I'm trying to install a webConnect Jet Model UMG1691 on to my laptop running UBUNTU version 9.10. I'm using T-mobile as the ISP. I'm new to the LINUX world so you'll have to explain it to me like I'm 3 years old if there's going to be a lot of terminal jargon.
sometimes our ADSL connection gives up and we are left without internet connection for days until the problem gets fixed. I mean by this problem along the phone line. It affects all machines that connect to the internet through a Netgear WIFI Modem Router. I recently tried an alternative when this happens is to use a USB Huawei Mobile Broadband UMTS connection which works when you insert it in 1 laptop. Is there a way i could get the Netgear WIFI modem router to connect on that usb stick or PC that is online on that usb stick and give access to other machines that will want to connect to the web ?
I have a Samsung C5212 mobile. I use it this as mobile broadband modem in Ubuntu 10.04 without any problems. But in maverick I am not able to connect it to Internet. I tried both bluetooth and data cable. Both fails I googled about the problem and got command nmcli. But gives an error message

I have HP mininote 2133 with Suse SLED 10. I am trying to connect internet via bluetooth and a mobile phone. The machine itself does not have bluetooth, but it recognizes the Belkin bluetooth gadget, which I inserted into the USB port. I started the bluetooth with Yast and "Information about the equipment (I don't know what the correct term is in English, because my OS is in Finnish language)" tells that there is Belkin Bluetooth adapter connected. But my mobile phone cannot find my computer (there is nothing wrong with the phone, because it can find other computers!) when I try to pair up the phone and the computer. What should I do to connect?
I just want to tell everyone how good the Garmin/Asus A10 mobile phone is as an internet modem.I am in Australia and Mobile internet is an expensive thing to have. cheapest is dodo but i had a few problems trying out a friends usb modem.Anyway i was in the market for a Gps phone and discover this one. it is Android phone and pretty cheap so far it is very good gps, camera, mp3, and phone is excellent.BUT here is the clincher. when you plug it into the computer, the phone screen lights up and gives you 3 options.

I just installed the latest Ubuntu on my laptop. WEP key is not accepted when connecting to wireless even I using the correct key. When I closed the WEP, I able to connect to the Internet. I had search for a long time. Seems like linux always has this kind of problems. WEP key is not recognised due to ASCII or Hex key? How I choose to insert the ASCII or Hex?
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.
New to forum and quite new to any linux distro, have played around a little with older Ubuntus, having spare desktop I thought it was time to see how things are developing with the latest release. 10.10, downloaded and cd made.
Installed without a hitch, picked up all the hardware even my Edimax 712g nic. entered wireless network details and was off. Enjoying the new look and feel of the OS surfing, mailing and connecting to my win 7 laptop for my music shares. We then had visitors round so shut down, and went back to it this morning, only to find that a couple of things had changed.
(1) no matter what I do (Followed several different suggestions found on here) and no matter how many times I check all the details, It will not connect, to the router just carries on seemingly without end trying; only broken by the requests for the security key of the router.
(2) the keyring password is not recognised.
I thought I may have done something I didn't realise, so I simply did a reinstall, everything exactly the same, and just replicate the problem I perfromed a restart; ending up with exactly the same result.
I have a 3g data card(LW272 GSM/WCDMA USB Modem with HSPADataCard) which is a type of multi-mode, 3G modem or card, applicable to 2G/3G networks; but it doesn't get recognised in Ubuntu 9.10. Actually, this device came with a software(for linux too) which makes calls and sms possible simultaneously while surfing. But while installation(from root terminal) i see a repeated trials of connecting to modem but it does not find the device(something wrong in installation), and the interface of the software also shows "No(U) Sim". Anyhow it doesn't bother me much if i m not able to avail the additional services( call and sms), but what i need is to make the modem recognisable so that i could configure the connection.
I just installed Ubuntu on my computer, and it will not display wireless.I researched other posts and found something to do to display info, perhaps someone will be able to tell me what is wrong?
I am trying to get Ubuntu10.04 working on a packardbell easynote r1004 but the wireless device is not being recognised. I have ethernet working and have tried updating. It had found a hardware driver for a software modem..
After forgetting my wifi router password, I had to reset and reconfigure the router. I enabled WEP, and after I typed the password, the computer now recognises it automatically. But I can't connect to the internet no matter how long I wait. (The wired internet connection works fine.) How can I get the wifi to connect to the internet?
I m nokia mobile to connect to internet in 11.2 configured it all in n/w manager with phone number *99#
APN: XYUX(as given by provider)

I have two dual-booted Windows/Ubuntu machines--one desktop and one laptop--and both have SSH servers installed. At home, I use port-forwarding to connect to these servers externally.
I am interested however, in being able to connect to my laptop's ssh server no matter where it is. I am interested in this partly due to anti-theft precautions and partly just curiosity. I know there is anti theft software that lets you remotely modify your computer--from ANY IP address--and I want to know if you can do this with SSH. Imagine someone stole my laptop and connected to the internet in a random location. Assuming i somehow know this ip address, is there any way I could SSH to it? (I doubt the router would forward port 22 or whatever to this computer...)
I have a nokia n70 and currently i cant tarnsfer anything from mobile to my pc. i have setup my bluetooth device (usb) but everytime i try and send file from my mobile to pc, it says 'sending failed'. any solutions?

Just loaded Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell 5100, (XP finally got the bsod) I have verizon mobile broadband, all was very good until I realized I cannot connect wirelessly. The usb modem was not recognized, there is no indication of any wireless connection. There is no icon and nothing happens when the usb modem is plugged in. I have been working on this for hrs & hrs. I am a complete novice on Linux, but CompT1 A certified on PC's
I have an USB (Huawei 1751) modem for mobile broadband. I had it up and running in Ubuntu 9.10 but I had to clear the computer for various reasons. I have decided to only use LTS versions so for the reinstall I have used Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I have downloaded and installed usb_modeswitch and can see that the modes is changed to the right value. After that I wanted to add a new mobile broadband connection in the network connections wizzard - but cannot see any settings for mobile broadband. I am sure it must be possible - but where is this function hidden in version 8.04 ?
I have just switched to Ubuntu from Win 7 RC. So far its been fun, learning to use terminal and all. But I have got a problem now I cannot find a solution to.
I am using 3 Mobile Broadband. The thing just worked - I plugged it in, created a new connection, modified config a little and was happily browsing.
However, it started acting out yesterday. When I boot the system with the modem plugged in, the USB stick is recignised and NetworkManager starts connecting (I have auto connect on). It then shows the "connected" message, and generally appears working fine.
On the other hand, I cannot open a single page in Firefox, it shows the default server not found page.
I used the approach Windows taught me: close, open, retry. I unmount the 3 Mobile Broadband drive, pull the modem out and reconnect it. NetworkManager then does it's job and this time everything works.
I nether had this problem in Win7 or Vista. It looks to me something goes wrong during the booting when the modem is plugged in.
I have bought reliance netconnect broadband+ 3.1 Mbps connection. I am provided Huawai EC1260 device to make the connection. But using ubuntu 9.1 I am not able to make the connection work. I have tested the device in windows XP and it's working fine there. I don't want to use windows and desperate to establish the connection in Ubuntu 9.1.
