View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to find-out the beats per minute (BPM) for each of the songs in my music collection to put together various playlists and thought it would be as simple as adding that column of information to Rhythmbox or Clementine, but that fields shows-up as blank. Am I doing something wrong or do I need a scanner to add that meta information first? If so, do you fine folks know of a good one out there for a large collection?
EDIT: So, I installed Banshee because I've read it has a BPM scanner; however, it runs insanely slowly. It took from when I last posted this to now to scan my music collection and only has about two dozens songs' BPM computed. Is Banshee supposed to be that slow? Seems useless.
Let me begin by saying that I'm a "casual user" of my computer (I'm a retiree who uses her 'machine' for email, looking up mostly useless info, & pretending to be a writer). However, migraines from beating my head on the keyboard in frustration over Windows eccentricities led me straight to Linux. Linux blows windows out of the water, IMO.
Except for Media Players. I have tried every one in Ubuntu's software catalog. Rhythmbox is the only one that works, & it doesn't work correctly. I use my computer as my primary music source, & have saved nearly 200 albums/CDs to it. I transferred my collection to a memory stick, then tried to transfer it to Ubuntu. Rhythmbox 'accepted' most but not all albums, but none of the downloaded music, & lists the songs in each album backwards. When I open an album, sometimes Rhythmbox plays them backwards, sometimes (rarely) 'frontwards', but usually, jumps around, plays a few of the numbers, then stops. Occasionally, it goes through the collection, playing one song from each collection.
I was able to transfer the entire collection to 'Listen' media player, but it doesn't actually play anything, & I never even got that far with any other player. I have a two year-old HP Compaq Presario desktop w/ 500GB, (300 to Ubuntu & the rest to The Dreaded Windows for some stuff I can't run on Linux). I began with running Ubuntu 10.04 on 'wubi', then installed it from a CD I burned from the Ubuntu site. Someone suggested I had screwed something up during downloading, so I got 10.04 on a CD (w/ "Ubuntu for Non-Geeks"), but had the same media player problems. Last month I upgraded to 10.10, but still have the same problems.
I had my mother purchase an album on the Ubuntu One Music Store in 10.10 for me, since it was kind of a gift from last Christmas. It downloaded fine (albeit with a browse to my Ubuntu One storage account from FF), and it synced fine, but when I go to play any of the songs on my iPod Nano 3G, the progress bar that shows how finished the song is while playing is stuck at 0:00. Anybody know what the problem is?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've used UNIX a bit but i've always hugged windows a lot. I wanted to explore a bit before I started my MSc next term so I thought I'd try it out. A friend recommended fedora, so here I am! The main problem is, my USB wireless doesnt work at all and my router is in the kitchen so I cant really stretch an ethernet cord. I'm posting this via my laptop, so I cant really copy and paste a lot of logs. My device is a Belkin USB F6D4050 v2, comes up in lsusb as 050d:935b! Now I spent all day yesterday trying to get this work, i've read so many tutorials and threads about getting it fixed in the end I had altered so much I got a bit fed up and reinstalled to try again. I am using the drivers off the belkin cd (XP2K/rt2870.inf) so that should be fine.
First of all, I run ndiswrapper -i ../rt2870.inf which works fine, I check with ndiswrapper -l and it says 050d:935b is installed fine. I then do ndiswrapper -m, which adds the alias and makes a conf file. I then do -ma and -mi for the heck of it! Now I tried to do modprobe ndiswrapper, and i got an error that the module is not installed. A few searches later I found out that doing depmod -a, fixes this. So modprobe works fine and modinfo ndiswrapper comes up with the info......

Also, I moved the MP3s from the default location and they disappeared from my cloud storage, is it possible to turn this off? With a custom or default location? When does the sync take place? I know its after the purchase but it seems to take a while to start.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently decided that I want to install mplayer on fedora 13. Problem is, everytime I try, a new problem arises. I've tried add/remove software, and it said "package download failed, check internet connection" which doesn't make sense because I'm connected to the internet and my connection is fine. So, then I tried yum install mplayer, that gave me an error.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've searched upon numerous links for a "fix" but they are either for older releases of fedora, or, I was able to make appropriate changes to the F12 KDE4 release such as the F11 how to fix pulseaudio and vlc guide in this forum
Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server, sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway
Here is my sound card: Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Also not to mention, I use to get pop-ups notifying me of pulseaudio device not being to be found and asked to forget this device

I have got Fedora 13 x86_64 with KDE. I installed the Fluendo MP3 Plug-In so I could play songs in Amarok. But the first ~15 seconds of every song are really lagging, the rest of the song sounds fine. I tried to set it to an external MySQL database, but then all my music disappears.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just started using the Ubuntu One Music Store from within Rhythmbox and all was going well until I tried to play a music video. (Search for Daft Punk. Scroll to Videos. Click 'Around the World' and attempt to play.)

"Internet connection is required to access the music store. Please connect and reload."
I could not get rid of this error message by restarting Rhythmbox. I had to unload the Ubuntu One Music Store plugin, and then restart Rhythmbox.
I have an old box, running Ubuntu 10.10. Mostly to be able to use internet and listen to music in my workshop. In the beginning this computer worked just fine. My Acer AL1912 was detected properly and screenresolution was automatically set to 1280x1024. When looking in system=settings=screens the monitor was detected as a Acer 1912. For some reason I brought the computer over to another place and that other monitor (an Eizo) was also properly detected. Resolution changed automatically to 1912x1280.
Now, when I have moved the computer back, all monitor settings are completely lost and I can't seem to be able to change them. I am stuck on 1024x768 and the monitor is detected as "unknown". I have tried to change the values for resolutions in monitor.xml but the values revert to 1024x768 (which look quite fuzzy on my screen. So my short question is: Is there anyway to completely restore the monitor-/screen settings in Ubuntu 10.10 so it will autodetect my monitor properly again?
I just for the first time tried to play audio files on a CentOS 5.3 machine, but I noticed there is no xmms installed, and xmms doesn't seem to be available via yum either.
So, what is the easiest way of listening to mp3 files in CentOS 5.3 these days? Actually, I just want to be able to play music streams from an internet radio station.
