Fedora Networking :: Bridged Networking And NetworkManager - No Network Connection Because Network Isn't Managed

Mar 2, 2011

I have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)

But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)

The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.

Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?

I am using FC14

Ubuntu Networking :: Kernel Update Broke The Network Driver

I managed to get my Linksys AE1000 USB wireless adapter to work on Unbuntu 10.04 LTS.but recently I updated the kernel to 2.6.32-26 and when i rebooted I logged on to see my wireless connection was not working.even worse, I can't fn the links i had that showed me how to install it in the first place, its about the fact that the new kernel uses a different usb setup(probably incorrect, let me know it its incorrect). its an issue that the hacked driver isnt compatible with the new kernel release, how can i revert to the older version that it did work on? i'm using a RALinkTech driver [URL]

Networking :: Unable To Configure The Network Card Because The Kernel Device Is Not Present

Jan 28, 2010

I have installed Linux SuSE 10.3 on a PC (Lenovo Thinkstation A58). However, when I start the computer I get the following error message:

"No valid Host_ID or host-name found."

I then use YaST to set up the network. I get the following error message:

"Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device is not present."

The computer has Windows 7 installed and everything seems to work fine. The LED on the Ethernetplug is blinking when using Windows, but not when using Linux. I guess this means that there is no driver for the Ethernet card (Marvell Yukon 88E8057). I have not found any driver for the card and am considering buying a new one. Which PCI card works with SuSE Linux 10.3?

Fedora Hardware :: No Network In Acer Aspire One D250 After Kernel Update / Get That?

Mar 28, 2010

I just installed Fedora 12 x86 in an Acer Aspire One D250. Everything ran smoothly and was detected upon install but unfortunately after all updates were applied to it I ended with a device with no network connection (not even Ethernet).

This appears to be kernel-related because the old kernel (stock) works as expected. The problematic kernel version is (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686).

Is there any known workaround for this? Or am I condemned to run this older kernel until the other one gets fixed?

Another question, in the event a new kernel comes out I'd like to keep to older one as a back up, how can I arrange that?

Fedora Networking :: Connecting Home Network To Work Network

Sep 20, 2010

Currently my office use a Cisco Firewall which will only allow the ANYCONNECT utility to do the vpn connection. I found a Linux utility (OpenConnect) which will do the same thing, but allow me more flexibility with my networking needs. What I ultimately would like to have is to have a switch that I can connect any network device into it and be connected to the office. IE (my IP Work Phone and Computer) Currently I have is a computer with fedora 13 and two network cards eth0 (home network - connected to a router) and eth1 which I would like to connect a switch to. OpenConnect communicates fine and I can see the work network from the Fedora machine. It creates a vpn0 tun/tap device and I don't know how to pass communication to/from the eth1 device.

Do I try to iptables the ports for the phone and services I need on the computer? Or do I build bridge; and If I do what am I bridging. I have tried making a bridge from eth1 to vpn0 which reply's with unsupported device or something like that.Unfortunately my network skills are bit limited and my office says "it can't be done". Their solution is for me to buy a ASA5505 (or something device) and have a static IP. I would have to make it work as my router and even then it will only DHCP 10 ip addresses; which will cause a shortage of IP addresses in the house.

Fedora :: Graphic And Networking After Kernel Upgrade?

Sep 16, 2010

after upgrading to kernel 2.6.34.6 I have two issues which I don't know how to solve. First and more important is an issue with boot process. The boot is ok until it is supposed to switch to gnome desktop. Then suddenly the graphics become a weird line pattern with no discernible features. Only a rectangle which moves upon moving the mouse. This can be resolved by switching to a console, logging in there and killing the gnome-session. (with kill -9) Then, instantly the desktop appears as usual, the background is loaded, the panels come up and all seems well.

I have no clue what causes this. I thought there's a display driver problem but since I can actually get back to the normal graphics state I'm confused. Also glxinfo says:

Code:
[Me@Plato ~]$ glxinfo | grep render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R600 (RV620 95C4) 20090101 TCL DRI2

Secondly the nm-applet doesn't work until restartet. Normally I expect to see an authorization request window, prompting for my passwd to start wireless networking, and the little icon in the panel. Both don't show up until I kill the nm-applet process and restart it. After I do this everything is back to normal and working as expected.

I assume if problem one is solved, two won't be a problem anymore because I expect the password dialog hidden somewhere in the background when the graphics is all garbled..

Edit: Failed to mention thath my graphics card is ATI3470 as shown in the signature...

Fedora Networking :: WPA2 W/ PSK Causing Kernel Panic?

Feb 3, 2009

I'm running Fedora 10 on a HP Compaq 6710b laptop. It is by far the best OS I have ever used and have no complaints, but I seem to be having some trouble with the wireless at work. The office has a single Cisco Aironet 1131 configured for WPA2 using AES with a PSK. The SSID is not broadcast. The mode is B/G mixed. My wireless card is a built-in Intel PRO 3945ABG, the driver is IWL3945 (auto configured during the OS install).

I use the Network Manager to manually add my SSID and select "WPA & WPA2 Personal" on the security tab and enter the PSK in the password field. After a few moments the wireless connects and appears to be working fine. About every 3-5 minutes while using the office network I get the "kernel error" dialog in the bottom right hand corner of my screen and the wireless drops connection. It re connects after about 30 seconds and appears to work fine until the next kernel error.

General :: Debian 686 Kernel Total Networking Failure On IbmX60 But 486 Kernel Works

Feb 11, 2011

The 486 kernel works just fine, and while I have only 1GB of RAM at the moment I hope to have 2GB someday and would like to take advantage of the dual core CPU, so I would like to configure grub to run the 686 kernel by default. For whatever reason, it runs the 486 right now and the 686 fails in a major way: there is no network connectivity at all. It could be plugged into my cable modem router and it shows no wired connections. The fact that one works and the other doesn't puzzles me since I haven't touched either since the install and a few rounds of upgrades.

I should mention I'm newbie but getting better; I managed to install debian on this x60, yet while preserving the factory install rescue & recovery partition and preserving the factory install MBR so that ibm-specific hardware functions (thinkvantage button, etc.) still work. This required me to use dd to copy the first 512 bytes of my debian partition to a file in the windows partition, etc., and modifying the windows bootloader. (I wish I had learned dd long ago--it rocks). I did this because if I ever resell the X60, the fact is most people use MS Windows and having that partition adds a perception of value to some potential buyers; not to mention I paid $ for it (I was young & stupid) so why should I delete it. I also backed up the recovery partition on another drive using dd over NFS in case the hd ever heads south.

Anyway, I've never been comfy with messing with the kernel. I did once recompile a module for ALSA because it had a bug in it for an old Yamaha integrated sound card on an old PIII and the newer version worked [alsa fails on this x60 too but I think I found a post on here that has a solution I will try later]. But I'm clueless as to networking modules, not to mention the correct module is installed already from Intel for this chipset. So what is there to do?

Here's a clue: the ifconfig output is radically different from the 686 and 486 kernels. Looks like hardware is not being detected since eth0 fails to show:

I would show the diff output below if it weren't so long--and not allowed--upon 2 text files, the first holding the output of modprobe -l under the 486 kernel and the second under the 686 kernel.
