I've been trying to make my FC13 Dell d620 work with a Huawei 3G usb modem mode E173. I can not switch the device to modem instead of storage with usb_modswitch. This is what I get on lsusb:

I just purchased a mobile broadband connection from 3 in Denmark. I spent three hours following guides about usb-modeswitch and such. I just couldn't get it to work. Now, finally, I've come THIS far, but yet no internet.

I am having desperate problems trying to connect to the net with a Huawei E173 USB modem. I was using Linux Mint 7 which I upgraded to version 9 today to see if that would fix the problem but it made no difference. Basically it seems the only time I can connect to the net in linux is if I use the modem in windows and then restart straight into linux, in that case it sometimes gets recognised and works. So at least I know it can work.
I've been trying loads of stuff like usb_modeswitch I found on the net but none of it has worked. Here is what ls-usb gives me -

I am unable to get any work done without the net and I will not have access to a wired connection til the new year.
My connection is much slower on linux than windows (I'm dualbooting so its easy to test). On speedtest.net I get 0.30Mb/s at most on linux but about 2Mb/s on windows.Torrents does not seem to be affected thou. I've got speeds up to about 150kB/s on Fedora.I'm running a fresh install of Fedora 12 64 bit.

Is there anyway to change the speed of it or do I have to keep with GPRS at the moment?

For the Internet I have a Huawei E1550 dongle on the 3 network in the UK which I'm currently using with Windows XP on my desktop to post this thread. After some initial fumbling, I'm unable to use the dongle with Ubuntu.

I have a problem with this modem. when i installed required packages for this device like usbswitch, wvdial etc, my internet connect works fine but as i switch off the PC and restart, PC can not detect the modem, it detect as mass storage device. Is there any command/option that i switch the mass storage device into modem in the terminal window or on the GUI platform mean on the desktop screen.

But after unlocking it with a software,the modem is detected and when i connect ,it immediately disconnects. unlocking was some 'Firmware upgrade' . I tried other distros like pclinuxOs but the same problem prevails. and it is working in windows.

I think you may have heard this problem just a few thousand times. couple of days ago i took the plunge and installed Ubuntu 9.10. I already run XP Pro. Vodafone (Huawei K3520) mobile broadband dongle. Yes i know its a touchy subject but i am going cross-eyed reading info on various forums from this one to the betavine forums and a detour through vodafone themselves. I just can't find clear concise info on how to get this dongle up and running with Ubuntu. My laptop is Acer Aspire 5633 WLMi. I just installed 10.10 on a my new Aspire One Acer netbook and I got a mobile broadband USB stick from Wind mobile.
The stick is activated because it works on my 20 GB Windoze 7 O.S. but it doesn't work at all on my 140 GB Ubuntu O.S. Both systems are on the same machine so I know it's not a hardware problem either.
Here's what happens: I log on to Ubuntu, plug in the stick and I select the "New mobile broadband GSM connection" in the network connections menu.
From there I selected my country (Canada) and my mobile provider (Wind Mobile) than I selected my plan (Mobile Broadband) and my APN (broadband.windmobile.ca).
Then the stick blinks slowly and the network icon looks forever for a connection but no matter how long I wait no connection ever establishes. My roomate has it working on his HP laptop Ubuntu but no luck on mine. The stick just keeps blinking, a steady light indicates a connection.
I have a Huawei E122 Mobile Broadband HSPA USB Stick on three ireland. i can't get it to connect. but i think the problem might be, when i stick it in nothing happens. it doesn't show up under lsusb. i don't think it "mounts"

How do I installed a sprint novatel 3g modem? I see sprint under the mobile broadband tab when I create a new connection, and it shows all the right information, but I never can connect.

I am trying to switch to mobile broadband, Ubuntu 9.10, Huawei E1750 modem, provider Telia Sweden. So far I tried this:
(previous: tried to get started with an Option Icon 550 modem, but could not do it. Ubuntu froze completely, networkmanager refused to see the modem after this. Read somewhere that it is (next to) impossible with Ubuntu, but Huawei is a better chance. Maybe I changed some settings on the way, went and got a Huawei)
-connected modem, nothing happened
-rebooted to Windows Vista, installed modem
-rebooted to Ubuntu networkmanager sees the modem, when I select it, it gives a message 'GSM network, disconnected'
Also: Ububtu sees the usb stick as a folder
I tried to use multiple mobile broadband modems in ubuntu 10.10 and encounter a bug as follows:
When i plug in a new modem, all the attached modem is automatic go offline ( thus my connection is down), and try to redial back, sometime the redial is successful, sometime it's not.
It was working fine in ubuntu 9.10, plug in a new modem, all attached modems stay connected.
I have a k3806-z vodafone mobile broadband modem, on ubuntu 10.04. I have added the mobile broadband connection with the network manager wizard. But network manager does not list my connection. I installed usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data. Still nothing. The disc utility tells me it recognises the modem as a cd drive and a storage device. Evidently usb-modeswitch is not working.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a problem with my mobile broadband connection. I have a huaweii e166 usb hsdpa modem. It is veeerrryy slow. It used to work fine in karmic a few days ago, used to get 800kbps (from whatismy.com), now in Lucid the speed test does not even finish sometimes, but if I open the system monitor it shows about 1kbps. Sometimes is gets slightly faster and I can browser a bit more, but then the speed goes down again, to barely useable. I have also setup the modem in xp and whatismy.com speedtest shows 900+kbps constantly. I did a clean install of lucid on my compaq presario cq60 laptop. I have disabled ipv6 and installed the usb-modeswitch_1.1.2-2_i386.deb and usb-modeswitch-data_20100127-1_all.beb but it is still very slow.

I am trying to use the HUAWEI E1756C USB stick to connect to the internet. Installing usb_modeswitch and usb_modeswitch-data allowed networkmanager to "recognize" the stick and set up a mobile broadband connection.
The result is that NM succeeded in connecting (one of every five attempts) but firefox does not surf, nor emails can be downloaded etc. Just like if not being connected. The USB modem shows the steady blue LED as connected.
A NM issue? I have tried disabling NM control and tried with PPP clients like NMTSMON, wvdial and even Sakis3g. All with the same results. They seem to connect and show flux up and downloaded but no surfing.
resolf.conf shows is pretty much empty and no DNS there.
The working settings in Window$ are:
Same settings with Sakis3G, or NMTSMON or NM result in connection with no action from applications that use the internet.
I have had a similar issue with WLAN each time I change to a different network. I solve that by forcing to update the DHCP. I mean using -su dhcpd wlan0
But attempts like dhcpcd ttyUSB0 or dhcpcd ttyS0 get the same result. So no idea if this is an DHCP, or DNS or another issue.

I know, from detailed google searching, and several threads on here, that a number of people have this mobile broadband modem, and have got it working. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 I have got usb_modeswitch working, however, I'm not having any success when I do modprobe. (It seems that this fixes the problem for everybody else, but not me). It doesn't seem to be attaching any driver to the modem, see output below.

I have absolutely no internet from my Ubuntu, so I won't be able to do a sudo apt-get. I think I can get what I need from the packages.ubuntu website, except, I don't know what I might need, or where to go from here.
I have mobile broadband which is T-Mobile UK. The modem is a Huawei E160 and on a Ubuntu page, it says that this modem doesn't work at all. That's the only internet source I have so I need to be able to use it. tried to install usb_modeswitch and I'm going to test a different piece of software later. My version of Ubuntu is 10.04.

The problem is that I have no clue what information I am supposed to give when configuring it through KNetwork manager. The password is disabled and I think the username should be telenor which is my ISP, the other info lines in KNetwork manager, however, I am very uncertain of, and I can't seem to get it working. I have switched from traditional setup with ifup to user controlled through Network Manager and the modem is detected. The module option seems to be loaded and the 'mode' of the stick seems also to be correct, it is not detected as a storage device at least.
I got Mint 7 running on my Laptop, a Pentium 4 by Dell. It dual boots XP as well. But the mobile broadband which connects by the USB port only works in XP. There are small windows that say it will not run. Errors. How can I get this working in Linux?

I use opensuse 11.3 whith the kernal 2.6.34-12.
So what i want to do:
1) get attached patch
2) install and extract kernel source
3) patching and compilation (only drivers/usb/serial subdirectory)
4) copy resulting modules to kernel modules directory
If I compile: make O=../temp prepare i get a mistake.

I'm using a 'ice.net' D-50 (CDMA EV-DO rev A) mobile broadband USB modem, also sold as Cmotech CNU-680 in other areas. The modem is connected to a USB port on a hp8710w mobile workstation.
As the 11.2 Gnome Network Manager won't connect this modem to Internet (see my first post here), I have downloaded and installed a 'D50 Modem Manager program' from [url]
After unpacking and installing this cmotech-qtmodem-1.6-1.i586.rpm package for suse on 11.2 x86_64, the gui application 'D-50 Modem Manager' is found in the Internet Group.
However, neither this program does connect the D-50 modem really on 11.2 x86_64 (as it did on 11.1 x86_64). Tried both traditional network setup and with Network Manager.
Any idea and suggestion how to trobleshoot this further? I think I've seen that a newer version cmotech-qtmodem 1.9 has been mentioned on the web, but without being able to find and download this version.
