I just installed fedora 12, and been trying to get mplayer to play my songs, but there was no sound. What are the steps i need to do to remedy this?

I`m using Fedora 11. I just bought a Creative Audigy Soundblaster sound card. It is recognized by the system, but I can`t make it play sound on all channels in xmms or mplayer. The alsa test confirms that all channels are working - I can hear sound from all of them. I have read several posts in other forums about modifying my ./asoundrc, but they just don`t seem to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have trouble with my Fedora 14 on laptop, that I never had on previous Fedora versions (10-13).The SELinux not allow mplayer to play flv files and I cannot convert any files from flv to mp3.I have all codecs installed.Also Totem not works propely.I can shutdown SELinux (but dont want to) but there still remain (already installed) codec, which cant be found (decoder h.264).So its not matter if I shutdown SELinux because I still cant play flv

After updated libflashplayer to 10.1 and installing the 32 bit compatability libraries as described in some other threads, I can no longer use mplayer, ffplay, or vlc to watch flash video.

I have just installed openSUSE 11.3 and was enjoying...untill i cam to know that I could not play songs/ videos..What to do now with Amarok or any other application? they are telling me that mp3 support is not installed do you want to install it ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSUSE 11.2. My sound has an issue, it must be played through PulseAudio. Phonon or whatever the default is kept dropping the ball, so I made PulseAudio the default sound server by doing:
setup-pulseaudio --enable So now, I get something as opposed to nothing. But Amarok still wasn't playing my songs, even after telling it to prefer PulseAudio for all outputs under Settings>Configure Amarok>Playback>Configure. I hit "Test" and the sound played. But it wouldn't play any songs from my music library. So I navigated there in Dolphin, found a song, right-clicked, and decided to Open With every audio program associated with it. Banshee and Mplayer worked. Kaffiene, Totem, and Amarok did not (though I could see that Amarok at least queued it up). What gives?
Can't play on MPlayer, Rythembox nor movie player.
View 2 Replies View Relatedim brand new to kubuntu and ived never used amarok before and its kinda confusing me. i have all my songs imported and they all show up, but they wont play. double clicking them doesnt do anything, though at the bottom right of the amarok window it says "now playing [song title]". ive gotten a few songs to play but not most of them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubunut 9.10, and I plugged my Ipod 5g nano in, and Rythmbox detected the music and played everything. When I was done, I unplugged everything. Okay, so I did this iver a few days, but everynow and then, Ubuntu would freeze when my ipod was plugged in. Now when I unplug my ipod, it dosent detect any songs. But when I plug it into any computer (mac, windows, linux, etc.) itdetects the music and i can play it. But when unplugged, my ipod says no music is detected.

But, whenever we do try this idea the speakers won't play when I plug in the headphones.

I am regular user of windows, but one week ago I installed ubuntu, it was very cool and then I installed opensuse yesterday because I like its kde desktop. But i have problem with wireless, i can see my home wifi, but it doesnt connect. I have same problem in ubuntu, but it was solved when i change passphrase to 40/128 bt from 128 bt, but in opensuse, all i can see is 128 bt or 64/128 ascii. Also I m unable to play mp3 songs in opensuse.

View 5 Replies View RelatedBig issue for me with rhythmbox. If I attempt to open a song in one of my folders it wont automatically play them. It will first add the song to the library. Than I have to manually find it in rhytmbox or double click it again. Hasnt it been the normal behavior in EVERY other music application to play a song by double clicking it once? Is there a way to change this setting in Rhythmbox?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had good working installation of Fedora 12 x86_64 on my desktop, but few days ago, during watch movie in mplayer, sound disappeared. Till today i can't figure out, what happened - no errors displayed, no changes in configuration and no sound (both KDE and Gnome).
I checked soundcard in ubuntu live cd and it works fine. Also on login screen in my current Fedora 12 "beep" plays when i choose user, but after this i have no sounds.
I have up to date system, pulseaudio installed (i tried to remove it, but with no effect - without it also no sound).
Strange thing is, that sound disappeared during normal work, not after update or install anything.
I have an SMB service in my apartment that has all of my media files on it. When I am on Windows and OS X I use iTunes to play my music straight off of my server, no need to copy files over to a local directory. But I have been unable to do this on Kubuntu. Every media player I have used will not add the songs from the server. What iTunes style media player will play songs via an SMB server?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out what in the world is going on with my sound in OpenSuSE. I put in a brand new Audigy chipset soundcard and finally got some sound to come out of the speakers. I used the guide here: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE. to fix the permissions on my sound and am able to get sound-test to play sounds as well as connect to the sound device in my vmware and play sounds. That being said, I have terrible sound quality coming out. There is a lot of static sound like white noise and the volume of the actual sound played is very low compared to the noise. The sounds also distort somewhat.
I have tried the pulse audio change in the tutorial above also and have been searching around google. The only problem that I saw similar was a person who fixed the problem by updating KDE. I don't have KDE, I'm using Afterstep.
For some reason, Rhythmbox will show itself playing a song (the notification in the top right corner) but I hear no sound. I can go to the application itself and see the play slider moving. I can't pause it or anything. if it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself. If I browse to the directory, and right click > Open with Rhythmbox, it works perfectly (although I still can't pause it)
Also, if I jump to another song, and then play the song it was playing silently, it works. Not sure why it does this.
I doubt it's the files themselves because I've been downloading all my songs from one site, and never had an issue in iTunes on a windows PC. It only does this to about 3 songs out of 164. It used to do this to only 2, but now it's doing it to 3 since the past few days when adding more songs.
I made a recent update to my Squeeze system and got this weird problem. mplayer, VLC and firefox (.....) all have sound. But when I try to run Amarok I get nothing. I looked into the Multimedia panel on the KDE4 system settings, and its not showing any devices at all. Previously it used to show HDA Intel etc., etc. Now the entries are completely blank. How do I get KDE to recognize my hardware? Shouldnt it pick things up automatically?
View 3 Replies View RelatedRunning Lucid Lynx. VLC works fine but Xvmc output uses less CPU on my PIII 750 laptop and isn't supported by VLC. I installed Mplayer but I can't play anything from the Mplayer GUI. I get the message "FATAL: Could not initialize video filters (-vf) or video output (-vo)". The interface is all black so I can't see the controls. I installed Gnome Mplayer GUI and now I have different problems. Playing video files, including VOB files from a DVD works fine. Trying to play a DVD with or without menues does not. I followed the instructions at URL.... What could be wrong?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
when I try to export a song from Hydrogen to WAV or MIDI they export, but when I try to listen to the exported file it doesn't show any sound or anything. I have Ubuntu 10.10 with Realtek AC '97 embedded sound card, the sound work perfect in the machine, actually it works perfect on the program itself but in the exporting, it doesn't work, what should I do to fix this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTo put it bluntly, mplayer is unable to correctly play video DVDs. It seems to correctly find the title and everything, but the picture is broken or not displayed at all, with messages like:
a52: CRC check failed!
a52: error at resampling
[mpeg1video @ 0xa8d840]sequence header damaged
[mpeg1video @ 0xa8d840]Missing picture start code
Now, this all is on amd64 Gentoo Linux system. I believe the problem is not in mplayer itself, since the playback also breaks in VLC or when i copy the VOBs via vobcopy and try to play them afterwards.
I use libdvdcss-1.2.10 and libdvdread-4.1.3_p1168 (current stable in Gentoo), and tried previous versions of both libs, but it didn't change a thing.
The DVDs I have tried play fine in regular DVD player or on a Windows laptop. I remember the playback used to work about a year ago and I don't know what to try next.
I am having a constant problem with all media. All songs and video locally will not play smoothly. They are broken usually with no sound. It takes about 10 real time seconds to play one second of a song.Moving on.. using Totem movie player, but I switched to mplayer and am still having the problem. I have looked into the problem and I believe it has to do with the Win32 Codecs plugin. The current plugin running is LibMad0 (whatever you call it)I also have the libmad0-dev pkg installed. This is the default plugin I believe for mplayer, but after extracting the Win32 codec filento /usr/lib/Win32 it did not make a ifference.
