Aug 7, 2010

I can't pick up any wireless signals while running Ubuntu 10.04, but while running Windows 7, I pick them up. I have the feeling it's because of a missing driver, could anyone help me solve this issue?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Does Not Detect Signals Until Wired Connection Is Provided And More Below

Sep 7, 2010

I had windows and 8.10 earlier and now have single boot 10.04 !

1.) I can see wireless networks only after I am connected to the router through wired ! I guess its some thing to do with me activating ifup and ifdown, when my wired connection stopped working as i was trying to install wireless drivers.

2.) Even when I see wireless networks, i cannot connect to any of them.

I tried various things for a whole day trying to fix it and i doubt if i screwed up some thing that was running good.

Ubuntu Networking :: Computer Unable To Find Wireless Signals Despite Right Next To Router

Apr 4, 2011

just switched from Windows Vista to Ubuntu 10.10 on my Toshiba laptop and I'm loving it, except for some wireless connection problems. About 70% of the time, my computer is unable to find any wireless signals whatsoever, despite being right next to the router. When it does find the signal it connects fine and runs great, but most of the time it doesn't show any signals at all. I can't find any pattern to when it does or doesn't find the signal. My result for the "sudo lshw -C network"

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Pick Up Home Wireless Signal?

Mar 15, 2010

For the past few months I've been using Ultimate Edition 2.3 on my laptop. Various problems I encountered convinced me to switch. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 today and after the install I can't pick up my wireless router on the list of available networks. I'm able to pick up every other one on my block, just not my own. My server and my roommates laptop can pick it up and are connected to it, the problem seems to be exclusive to this laptop with the fresh install on it.I tried the 'connect to hidden network' option and it doesn't connect, it just keeps asking for the psk

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Doesn't Pick Up One Of The Networks?

Apr 11, 2011

I just loaded 10.10 onto a stock hp pavalion zt3000 and everything is running fine except it won't detect my college's wifi network. It picks up everything else and runs without a hitch. (I'm actually on my work's wireless network atm) The network is not hidden and doesn't have any encryption. The wireless is on and has even detected other networks when it doesn't see the school's. I searched but couldn't find much on this specific problem but Im guessing/hoping its something simple here's the hardware: Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)

here's ifconfig:

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Pick Up Wireless Networks With Netgear WNR3500L

Jun 26, 2011

I recently purchased a WNR3500L wireless router and it works great with Windows. However, when I boot up Ubuntu 11.04, it cannot find other wireless networks in the area. Despite this, my internet connection speed to my computer remains unaffected...the only issue is that it cannot pick up other networks.

From searching on Google and on these forums, I've learned that most routers don't work "out of the box" with Ubuntu...NDISWrapper and additional drivers must be installed in order to make them work to their full potential. But alas, I am a super-newb...I don't know what to do from here on to get my Netgear WNR3500L router to pick up other wireless signals.

Ubuntu :: 64 Bit Won't Shutdown Or Pick Up Wireless?

Feb 27, 2010

I'm running an HP Pavillion ZV6000, AMD 64 Athlon.I think that I'm not getting wireless because it never really shuts down. I've tried shutting down from the term (what I was used to from Damn Small) and it drops the window manager and then freezes on the black screen . . . I then have to do a hard shutdown (holding the power button).I've tried making sure that I don't have a USB stick in . . . shutdown wireless moduals, still the same.I'm starting to forget my keyboard commands, being that I am having to use windows to get on-line . . . like now!

Ubuntu :: Two Wireless Access Points - Pick Right Network?

Mar 1, 2010

I have two wireless access points in my home network. A Linksys upstairs and a Watchguard Firebox downstairs. The Firebox acts as the gateway for my network to the internet (well, the ISP's router anyway). I invariably use my Hardy Heron installed HP laptop downstairs, less than 10ft from the Firebox. The signal bar for the Firebox shows three bars, the linksys just one. So, why the heck does my Ubuntu insist on connecting to the Linksys everytime?! I can manually switch it afterward but still, it's annoying.

SUSE :: Can No Longer Pick Up Wireless Internet Signal

Mar 24, 2010

my laptop, an Acer Aspire 5050, recently broke horribly. However, after giving it to an IT teacher at my college, he fixed it, but now the operating system is OpenSuse 11.2 (It was Windows Vista Home Basic before). I have never used OpenSuse, or any Linux before, but everything seemed fine. However, I discovered that I can no longer pick up my wireless internet signal - why is this and what can I do to fix it?! Be aware I am not a computer man, and will not understand complicated technical language.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connects To Some WiFi Signals But Not Others

Mar 4, 2011

i noticed today that the last three places ive tried to use wifi at (a friends house, my cousins house, and my moms office wifi) refuse to connect, even after triple checking all the passwords and trying various security protocols (WEP 40, WEP 128, etc.). strangely, last weekend i was able to connect to a hotel wifi signal with no trouble. even stranger, my ipod touch is able to connect to all these places. at my friends house, we even tried an ethernet cable but ubuntu didnt even know it was there. im a little concerned about this, as i might need to connect to wifi for something really important and ubuntu wont cooperate.

Fedora Networking :: Signals Strong But Broadcom 4318 Very Slow?

Nov 19, 2009

I've got the b43 driver and firmware installed, and the system comes up fine, but the max throughput on the wlan0 is about 100Kb/s. My laptop and iwl do about 2.5Mbps from the same location in the house. The signal is plenty strong:

wlan0
IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"sar2"
Mode: Managed Frequency:2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:23:69:22:5C:00
Bit Rate=36 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm
Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality=61/70 Signal level=-49 dBm Noise level=-57 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Is this expected from the b43 driver and a bcm4318? I was hoping for much better throughput. Also, I tried the broadcom-wl driver, but it doesn't seem to recognize the card. It looks like it's not supported from their site, only the 4311,12,21,22 were listed, although I see posts where other people claim they are using it with a 4318?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Get Internal Ethernet To Pick Up Router

Oct 8, 2010

My old G USB network stick died and I also cannot get my internal ethernet to pick up my router. I've tried installing ndiswrapper, but I keep getting prompted to insert the installation cd for ubuntu's Jaunt Jackalope, which is what I am currently operating. I don't have an installation disk. I installed this version a while ago via usb stick (which I no longer have). Is there any way I can install ndiswrapper without having to use a ubuntu installation disk? I'm hoping installing ndiswrapper will solve my inability to connect wirelessly to the net via either my ethernet card of the new NetGear N100 usb network stick I just purchased.

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - Installing Correct Drivers To Get Wireless Running

Feb 13, 2010

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix for my new laptop. I've tried at great length to install the correct drivers to get my wireless up and running. I'm currently trying to install the Broadcom driver for my 802.11g wireless card. I have downloaded the headers and tools for ubuntu and am proceeding with the instructions given on [URL].

But when I get to these steps I come unstuck
# mkdir hybrid_wl
# cd hybrid_wl
# tar xzf <path>/hybrid-portsrc.tar

I can make the directory and open it but when it comes to the third step I get a message saying that there is no such file or directory.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Drops Out When Running On Battery?

Feb 27, 2010

I just got a Lenovo Thinkpad x100e. Everything seems to be running well, with this exception of the wireless adapter. When running on the battery the wireless runs for about 30secs to 1 minute before dropping out. The NetworkManager says it's still connected, but nothing goes across the network. Disabling and then re-enabling the wireless works, for about 30 sec to a minute. The weird thing is this behavior DOESN'T occur when the power adapter is plugged in.

I'm wondering what power management parts I should be looking at? I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2, KDE 4.3.5 if that helps.
