Ubuntu Servers :: Perform An Action Before A Service Starts And After A Service Stops
Sep 10, 2010
I am running Server 10. I have a requirement to perform an action before the MySQL service starts, and perform another action after MySQL service stops.
I found the init script for MySQL under /etc/init/mysql.conf. I added my thing to the pre-start script there and works fine.
I am having trouble finding the script that stops the server so I can modify.
i recently install openoffice in fedora 12 and error occured the error is : the action could not be completed because the name org.freedesktop.packagekit was not provided by any .service files. what is link to download latest openoffice for my fedora 12,?my laptop model is asus k50in.
I've installed MongoDB and I want init to start the database with the --journal flag. I'm quite rusty on how init works, but I know it involves the /etc/init and /etc/rc directories.I've found /lib/init/upstart-job and someone in the chat is suggesting that I just edit that bash script, but I can see it's involved with more than half the system service, so I'm a little hesitant to edit it. In fact, I'm pretty sure if I followed that advice I'd really screw up my system and then the person "helping" me would just stop responding.
I want to run 1 instance of x11vnc at boot after gdm starts, itsa remote vnc server that will work without me first loggin in
Im just not sure where or how to start it when computer boots? i can run it on another tty and connect so its all setup but not sure what the "right" was is.
dear, in centos / fedora, I can config to start a permanent vnc session by setting the /etc/sysconfig/vncserver file when the system starts. Is there any similar configuration in opensuse which give me a permanent session?
I performed the first update in 4 months to my Fedora 12 Constantine. I also removed a 'dial-up' package (figured i didnt need it) and the KDE package after the update. Firefox was not getting a connection to the internet at this point. The network view showed the ethernet as inactive. Everything besides Firefox appears to work fine.
I restart machine.
It boots until right after the fedora logo fills up. At this point my dual monitors go to sleep. No response from anything. When I start in interactive mode I hit y for everything. Everything works great until libvirtd, libvirt-guest, and local. After y on all three nothing happens. I can type on the screen but no response. It just sits there. I can boot into text mode and do whatever I want. What can I do? What other information do I need to move forward?
I have looked at the Xorg.0.?? i forget what its called. I am not versed in reading the messages in it. Same for the other logs I looked at.
How I troubleshoot Linux problems: Install Linux -> Problem -> Google -> Run Command -> Didn't work? -> Start Over
I am using centos 5.5 x85_64 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 The server is hanging at start up due to the follwoing error
udevd[746] nss_ldap reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 4 seconds) udevd[746] failed to bind to LDAP ser er ldap://192.168.0.100 cant contact ldap
It fails and then tries again, and again, each time increasing the sleep time. This is happening before network sercvices are started so ther is no way it can connect to ldap. anyone know a way to fix this problem?
Sometime after I upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 I've been having trouble with my wireless network connection. It will usually log on to the network, then disconnect a shortly after. Then try to connect again, usually successfully, then it cuts off again. Then connects again, then disconnects. FWIW, ubuntu 9.10 works on a different machine pretty consistently, so I don't think its a problem with the router.
The desktop search has stopped working in Gnome.I get a message that says 'Search Service not running' with a button that says 'Start Search Service'.When I click the button nothing happens
I'm not really sure what the problem is here, but sshd does seem to start on system boot. tty1 does list "OpenBSD Secure Shell server" at least. Also, # service --status-all; indicates that sshd is running, but if I try and actually ssh into my box, I get a "Connection refused" response.
I am, however able to restart the service manually and everything magically works again. Odd...?
I have a small network of an Ubuntu server 10.4 , Debian server, Win XP, and an ubuntu desktop 10.4. I have configured a DNS server and DHCP server successfully on my ubuntu server, also a slave DNS server on Debian. I recently configured apache2 as part of LAMP on ubuntu server, but when I type my ServerName in the URL of my Win XP browser, I get this response: The webpage "mansour.net" cannot be found DNS error occurred. Server cannot be found. The link may be broken.
I have an A Record in my DNS zone file for mansour.net and have that as my ServerName in apache2 Definition file, but I don't know why it is not working. I am trying to learn to install and configure various servers on ubuntu.
I'm interested in setting up and providing my own DNS services for public use. I have two separate server machines and can easily put an extra NIC card or two in any machine, if required. What would it take to create such a service like ZoneEdit or EveryDNS?
I know I'd probably need to register 2+ static IP addresses thru Comcast and open a whole host of ports on my router. How would I set this up in terms of software? Is BIND the right tool for the job with a control panel in Usermin/Webmin?
I just updated my server, (Ubuntu 8.04) and had to restart. Now I can no longer SSH into my Linux box or access my website from the internet. Apache is running and everything worked fine before the restart.
I am trying to set up a web server, i have put in a hostname. In terminal command: hostname shows 'promisedland, but hostname -F gives me name or service not known. How do I associate hostname properly, I have registered a hostname through DynDNS.I can access the page in my browser so I know it is there, I see the blank "u made it page".I just want to host a web server w/ a directory to my shared files (movies, music etc) that are on my server.
Still a Linux noob here. I downloaded openssh and did a ./configure and a make install. How can I run openssh as a service? When I try /etc/init.d/ssh restart it doesn't work. It's installed in /etc/openssh.
Is there any Print Management service for centralized Print Manager and Print Monitor?
My requirement is a Print Management Server which monitor all the printers in my office and keep tracks of all the the printing operations (IP of the user, Digital copy of the printed documents, date, time...)
I installed CUPS but it's not the solution which I'm looking for.
i just installed frox ftp proxy for my server using apt-get install frox.after i installed it i did 'sudo /ietc/init.d/frox start" and got t this "starting frox:caching ftp proxy server: disabled"
I have a fresh new F13 installation and I am not linux expert, I need to test Fedora for some reasons. When I try to start HTTPD or vncserver services, status display as "This service is being refreshed right now", it keeps like this for a long moment. Closing and reopening services applet, I notice that both services are stopped. I googled about apache, the 1st thing I understood is to search error_log, opened it in gedit, nothing is written in this file.
have a web application that runs fine.Whenever I run jetty manually the application runs ok. This is what I do:sudo java -jar start.jarThe application is located within the webapps directory correctly and the required jar files are within /usr/share/jetty/lib.But when I run jetty as a service:sudo service jetty startThe server starts, but the application does not respond. There is no error in the output. This is very strange, isn't it
I've got a small web hosting service, for some of my friends. Where I want my friends to be able to have dedicated virtual servers just for a simple LAMP and ftp-server.
What I would want to know is how to create the virtual servers in an truly optimal way. Should I use KVM or VirtualBox? How can I make the request to mydomain.org go to one of the virtual servers and the request to anotherdomain.com go to another virtual server?
If the virtual server is the best solution. * How much memory should be sufficient for a simple LAMP/FTP-server? * What would be the most optimal settings for my limited hardware capacity?
all the tutorials i found for ushare and mediatomb shows it installed on desktop and not server. it also requires an account to be logged in. once logged it, you have to run a command to start it up. some questions.
1) is there a way to run either one w/o having to log into an account? so if say i restarted the server, it'll run the programs w/o me having to log in.
2) i would like to specify a directory to share music and movies. is one better than the other? clients that i plan to use are songbird, itunes (maybe), and vlc - maybe xbox 360 and ps3. other client suggestions?
3) other dlna server suggestions? this will be running on ubuntu 10 or 11 desktop or server. but the main thing i'm looking for is what i mentioned in #1.
Im used to Win Server so Im not very familiar with ubuntu server, I want to setup a load balanced service I have three server , one as a load balancer and the other two as my web servers, now my questions is that what are the steps I need to do to setup my cluster, I dont mean the requirements, not the actual detailed configuration.

I have a few problems getting a custom service/daemon to auto-start at boot. I'm running ubuntu 11.04 Server amd64 edition. One of the services is a Teamspeak3 server I'm trying to start. I would like it to start up automatically on boot. ts3 already have a script with start/stop commands so all i have done is make a little script for it to get it to run as the correct user.
this is an error in java not knowing its classpath. IANAP, and could use some help in resolving this.I've followed the instructions available at various sites, and the installation went fine. When I start the service I get the following in the wrapper.log:
Code: root@twin:/etc# service adito console Running Adito...
