I'm not sure what changed but when I recently upgraded via yum to Kernel 2.6.34 none of my uPnP or DLNA apps show up on my tvs (Sony TV and PS3). Booting an older version, i.e. 2.6.33 solves the problem with no other changes. I use MediaTomb, MythTV uPNP server and Serviio. All work fine except with the newest kernel.

It even has a great android app. It does a great job automatically organizing all my movie and tv show files. I was though quite disappointed when i found out it didnt have upnp support anymore and therefore would not stream things to my WD TV Live, etc.
I know how to easily setup a dlna server using minidlna or ushare, but neither would automatically refresh my file listings (if you tried a cron, it would interrupt the current stream and of course I would prefer as close to real time updates as possible). It also of course didnt provide any automatic naming/organizing/images of the videos that Plex would do.
Any recommendations on what might be available out there that would provide all the features I mentioned above, but would provide the data in a more standard format like upnp/dlna instead of the proprietary format that Plex offers? I am also open to ideas that would get Plex to work with the WDTV Live.
kernel-2.6.32.10-90.fc12 seems to break 802.11n with my intel 4965 chip on my thinkpad t61p. Anyone else seeing the same thing? iwconfig shows extremely low bit rate. dmesg doesn't show anything at all unusual.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have Lenovo T410 with NVIDIA NVS 3100m running nouveau driver/F13. When I updated to the latest kernel, the display goes blank when booting and remains blank. I can ssh to the machine, so - it appears to be an X/display issue. All else seems to be working normally, and I didn't spot anything of interest in the logs - but perhaps I don't know what to look for.
Also, it appears to be an issue in the kernel package rather than in the nouveau driver package. I can still boot the former kernel successfully - even with the new driver files.
The previous kernel version was the version of the kernel that is provided with the initial F13 install.

I am a complete newbie to linux and Fedora, having previously used Windows/Vista. I have a Netgear router which is configured to allow upnp, and i use deluge as my bittorrent client, though would use either transmission or deluge. I used deluge on windows and upnp worked fine, but now i am usisng fedora with the same settings it doesnt work.
In Deluge (or Transmission) UPnP is ticked and i have limited port range to on port say 57000. In Router config UPnP is ticked. In the Fedora firewall i have gone in and set it up to allow the specified port, say 57000 in other ports.
The firewall in Fedora 12 seems to block UPnP by default, but opening port 1900 for UDP, as I have seen suggestedes not resolve the problem.have the following three scenarios:Firewall Enabled: Transmission cannot open a port by UPnPFirewall Enabled (1900 UDP allowed): Transmission cannot open a port by UPnPFirewall Disabled: Transmission opens a port via UPnP fineAny ideas? On my HP i7 based laptop the latest kernel 2.6.33-147 and possibly Nouveau/X.org seems to have broken suspend. ie If the laptop is suspended then when woke, the screen is dead and networking does not work and I cannot change to a different console.If I boot the previous kernel this behaviour does not occur.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI run an Aspire One 522 with a Broadcom BCM4313-Wlan-Card and Fedora 15. To run the card, I had to install der broadcom-wl-Driver, as described here: [URL]... It worked okay. (Althought not perfect. It crushed everytime the whole system, when it tried to connect to a WLAN-Net, unless I first started the Windows on the computer, then shut it down and restarted Fedora. But maybe thats some strange Dual-Boot-thing.) Anyway. After I updated the Kernel to 2.6.40 it seems to be broken. I deleted the driver, reinstalled it, tried the B43-driver. But no mater what: It seems like the NetworkManager doesn't find the card at all. lsmod shows that a modul "wl" is running. And - as mentioned - I installed the Kernel and the two other packages fresh form the repositories.

Still have the same problem.When I revert back to the previous kernel 2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686, all is well.At this point, wonder what the chances are of this being fixed? Seems the last set of updates before EOL of a release always breaks something critical.

I'm running Virtualbox from the Sun website (need the USB support) and it breaks after each kernel update.The problem is that I installed a lot of Ubuntu systems for transitioning windows users with Windows in virtualbox to ease the migration but I have to rerun vboxdrv setup after each kernel patch.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnother weird one I think. I have two integrated LAN's on the MB. All was OK in Windows and figured I'd do some work in Fedora 13. When I got there I had no internet. I messed around trying to get it working and gave up; went into Ubuntu; same deal. I booted Windows and the same; no network. I tried the other integrated connection and it worked. No way could I get the other nic to work so I tried shutting right down; pulled the plug; waited a few seconds; plugged it back and booted up and it's working again. Now I'm leery about going into Fedora. Anyone else have this problem. I think it happened to me once bofore and I thought my nic had bit the dust and plugged into the other connection?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems that updating the Kernel breaks my installation. I've tried it twice, and both times it disabled my gui desktop. I'm posting this with links2 in my terminal. The terminal works perfectly.
This is really annoying, as I can't even use my computer. What do you think is the problem?
Enabling kernel modesetting on my computer breaks graphics, but Xorg.log and syslog don't tell me much, because they don't log any error.
The symptoms are the following: boot goes on normally, then the KDM login screen is corrupted. On the login screen there is a big square instead of the cursor, and that square does move as I move the mouse. If I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 I'll get a black screen instead of the terminal, and from there I cannot go back to virtual terminal 7 for login. The only thing I can do is to issue sys-requests for read-only remount and reboot.
Where could I start looking for the problem? What does it seem to be related to, Xorg, kernel, radeon driver?
I have just recently switched my setup to have my server be in the middle of traffic and act as my new router while making my other routers just switches. However, after doing this I can no longer access my UPnP devices. They used to show up in my router but I am assuming either there is an issue with my iptables rules or that some how having my server run the dhcp and dns routing is messing with UPnP.

I have an ATI radeon HD 3400 series video card, and the open-source drivers make my computer run really hot. I tried installing FGLRX by using "Check For New Hardware Drivers", but it did not work, so I installed the ATI catalyst 10.5 package from AMD's website, and am using Xserver-xorg-core-1.7.6-2ubuntu7+backclear1 from k0ekk0ek's PPA so there is no lag when minimizing windows and such.
Everything was perfect until the 2.6.32-23 kernel update came along. I let it update, and rebooted, but the ATI driver no longer starts, even when I uninstall and reinstall it.
I am just using the 2.6.32-22 kernel for now, as the 2.6.32-23 kernel still runs hot without the ATI driver enabled. I would like to start using the new kernel at some point...
I just updated my kernel to the latest version (2.6.35-24). Now my suspend function on my Thinkpad SL510 no longer works. The system simply hangs with a solid cursor in the corner of a black screen. USB devices remain powered on, HDD keeps spinning, and all indicator lights remain lit. When this happens, the only thing I can do is hold the power button down for a hard power off.My first thought would be to troubleshoot this with dmesg, but I don't know how to record dmesg after a power off. The message buffer is reset when I reboot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Lucid Lynx on both my machines in the interest of sitting and waiting for the Unity/Gnome 3 storm to blow over. On the HP (see below), everything works great, and I've followed instructions online on how to upgrade to LibreOffice, upgrade the kernel to 2.6.38 using the kernel PPA, etc.
However, on the IBM, I'm using Nvidia proprietary graphics drivers. These work well on the stock kernel that 10.04 installed (2.6.32-32), but installing 2.6.38 seems to break the driver. If I install the driver first, and then the kernel on top, X stops working and I have to revert to the default, generic driver to get back in. Once there, I cannot install the driver again. The Additional Drivers dialog goes through the motions, but then drops a "systemerror: installarchives() failed" error message.
So, is there a different version of the driver I should be trying to install? I should clarify at this point I tried all three options the Additional Drivers dialog provided me, all gave the same result (version 96, version 173, and version current).
Or should I leave the kernel at 2.6.32? Is there any downside to leaving it?
I've recently moved my media center pc from windows 7 to Ubuntu, now while on windows 7. I used the machine with XBMC and utorrent with upnp enabled on my router (Netgear WNR2000 v1) and also in the utorrent client for the port mapping. I was also able to connect to the machine from work via remote desktop (via Windows RDP, real/ultra vnc) using either a windows machine or via ubuntu that I have installed on a laptop (externally to my network). Utorrent also was able to talk to my router and ask for the ports it needed via uPnp or even by setting the port forwarding manually.
Since upgrading ( ) to Ubuntu from windows 7 on my mediacenter pc I've not been able to connect via RDP / VNC using port forwarding from the outside world although I added ports 5900 and (i beleive) 3389 to the port forwarding section in my router and pointing it to the static ip on my mediacenter. I'm also not able to get the ports to forward for deluge / vuze at all, if i manaually set port forwarding up then nothing happens and deluge says it has no incoming connections and it also doesn't talk to my router to ask for ports via upnp.
The same also holds true for the linux version of sopcast which will not connect to any streams. I can also replicate the same issue on a laptop that I use with ubuntu installed. If I watch my upnp page on my router config then I can see that my windows clients (Brother & Mom's macine) both talk to the router and ask it for ports so I assume that the router is working as it should be but obviously the fault happens when my ubuntu )10.04.1) clients ask for any kind of ports. By default is there any kind of firewall installed on ubuntu or anything I need to do to allow it to ask for upnp connections?
I'm trying to use the Banshee remote control application for Android, but there is no option for remote controls in the Banshee application I installed. I used to use Ubuntu and I'm pretty sure I remember it being there. Am I missing a package or something?

I followed this [URL] .... to install backports kernel version. The wireless card worked, however, intel display driver displayed the color in the wrong way.
Red pixels are green, and green are yellow. It was displayed like when someone try to connect a PAL system to a TV that supports only NTSC.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem where the wired network wired network (eth0) disconnects when the connection is idle for a while (usually tens of minutes). It works fine every time I boot up, but eventually it dies, and I can't ping the machine, or ping anything from the machine. ifconfig shows that it still has an IP address. Running ifdown/ifup causes it to work again. I intend for this machine to be a server, so I can't afford to go restart it when I need network access. sudo lshw -class network gives me this:

My problem is as the topic says.
My port 80 seems to be already taken. lighttpd fails to start reporting that it cannot bind to port cause its already taken.
The error message itself:

I am not able to crack this by myself. Ihve tried investigating this by

netstat -ape | grep -v unix
First doesn't show anything second anything abt port 80.
Now hints I can think of. Maybe you have more experience and ideas what I can do and where should I look for the culprit.
I am using debian (unstable) and lighttpd. I even tried rebooting; it says that the port is taken already at the boot sequence (well it starts pretty much at end anyway but the system should be clean).
It seems that it started failing after a major distro update, so maybe there are some conflicts based on ipv6/v4 or something, though I have no idea what it could be. Well my hit for that is the part of error msg "bind to port: :: 80 ". This "::" looks like ipv6 naming convention. Maybe its lighttpd internal.
I was browsing the available packages to install the weather indicator and noticed that a network indicator was available. apt-get said that it needed to install 'connman' and remove 'network-manager' and 'network-manager-gnome' in order to install the network indicator. I foolishly assumed it knew what it was doing so I went ahead and performed the installation/removal and restarted the computer.
Now I cannot connect to the internet. I only have an ethernet card for connection to the internet, no wireless or otherwise. The configuration I use is not DHCP, but a manual settings of address/subnet/gateway and name servers
When I try to set the network values through the network indicator some of them do not stay set. The gateway value appears to be set, but then after closing down the indicator window completely it comes up with the value 'Modified'. The DNS servers is the only other value that does not stay set, but it only changes to be blank. The connection never works.
So, I downloaded 'network-manager' and 'network-manager-gnome' on another computer, transferred the packages by USB, and reinstalled them (uninstalling connman and the network indicator). But the network connection remains broken. At least with 'network-manager-gnome' the values I set stay set, they just don't work anymore. I've tried editing /etc/network/interfaces to previously working values directly, but they do not seem to have any effect either. The connection no longer works.
I really do not care if I use the network indicator or not at this point, I simply want the network connection to work properly.
Edit: I realize I forgot to say that I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 (upgraded from 10.10). The network card is the "Integrated Broadcom 57780 Gigabit Ethernet controller".
Installing the RPM Fusion repositories brakes Yum and PackageKit.
Both stop working until the offending repo files are deleted and I can't download anything from any repository because "yum.py" or something doesn't release the lock and become a zombie
I don't know how to fix this as I tried to edit the repo and put the "failovermethod=priority" in it and it didn't work. I tried to make a repo file from scratch and it didn't work either.
There are no messages on the "Yum log file" I got this:
