I try to install phpbb on localhost but not program the following error message:
cache /: Found, Unwritable
files /: Found, Unwritable
store /: Found, Unwritable
config.php: Found, Unwritable
images / avatars / upload /: Found, Unwritable
Although I did chmod 777 for all.
I installed XAMPP from http://portableapps.com/apps/development/xampp
I'm running XAMPP off my USB thumb drive ( ARAM 8gig )
I have worked out how to get most of sites up and running as in Wordpress + db's
I can't seem to get phpbb going, keeps coming up with an error ( CGI script )with throws me a Error 500
Is there some thing else I need to turn on ?
I've got some trouble while trying to install some applications on my linux system. It is said that the files in my /var/www/html/xxx directory, where I put them, is not writeable. The command chmod 777 xxx has been tried to make it work, but the error remains when I opened the applications again.
To be specific, I want to install phpFreeChat on my system, so I put those files in the /var/www/html/freechat directory, cd there and typed chmod 777 data/private, chmod 777 data/public on bash. Here's the result of list -al data:

When I download phpbb whether it be the zip or the tar.gz it gives me this message /tmp/phpBB-3.0.5.tar.bz2 could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 and am trying to install OpenVPN as per the instructions here:-[URL]..However, when I try enter the following I just get a continuous "string is too long, it needs to be less than 40 bytes long" message.
./pkitool --initca I've had a look around in the forum and in google and can find a reference to this problem with 9.x but from what I can see this has supposedly been fixed for v10.04. Is there some sort of workaround I can apply to get this to work?

I just install Fedora 15 directly to an internal drive. I've installed a few programs using Autoplus, but when I try to run a software update, I get the following error when I try to install the updates:

When I'm booting (FC10) the get the message that my lan cable my be unplugged for my Ethernet connection. Since I'm using my wireless card to connect to the internet, I don't want to see the message every time I boot. So I've been having major problems with Ubuntu, and I've decided to give Fedora a try. But low and behold, I'm having some troubles here too.
The install CD gets past the point where it has the 3 colored bars on the bottom of the screen loading up the system. Then it goes to a screen and prints out some lines (pretty sure its just part of the system booting up). So everything is going fine, then it gets to the following line...

I googled this error, and apparently it can happen sometimes if your HD isn't connected properly or isn't talking with the computer properly. But I know that it is because I currently have a 250g partition with Vista on it that I can access just fine. And also a 250g ubuntu partition on it.
However, when I try to go into the Ubunut installation via grub, it says that it doesn't exist.
So do I need to use gparted or something to reformat that portion of my hard drive? Or is there something else I can do to get that error message to go away?

This happens even when no other service is listening on port 80, as evident from the output of "lsof -i :80" and "netstat -A inet -lnp". This is due to a configuration file mixup. Both /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and /etc/httpd/conf.d/system-config-httpd.conf contain the directive "Listen :80". If you comment out the "Listen 80" in /etc/httpd/conf.d/system-config-httpd.conf, httpd will again start.

I am trying to install centos on two servers. The first a dell power edge p4 2.4 ghz 512 ram, the other is a supermicro with almost the exact specs. I tried to install the centos cd, using roxio to create the disk, (then just for measures tested the cd on my laptop and it loaded just fine into the centos install gui.) But it says media error when I try it on the dell and blue screens the other server. However if I put the windows cd in on both the servers, the windows install goes perfect. Apologies again if this is misplaces but I just joined the site and have had a difficult time trying to find where to post. What I am trying to do in the end is run web servers using apache.

I am trying to install git (among other programs), and I have reach an empass. Nothing I've tried has worked, and I just know there is a simple solution to this that I just don't know. It all started by skipping a dependency in the past (don't remember the package). I figured there would be something to clean that up, so I just continued.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
If I need to, I could go and download the RPM package and install it that way, but I'd like to get YUM back working properly.
Ive just installed Fedora 12 on my laptop (HP Pavilion DV4 1213la- i also have Windows 7) and wifi wasnt working at all (Broadcom BCM4312)So i thought, lets google it!, i pluged it to my router and i had internet working just fine.
After goggling for an hour i found a website where some guy had a problem similar to mine (couldnt connect to internet by WIFI with the same Network Controller BUT on Fedora 11)[URL] and as a response they told him to install the packages using " yum install broadcom-wl wl-kmod "So i did that, it downloaded some stuff (i didnt see what it was :S), but then said something like "No packages available broadcom-wl" and "No packages available wl-kmod"I tought it had done something so i did as the website told me, reboot my computer.
When it turned back on, not only wifi wasnt working but now i cant even connect by cable, i plug it in and nothing happens (not even the little lights from the port)So my question is, is there any way to restore whatever that command did?

The only problem that I am having is that when I try to install vmware tools, by runnning ./vmware-install.pl in the terminal, I am prompted with this message: What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
If I press Enter, the same message pops up. I am fairly new to linux, and I am just setting this up so I can set up a web server on this virtual machine for testing purposes.
