Fedora Networking :: Kernel-uname-r Broadcom Error
Jan 5, 2011
You know, I thought I had my Broadcom issues all figured out, I have a simple list of installing the RPM Fusion repos do a yum update and yum install kmod-wl and everything works.However, this time it didn't work. I am installing a new fedora 14 for a friend who is totally fed up with windows and I get this error: (Yes I have searched the internet and Fedora forums for an answer)
[code]...
I have tried the two yum suggestions and they don't work I have tried updating the kernel and have installed kernel-devel-'uname -r' (suggested by another site) I have tried installing broadcom-wl and b43-openfwwf which only knocked out the card entirely

My kernal version is 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686 (2.6.35). I have installed fedora 14. I dont have a wired network connection , so as mentioned in one the threads [URL]... i downloaded the RPM fusion of the driver and followed the steps. This is the first time m installing linux ,i have no idea if my kernel is kmod version. But when tried installing any of those codes provided it gave an err saying NOTHING TO DO. But my network manager doesn't show the wlan. It still says driver firmware missing. When checked the loaded kernel it did have ssb and b4. I did blacklist them. But reappears everytime i check and wl is not loaded.CAN anyone please help me know wat I should do?

In the latest Fedora 11 updates, kernel 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.x86_64 breaks broadcom-wl functionality on my BCM4312 wifi adapter
Code:
$ lspci -v | awk '/Ether|Net/,/^$/'

Subsystem: Dell Device 01f1
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17

and all is well, the modprobe commands can go in /etc/rc.local. BCM43xx *.inf driver for ndiswrapper (32 and 64 bit)here:

Ive just installed Fedora 12 on my laptop (HP Pavilion DV4 1213la- i also have Windows 7) and wifi wasnt working at all (Broadcom BCM4312)So i thought, lets google it!, i pluged it to my router and i had internet working just fine.
After goggling for an hour i found a website where some guy had a problem similar to mine (couldnt connect to internet by WIFI with the same Network Controller BUT on Fedora 11)[URL] and as a response they told him to install the packages using " yum install broadcom-wl wl-kmod "So i did that, it downloaded some stuff (i didnt see what it was :S), but then said something like "No packages available broadcom-wl" and "No packages available wl-kmod"I tought it had done something so i did as the website told me, reboot my computer.
When it turned back on, not only wifi wasnt working but now i cant even connect by cable, i plug it in and nothing happens (not even the little lights from the port)So my question is, is there any way to restore whatever that command did?

Fedora 11 update released today creates a dependency issue in my x86-64 system: Processing Dependency: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64 for package: kmod-wl-2.6.29.5-191.fc11.x86_64-5.10.91.9-3.fc11.1.x86_64 # yum info kernel-uname-r produces "no matching packages to list" the yum info pack tells me kmod-wl is: Metapackage which tracks in wl kernel module for newest kernel so it seems important to have it up to date. What should I do?

I am having issues trying to compile the alsa-linuxtant module and I am getting errors about not being able to find some files and the source needing to be reconfigured. Anyway the developers told me to try compiling on a pristine source to see if I could compile that way. When I went looking at kernel.org I did not find a 2.6.32-5 version. So I did some checking and to see just what version I have.
$ uname -r
2.6.32-5-amd64
$ dpkg --list | grep linux-image
ii linux-image-2.6-amd 64 2.6.32+27 Linux 2.6 for 64-bit PCs (meta-package)
ii linux-image-2.6.26-2-amd64 2.6.26-24 Linux 2.6.26 image on AMD64
ii linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 2.6.32-15 Linux 2.6.32 for 64-bit PCs
So the actual package that is installed is 2.6.32-15 but uname -r reports 2.6.32-5 as the kernel version.

I am an openSuSE user for many years. My current installation is openSuSE 11.2. However, my first was SuSE 6.4 and I have been _constantly_ upgrading since then until reaching the current openSuSE 11.2. The technical issue I have been facing lately is with the kernel version of my current system: although it should be 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop, as this is the one I have chosen via the online update mechanism and the yast2 system boot-loader procedure, grub shows it as preselected, the boot procedure in the end greets me mentioning this very kernel version, _but_ when I issue the command: uname -a in a command prompt, I am informed of using linux kernel version: 2.6.18.2-34-default #1 SMP PREEMPT
I am really quite puzzled, since I _cannot_ find any such vmlinuz file under /boot/ ! Could it be that my system properly runs with the expected kernel version, but uname mistakes it with a different one? Is there a way to determine the actual version of the linux kernel that my system currently runs with? If it's a problem with uname, have you got any suggestions that could potentially shed some light towards the origin/cause of the reported issue?

but:
Code:

Linux version 2.6.27.56-0.1-pae (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.2 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 141291] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2010-12-01 16:57:58 +0100

I have a problem here with my updated kernel. I'm currently using Fedora 14 kernel 2.6.35.9-64, and my wireless card Broadcom BCM4312, which had an issue before with Linux distros, is working fine already, thanks to the kmod-wl software driver. My problem now is this, after updating to kernel 2.6.35.10-72, fedora does not boot, and I noticed that the wireless card is the only thing not activating, compared to the working kernel. And when i looked at the log of the bootup (pressed right arrow key), I saw this:

Do you have to reinstall Nvidea and Broadcom drivers every time the kernel is updated? The new kernel would not even load to where I could get to my desktop. Help?? I could not even sign in with older kernels. Had to use a Puppy CD to edit my Grub menu.lst so I could sign in on the older kernel.

Got up this morning and switched on theLinux Box and started getting wifi connect problems. I could work for about 5 mins then it would start searching and asking me to confirm to connect to my network.After some time NM kept on asking all the time to confirm the network and key.I reset the router and check to see if other PCs were OK and a Windoze & Linux laptops were fine, no problem there so it's not the routerd.I'm wondering if the broadcomm card is starting to fail as it heats up or could it be a corrupt file or parametersNo updates have been done in the last month, it just started today. Here are the results from the log and dmesg:
[root@mylinux ~]# dmesg | grep b43
b43-pci-bridge 0000:05:01.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17

I have a Dell-made, Broadcom-based wireless card, BCM4322. I'm using Broadcom's proprietary drivers from RPM Fusion.
Code:
lspci | grep -i broadcom
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5784M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10)
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)
Since installing F11, I can no longer connect to WEP-secured wireless. When I use automatic IP settings, the connection simply times out. When I specify an IP, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS server, NetworkManager thinks the connection properly established, but any pings time out, even when I don't specify a hostname (just an IP address). I can connect to (and use) unencrypted wireless. I haven't tried other encryption schemes. The WEP index is 1 and it's non-authenticated (open). I've been playing with the settings for over a week now with no success.

I am drowning in Broadcom over here. Fedora 15 with Broadcom 4313 wireless inop. I believe that I have made every attempt to get this Broadcom 4313 off and flying that is posted on this, and many other, forums. I had the wireless working on this laptop yesterday when I made an error with a NVIDIA driver that caused me to be unable to boot. I updated/reinstalled the kernel and the fun began. Here is where things are at. note the broadcom version fc13? No idea why that would be 13.

I can't get my Broadcoam BCM4322 to connect to a protected access point. I've tried the drivers from rpmfusion, and tried to build the module with the source+binary package from Broadcom, all with no luck. The failure seems to happen during the WPA negotiation.
I haven't tried connecting to an unsecured WiFi access point.
When booting this same laptop to Kubuntu 9.04, it can connect to secured, so it is possible under linux.
Here's output from lspci, and the tail of the log while KNetworkManager is trying to connect the device.

I chose to change my operating system from Microsoft Xp to Linux and finally chose Fedora to be my new OS.
After Fedora installation I got a problem that I cannot connect to my wireless network I used to using Xp, I think that my wireless card is not installed on Fedora because when I checked in the network configuration I found that the only installed adapter is the Ethernet Realtek for the wired connection.
My OS is Fedora 11.
The CPU Model name is : Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T8300 @2.40 GHz, so I think that my architecture is x86_64.
My Network controller is : Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
