I'm stuck with the problem of amarok refusing to play songs that have any non-ascii characters in the metadata, which is about 1/3 of my collection.A solution to that problem would be ideal, but if there is a good alternative (like amarok 1.x series) I would probably switch.
View 5 Repliesim brand new to kubuntu and ived never used amarok before and its kinda confusing me. i have all my songs imported and they all show up, but they wont play. double clicking them doesnt do anything, though at the bottom right of the amarok window it says "now playing [song title]". ive gotten a few songs to play but not most of them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat command could I use in terminal to delete all ASCII characters? That is, delete a-z, A-Z, 0-9, and all punctuation? I have a file containing Chinese characters, and I want to remove everything else and leave just the Chinese.
I can use grep to leave only the lines that have Chinese in them, but this still leaves a lot of non-Chinese stuff on those lines. Does anyone know how I could actually remove everything that isn't Chinese?
Amarok won't play m4a files for me even though they play fine with Juk, ffplay, moc, Audacious, etc. Up to date current 64. Any thoughts? I can find no option to turn aac on or off in Amarok.

How can I use extended ascii characters, like ALT + 2 + 0 + 0 for instance? I'm using some of those characters for my passwords for online accounts made under MS Windows and it seams I'm unable to use them in Slackware 13. For instance: if I type ALT+2+0+0 in Pidgin there is no character displayed and if I type in the Terminal the same thing, it will replace my shell prompter (sasser@HOSTA:~$) with (arg: 200):

How can I filter ASCII quotes( ' ) and double quotes ( " ) so that I can replace them with the UTF-8 equivalent?If I copy text from a Word Document(ASCII), and upload it to a web page with PHP. The Database(UTF-8) will replace these racters with incorrect character(s).I need some function that will replace these characters but I don't know how to differentiate the ASCII quotes and the UTF-8 Quotes without (somehow) converting the string to hex, then preg_replace'ing the hex code for the symbol.

Suppose user entered ∞ in the text field. I should get ∞ in my log too. However, I got weird characters in return.

I am working on a project where I am dialing out of a modem!! Old stuff, ya, but the modem allows my device send info from remote sites from my datibase through a phone line so that this IT departments dont have to worry my device being a security issue on their networks.
Any way, the modem I'm using isn't incredibly well designed, and when a certain ascii char is read by the modem, it reads it as an EOF indicator. It is also important that the files I send are compressed.
My question is: Does anyone know of a compression format that allows ME to dissallow IT's use of certain ascii chars?
just as an illustration:
Device --------> Modem ---------> Off-site
and the Modem stops talking to the device when a certain char is passed to it.
When I start amarok, it is not playing songs , just skipping the songs through the playlist !
View 9 Replies View RelatedBanshee (Version 1.5.2) doesn't seem to support cover art for tracks that include non ascii characters in any way. All manual methods that work with ascii tracks failed (folder.jpg in album folder, copying appropriately named jpg in ~/.cache/album-art, embedding jpg in mp3 metadata). This is really quite a drawback for users who don't have an English-only music collection. Is there any workaround or bugfix that I missed or do I have to go back to Rhythmbox to have non-English cover art?

But the first ~15 seconds of every song are really lagging, the rest of the song sounds fine. I tried to set it to an external MySQL database, but then all my music disappears.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI connect my iPod to the computer, open Amarok, and select the "Copy To -- Local Collection" option. I have over 2,000 songs on my iPod, but only 638 are imported. There is no rhyme or reason to which songs are imported and which are not.
Individually selecting the unimported songs and attempting to copy them is unsuccessful. I have followed the multimedia installation guide to the letter with success.

When I import my music folder into my amarok library I come up ~3000 songs short. When I load the same music folder into songbird 1.4 I am able to see the full library.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to which songs' ID3 tags are not being read properly by Amarok and therefore are not appearing in my collection. I have tried removing my collection and rescanning, removing and re-installing amarok.. removing all amarok related folders from my .kde folders and reinstalling... yet I am still unable to get my full collection read by Amarok..

when I try to play music on amarok it just won't play, it just loads lyrics and then, nothing. on rytmbox everthing works fine but amarok don't work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSUSE 11.2. My sound has an issue, it must be played through PulseAudio. Phonon or whatever the default is kept dropping the ball, so I made PulseAudio the default sound server by doing:
setup-pulseaudio --enable So now, I get something as opposed to nothing. But Amarok still wasn't playing my songs, even after telling it to prefer PulseAudio for all outputs under Settings>Configure Amarok>Playback>Configure. I hit "Test" and the sound played. But it wouldn't play any songs from my music library. So I navigated there in Dolphin, found a song, right-clicked, and decided to Open With every audio program associated with it. Banshee and Mplayer worked. Kaffiene, Totem, and Amarok did not (though I could see that Amarok at least queued it up). What gives?

I recently installed Ubunut 9.10, and I plugged my Ipod 5g nano in, and Rythmbox detected the music and played everything. When I was done, I unplugged everything. Okay, so I did this iver a few days, but everynow and then, Ubuntu would freeze when my ipod was plugged in. Now when I unplug my ipod, it dosent detect any songs. But when I plug it into any computer (mac, windows, linux, etc.) itdetects the music and i can play it. But when unplugged, my ipod says no music is detected.

But, whenever we do try this idea the speakers won't play when I plug in the headphones.

I am regular user of windows, but one week ago I installed ubuntu, it was very cool and then I installed opensuse yesterday because I like its kde desktop. But i have problem with wireless, i can see my home wifi, but it doesnt connect. I have same problem in ubuntu, but it was solved when i change passphrase to 40/128 bt from 128 bt, but in opensuse, all i can see is 128 bt or 64/128 ascii. Also I m unable to play mp3 songs in opensuse.

Than I have to manually find it in rhytmbox or double click it again. Hasnt it been the normal behavior in EVERY other music application to play a song by double clicking it once? When I am on Windows and OS X I use iTunes to play my music straight off of my server, no need to copy files over to a local directory. But I have been unable to do this on Kubuntu. Every media player I have used will not add the songs from the server. What iTunes style media player will play songs via an SMB server?
