Fedora Networking :: Signals Strong But Broadcom 4318 Very Slow?

Nov 19, 2009

I've got the b43 driver and firmware installed, and the system comes up fine, but the max throughput on the wlan0 is about 100Kb/s. My laptop and iwl do about 2.5Mbps from the same location in the house. The signal is plenty strong:

wlan0
IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"sar2"
Mode: Managed Frequency:2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:23:69:22:5C:00
Bit Rate=36 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=61/70 Signal level=-49 dBm Noise level=-57 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Is this expected from the b43 driver and a bcm4318? I was hoping for much better throughput. Also, I tried the broadcom-wl driver, but it doesn't seem to recognize the card. It looks like it's not supported from their site, only the 4311,12,21,22 were listed, although I see posts where other people claim they are using it with a 4318?

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom 4318 Will Not Connect To Router

Feb 28, 2010

Ok, so spec's on my setup: Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Inspiron 530.. Q6600 w/3GB RAM, 500 GB HD w/radion 2600xt and broadcom wlan NIC. My issue is that the broadcom will not connect to my router. I did some searching, found a link from this site detailing how to get my NIC to work on Intrepid, but that's not what I have. I followed that guide anyway, substituting my driver for his (guide is on sampbar.com) and nothing. It's showing now as not ready. I've installed ndiswrapper and grabbed the drivers for my NIC from my Vista install, but when I use ndiswrapper to do that, I get an error saying it can't tell if the hardware is present, then shows me it is present and it still won't connect.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom 4318 Chipset Not Supported

Dec 22, 2010

Here is what I have as far as hardware goes:
Compaq Presario V2000
- PROCESSOR: Intel Pentium M 710 -- 1.4 GHz
- RAM 2 GB
- HD 80 GIG
- Duel booting XP Pro with Ultimate Edition 2.8 (I understand this is built from Ubuntu 10.10)
- lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 yields the following:

Code:
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)

I have followed to the tee this guidance: [URL]
I tried the installing b43 drivers with internet (using ethernet)
I tried installing off the DVD using the no internet option
I even tried installing the STA drivers even though I know the 4318 chipset is not mentioned as a supported chipset.

All of these were loaded/extracted with no errors via terminal following the guidance to the letter. Now here is a problem I have not read that anyone else has run into. (maybe I just missed it). When I go: System > Administration > Additional Drivers the only additional driver that shows up is "Software Modem". I can't for the life of me figure out why the b43 and STA drivers are not showing up to activate. I can install drivers all day long, if I can't activate them, it really does become a moot point.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Signal Low But Strong In Windows

Jul 7, 2010

My laptop has sat in the same area for days, I've noticed that in Ubuntu I get a real low signal and can barely connect for a minute and on Windows I get like 3/5 bars. I don't understand what's going on. Is it a driver issue or something? My wireless card is Realtek RTL8187B and using the latest Ubuntu as of today. But just so everyone knows, I have google'd and search around for a few hours. I've seen many different types of problems that just wasn't like mine. Lots of people can't even get theirs to work and some people use different types of drivers. But Ubuntu detects my wireless card fine, I'm just having a signal strength problem. Because the Windows on my laptop has a much stronger signal as stated above.

Networking :: Not Seeing Strong Connection To MAC/Physical Addressing And Reasoning?

Jul 24, 2011

Why does a NIC need a permanent individual way to distinguish it? Why not give it the host name in a form that is not a permanent hardwired hardware? Seems that the last ethernet router before reaching your PC is really seeking your NIC. So why is not the expression "What is your NIC Address" instead of "What is your IP Address"?

Ubuntu Networking :: Connects To Some WiFi Signals But Not Others

Mar 4, 2011

i noticed today that the last three places ive tried to use wifi at (a friends house, my cousins house, and my moms office wifi) refuse to connect, even after triple checking all the passwords and trying various security protocols (WEP 40, WEP 128, etc.). strangely, last weekend i was able to connect to a hotel wifi signal with no trouble. even stranger, my ipod touch is able to connect to all these places. at my friends house, we even tried an ethernet cable but ubuntu didnt even know it was there. im a little concerned about this, as i might need to connect to wifi for something really important and ubuntu wont cooperate.

I had windows and 8.10 earlier and now have single boot 10.04 !

1.) I can see wireless networks only after I am connected to the router through wired ! I guess its some thing to do with me activating ifup and ifdown, when my wired connection stopped working as i was trying to install wireless drivers.

2.) Even when I see wireless networks, i cannot connect to any of them.

I tried various things for a whole day trying to fix it and i doubt if i screwed up some thing that was running good.

Fedora Networking :: Broadcom B43 Not Connecting?

I could work for about 5 mins then it would start searching and asking me to confirm to connect to my network. After some time NM kept on asking all the time to confirm the network and key.I reset the router and check to see if other PCs were OK and a Windoze & Linux laptops were fine, no problem there so it's not the routerd.I'm wondering if the broadcomm card is starting to fail as it heats up or could it be a corrupt file or parametersNo updates have been done in the last month, it just started today. Here are the results from the log and dmesg:

Fedora Networking :: BCM4322 Broadcom Card Can't Use WEP

Jul 11, 2009

I have a Dell-made, Broadcom-based wireless card, BCM4322. I'm using Broadcom's proprietary drivers from RPM Fusion.

Code:
lspci | grep -i broadcom
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5784M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10)
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)

Since installing F11, I can no longer connect to WEP-secured wireless. When I use automatic IP settings, the connection simply times out. When I specify an IP, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS server, NetworkManager thinks the connection properly established, but any pings time out, even when I don't specify a hostname (just an IP address). I can connect to (and use) unencrypted wireless. I haven't tried other encryption schemes. The WEP index is 1 and it's non-authenticated (open). I've been playing with the settings for over a week now with no success.

Fedora Networking :: Error - No Packages Available Broadcom-wl

Aug 11, 2010

Ive just installed Fedora 12 on my laptop (HP Pavilion DV4 1213la- i also have Windows 7) and wifi wasnt working at all (Broadcom BCM4312)So i thought, lets google it!, i pluged it to my router and i had internet working just fine.

After goggling for an hour i found a website where some guy had a problem similar to mine (couldnt connect to internet by WIFI with the same Network Controller BUT on Fedora 11)[URL] and as a response they told him to install the packages using " yum install broadcom-wl wl-kmod "So i did that, it downloaded some stuff (i didnt see what it was :S), but then said something like "No packages available broadcom-wl" and "No packages available wl-kmod"I tought it had done something so i did as the website told me, reboot my computer.

When it turned back on, not only wifi wasnt working but now i cant even connect by cable, i plug it in and nothing happens (not even the little lights from the port)So my question is, is there any way to restore whatever that command did?

After Fedora installation I got a problem that I cannot connect to my wireless network I used to using Xp, I think that my wireless card is not installed on Fedora because when I checked in the network configuration I found that the only installed adapter is the Ethernet Realtek for the wired connection.

My OS is Fedora 11.
