I want to jump forward. Mplayer doesn't even have gui and the frontends aren't too good either.

Feb 26, 2011I used Gpodder to manage my podcast downloads and it works well for my needs. Currently I have been using Rhythmbox to manage the handling of my podcasts in terms of storing and playing. Because I don't have access to radio (I'm in India) I only ever listen to podcasts and I play them randomly throughout the day. My needs are quite simple yet there are a couple of frustrations with Rhythmbox that I'm still looking to improve, so is there an alternative? I've tried Banshee, which isn't much of an improvement on Rhythmbox, and I use Quod Libet for music, so that one is out of the question as I want to keep that exclusively for music, not podcasts. Here are my problems:
- Rhythmbox does not remember whether a track has been played after turning the computer off (or maybe after library has been rescanned). As a consequence I end up hearing the same podcasts. Why does it do this? This is illogical.
- I can't stop Rhythmbox from playing a track that has already been played. This is available in Banshee ('Repeat Off' feature).
- When I remove a track from my library in Rhythmbox (right-hand mouseclick and select 'remove') it is only removed in that session. It comes back when I reboot the computer or rescan the library. Then...
- When I delete a track from my library, it deletes the actual file from my computer. In Foobar I was able to permanently delete the track from my library but not from my computer. Is there a compromise between this issue and the one above?
- In Banshee I cannot change the display of the Browser. It seems to be showing 'Artist' in one window and then 'Album Art', Album. Artist in the window underneath. This is a pointless display for me. Because of the way podcasts are generally labeled the most useful tag to view by is Album.
- In Rhythmbox my favourite display is where the browser displays Album (I can't change it from Artist and Album but I can live with that), and where the library displays Title | Album | Play Count | Date Added. However I can't drag columns like I can in Banshee.
To sum up - I want to permanently delete from the library tracks that have already been played; only play a track once; have the media player remember my preferences after reboot; give priority to Album in the browser; have flexibility in the library to display any column how/where I want. I have tried Banshee and Rhythmbox and need a mix of features that both offer. I'm hoping I've just over-looked some features in either player.
Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Make Audacious Default Audio Player
Mar 2, 2011I really like using Audacious, but Rhythmbox (which isn't as horrible as iTunes, admittedly, but I still don't think much of that style of player) is set up as the default audio player on my laptop. I'm running Lucid Lynx on it. When I go to System > Preferences > Preferred Applications, Audacious doesn't come up in the drop-down menu under the Multimedia tab. Anyone know of any way I can change this from Rhythmbox to Audacious?

Jun 13, 2010I have got Fedora 13 x86_64 with KDE. I installed the Fluendo MP3 Plug-In so I could play songs in Amarok. But the first ~15 seconds of every song are really lagging, the rest of the song sounds fine. I tried to set it to an external MySQL database, but then all my music disappears.

Dec 24, 2010I was wondering if anyone noticed that VLC tends to slowly have audio go out of sync during long video files, like a movie. It's hard to notice at first, but eventually you start to notice the audio moves out of sync with the video.
A quick work around to this problem is that I can always quickly hit pause (the audio tends to play for as long as it is out of sync while the video is paused) then quickly hit play.
I know VLC comes with a feature that allows you to adjust the audio for syncing errors, but I find that a bit redundant as the audio will continuously move out of sync as the movie progresses, and thus would require constant maintenance.
I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there were any solutions for it. This problem seems apparent on my iPod touch 4th gen as well and can be fixed with the same work around, however; the syncing issue does NOT exist on my windows vista PC (note: my ubuntu is on a laptop, not my PC)
Sorry for the walls of text: tl;dr? VLC has audio syncing oddities on my laptop running ubuntu but not on my PC running the dreaded vista. Can I fix it without getting massive migraines as my knowledge of linux is very limited?
Edit: If anyone has a recommendation for a better player that supports various media types, I'd be willing to try it. Open source / freeware.
OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Integrated Audio / Video Podcast Player For OSuse 11.2?
Nov 24, 2010When I was in Win XP I was happy with iTunes; now in OSuse 11.2 it has been difficult to find a functional replacement for it. Banshee donwloads my video and audio podcasts but can't replay them within the program. I have to go manually (Dolphin) to the corresponding folders and replay them using mPlayer, which is not very handy / fiendly. I tried to install Miro, and so far has not worked (see post here)

General :: Media Player - None Of The Downloaded Music And Lists The Songs In Each Album Backwards
Nov 24, 2010Let me begin by saying that I'm a "casual user" of my computer (I'm a retiree who uses her 'machine' for email, looking up mostly useless info, & pretending to be a writer). However, migraines from beating my head on the keyboard in frustration over Windows eccentricities led me straight to Linux. Linux blows windows out of the water, IMO.
Except for Media Players. I have tried every one in Ubuntu's software catalog. Rhythmbox is the only one that works, & it doesn't work correctly. I use my computer as my primary music source, & have saved nearly 200 albums/CDs to it. I transferred my collection to a memory stick, then tried to transfer it to Ubuntu. Rhythmbox 'accepted' most but not all albums, but none of the downloaded music, & lists the songs in each album backwards. When I open an album, sometimes Rhythmbox plays them backwards, sometimes (rarely) 'frontwards', but usually, jumps around, plays a few of the numbers, then stops. Occasionally, it goes through the collection, playing one song from each collection.
I was able to transfer the entire collection to 'Listen' media player, but it doesn't actually play anything, & I never even got that far with any other player. I have a two year-old HP Compaq Presario desktop w/ 500GB, (300 to Ubuntu & the rest to The Dreaded Windows for some stuff I can't run on Linux). I began with running Ubuntu 10.04 on 'wubi', then installed it from a CD I burned from the Ubuntu site. Someone suggested I had screwed something up during downloading, so I got 10.04 on a CD (w/ "Ubuntu for Non-Geeks"), but had the same media player problems. Last month I upgraded to 10.10, but still have the same problems.

Mar 23, 2011I'm trying to diagnose a weird problem ... maybe someone has an idea where to start. I'm having a problem with flash videos. The video part displays as if the fast-forward button is being held down; audio sounds correct.
I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.

what is a smart way of doing it.? i dont mean downloading, because those songs cant be downloaded but can only be listened.
