Fedora Networking :: BCM4322 Broadcom Card Can't Use WEP

Jul 11, 2009

I have a Dell-made, Broadcom-based wireless card, BCM4322. I'm using Broadcom's proprietary drivers from RPM Fusion.

Code:
lspci | grep -i broadcom
09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5784M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10)
0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)

Since installing F11, I can no longer connect to WEP-secured wireless. When I use automatic IP settings, the connection simply times out. When I specify an IP, Netmask, Gateway, and DNS server, NetworkManager thinks the connection properly established, but any pings time out, even when I don't specify a hostname (just an IP address). I can connect to (and use) unencrypted wireless. I haven't tried other encryption schemes. The WEP index is 1 and it's non-authenticated (open). I've been playing with the settings for over a week now with no success.

Fedora Networking :: Fc11: Broadcom BCM4322 Can't Authenticate

Jul 15, 2009

I can't get my Broadcoam BCM4322 to connect to a protected access point. I've tried the drivers from rpmfusion, and tried to build the module with the source+binary package from Broadcom, all with no luck. The failure seems to happen during the WPA negotiation.

I haven't tried connecting to an unsecured WiFi access point.

When booting this same laptop to Kubuntu 9.04, it can connect to secured, so it is possible under linux.

Here's output from lspci, and the tail of the log while KNetworkManager is trying to connect the device.

lspci | grep -i network

Fedora Networking :: 14 Can't Connect To SpeedTouch 585 - Either Wireless Broadcom Card Or The Wired Ethernet Card

Dec 4, 2010

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Fedora Networking :: Install Broadcom Wireless Card On 11?

Sep 1, 2009

I chose to change my operating system from Microsoft Xp to Linux and finally chose Fedora to be my new OS.

After Fedora installation I got a problem that I cannot connect to my wireless network I used to using Xp, I think that my wireless card is not installed on Fedora because when I checked in the network configuration I found that the only installed adapter is the Ethernet Realtek for the wired connection.

My OS is Fedora 11.

The CPU Model name is : Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T8300 @2.40 GHz, so I think that my architecture is x86_64.

My Network controller is : Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g

Fedora Networking :: HP Mini 110 Broadcom Wireless - Can't Get The Card To Turn On Using The Slide Switch

Sep 11, 2009

I have an HP mini 110 with Fedora 11 install. I installed the broadcom-wl and wl-kmod from yum but still no wireless. First I can't get the broadcom card to turn on using the slide switch on the front of the computer. The device is inactive in the network configuration-devices window. The card is not in the network configuration hardware window. When I try to add it manually, there is no entry for the card in the drop down list. I am new to Fedora but have used linux for years. Unfortunately this is my first attempt at wireless networking.

The posts and google stuff doesn't say much more than "yum install broadcom-wl" Can anyone point me into the right direction? I have a feeling I am missing something very simple, because this computer dual boots Linux Mint and wireless works flawlessly.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Wireless Card Not Working On 10.10?

My wireless works perfectly with my university networks. But I have problem connecting to my house router. The first time I installed Ubuntu 10.10, it connected to internet and worked well. After a restart needed by nVidia driver, my house wireless stopped working while my university wireless still works. I have tried reinstalling the driver using System/Administration/Additional Drivers and manually

Networking :: Broadcom Card Works But Sensitivity Reduced?

Feb 28, 2010

I have a Broadcom based PCMCIA wifi card that works great on an older kernel in Debian after a friend of mine did the fwcutter business.

I just installed Backtrack 4 release version on another laptop. While this card works right out of the box the sensitivity is greatly reduced. The built in wifi card (Intel chipset) can see twice as many APs at any given time.

Now, I know that Broadcom chipsets are not the best but this card normally has fantastic sensitivity and Tx power plus an external antenna connector so I really need to get it working properly. When it's working properly under Linux or Windows it blows the competition away.

Networking :: Ubuntu 8.10 With Broadcom Chipset Pcmcia Card

Dec 18, 2010

some time ago I installed 8.10 on my x20 thinkpad. I at the time was trying to get it going on a Netgear WG511 v2 card. I was eventually successful in getting it going with ndiswrapper and all has been happy until...

I decided to give my laptop to an elderly friend for his first computer. He is living in a location where (for a variety of reasons) he is sharing a network connection to the internet with a few people. The protocol there WPA2 TKIP (IIRC) and no matter what the bloody thing won't connect. Here at home I run a different setup so its not a big deal

So, I thought I'd try another card to get it going there. I chose a "Aironet" card (badged a Dell 4800 LT) and tried to install this on 8.10

I expected it would install out of the box, but did not "seem to".

I followed the steps on this page, but still it won't connect to my WiFi at home (which I am using to connect to with this x31 thinkpad)

I am using Network Management Applet 0.70 and this works fine with the Netgear card, even showing all the local networks it finds.

When I plug in the Dell card it blinks the activity light and the status light in seemingly meaningful ways, but nothing seems to connect and I find nothing listed in the Network Applet.

I suspect that the OS is discovering the card as when doing an iwconfig I find two entries that would be that card:

eth1 and wifi0

iwlist scan returns:

which makes me think two interfaces are taking the same hardware...

iwconfig returns idential results for eth1 and wifi0

If the card isn't compatible with 9.10 is it compatible with later versions of Ubuntu? Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Network Card - WiFi Light Stays On All The Time ?

Dec 13, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 online today. I was using 10.04 32-bit before, and the network drivers were easy to find and install. Ubuntu did the job for me and they worked flawlessly. It was a relief I didn't need to search around.

Even though 10.10 (64bit) found the drivers for me, both ethernet and wireless, they do not seem to be working alright. I installed both, made a restart. I found that the WiFi light on my laptop stays on, even if the wireless network is turned off using either the key combination (Fn+F2), or manually turning it off.

Issues with the ethernet? I am right now using ethernet but it does not care to detect the connection. Empathy won't connect automatically as a result- says no network connection. But here I am, posting this. Evidently, there is a connection, right?

Issues with the wireless? The WiFi light stays on all the time, and it isn't able to get hang of the connection I have at home. It just won't show any wireless connections available. When I tried to connect by giving it the SSID and the encryption type and password, it didn't work. Just kept asking for the password again and again (I have checked with the router- the password is correct).

Fedora Hardware :: F13 Does Not Recognize Broadcom BCM57780 Ethernet Card

So far I've found:

2) Related thread for F12.

I've tried all possible solutions mentioned in both the bug and the thread, but nothing could convince my F13 to like the ethernet card.

2. I installed first the STA package, then b43-fwcutter. No joy.

3. I installed NDISwrapper, but cannot find the .inf file I need. Anyone? I dual boot with Vista, so I went into my Windows system and pulled a .inf file from the driver files there (bcmwl6.inf), but NDISwrapper said it was not valid. I have looked all over the web for a .inf driver file for this chipset but cannot seem to find anything (all I can find is .exe files).

Fedora Hardware :: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 / No 'b43' Network Card Was Recognized?

Nov 25, 2009

I have had a Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 since Fedora 10. In addition, both Fedora 10 and 11 wouldn't recognize the card with out third-party drivers. I was pretty excited when I booted the 12 Live CD and it recognized it at boot.

Since this is my lab box I thought its time to give Fedora 12 a try.

I did an DVD upgrade from 11 to 12 and rebooted. The Broadcom came up fine this time. I did a yum upgrade to finish from whatever was not on the DVD and rebooted. This time no 'b43' network card was recognized. I still had my third part driver files so I:

b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ ./broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o

and a 'modprobe b43' and I had my card back.

I am sorry for dragging this out this far, but now every time the Fedora 12 box reboots I have to type in modprobe b43 to get my card to work. I did not have to do this for neither Fedora 10 nor 11.

I put a line in /etc/modprobe.conf - 'alias wlan0 b43' but I still don't get my wireless card until I type modprobe b43.
