View 4 RepliesI'm Linux beginner. I have cisco vpnclient always down I need to run it automatically when it is down.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn order to gain access to my university network remotely I was asked to open a website that would act as a gateway. Upon opening the site I was asked to run a Java application, which installed a Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on the system. However, now I do not need this, but I cannot find a way to uninstall it. It does not appear in the Synaptic Manager or the the ubuntu Software centre, so I cannot find the package to uninstall it. The software does appear in the 'Internet' section in the Application drop down menu and runs without the need of Firefox. I read the Cisco release notes but I could not find a way to uninstall the software.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install the Cisco VPN client on Ubuntu 11.04, kernel version 2.6.38-8 generic-pae. I need a step by step process since I am an absolute beginner with Ubuntu and this is my first install on the operating system. I have already tried the network manager but connection always fails. I have also tried the website [URL] but this always fails, seems this was made for earlier versions of Ubuntu and earlier kernel versions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed a vpnagent on my Slackware 12.2. A script running the vpnagent daemon is /etc/rc.d/init.d/vpnagent_init. My network is started with rc.inet1. The queston is at which point during the startup to run "vpnagent_init" script. I thought to add a call to rc.locale.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect to my company's VPN using the Cisco VPN client, I get a kernel panic. Please don't suggest I should Cisco's client, it only works with Kernels older than 2.6.24 (I have 2.6.35).
So I use vpnc. The error message is:

this means the concentrator did not like what we had to offer.

Cisco vpn client would freeze the system. The only way to recover is to do a hard reset. The funny thing is I had it working before, so it may be random. However, it just happened 3 times in a row and I haven't tried again. I'll try again tonight. I'm pretty sure I'm running the latest client for 64bit linux systems. I'll confirm that when I get a chance, as well as my kernel.

I have got different clients with different SOHO routers on sites (Netgear , Linksys, SnapGear, etc.) All those clients use VPN IPSec . As you know that those routers has many entries :
Tunnel name
key lifetime
Preshared Secret
Phase 1 proposal
Phase 2 Proposal etc.
I am trying to familiarize myself to use different VPN clients (a piece of software ), that will be installed on clients, laptops to access their work network from home. I came across a problem with Cisco VPN client V5.0.06 I could not find all the above entries. I know Cisco devices are proprietary, does that mean cisco vpn client is not compatible with those router?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyone can show/tell or direct me to a guide to removing Windows 7 off my other partition? I'd just prefer to have Ubuntu 10.4 on the entire HD instead of dual booting. I came here so I didn't have to reinstall and wipe the entire HD to do so. Pretty sure there's a way to wipe 7 off the other side and update GRUB to only detect ubuntu.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am not averse to using the command line it's just that I don't know many commands so I need complete instructions when using the command line. I need to set up Ubuntu server at the office and I'm the dangerous IT guy that just knows enough to be dangerous but the little company won't hire a real IT guy so I do IT besides my real job, which is to usethe computers, not fix them, set them up, configure networks, servers etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I was wondering if being relatively new to Ubuntu, and having no experience at all with servers, I would be able to set up a server (one server and a couple of computers), to use in a hostel. I took a good look at the Ubuntu Documentation Section:URl..and most of the things I don't even know what they are for (MySQU, Samba, Apache2).
Basically I need to have a couple of computers with internet access, allowing me to control their use, file sharing to a main HD in the server, also I would like to use the server computer as my personal desktop (office, internet, etc.) and that's about it..The question is, if I were to follow that guide, do you think I can set it up?Also, do you know a guide in which the hardware components are mentioned? Because I googled and the amount of trash coming out, mostly outdated, is extremely annoying.
It's possible I just did something wrong...Anyway, I don't have any sounds, and haven't since installation.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server the other day, which gives me access to a command line only, to start out with. I'm hoping someone would be able to recommend a guide (online or a book, either way) for absolutely clueless beginners, so that I can learn to competently get around from the command line.
This would include information like:
Navigating the file system.
Editing text document.
Installing drivers.
Mounting data sources.
Installing and configuring packages.
and eventually installing a desktop environment.
I learned how to do this on the 'net somewhere. This HowTo will help you create an account on the login screen that will log in the same guest-session seen in the user menu. The advantage of this is that it will be an easily accessible guest account, while not preserving any files or changes on logout, and a higher security model for the account. Confirmed to work on 10.04 - 10.10, but the directions are for 10.10
1. Under an existing administrator account, go to the menu entry System --> administration --> Users and Groups.
2. Click Add. you may need to provide a password at this point. Name your new user anything you would like, except guest. The account cannot be called guest, but visitor does nicely. encryption of the account is not needed. This account will be a "booster" account to guest-session.
3. On the next screen, enter a password, and make sure that you click the check box "Don't ask for password on login", Click OK to finish.
4. As an extra precaution, click Advanced settings, when back on the Users and Groups screen, and on the User Privileges tab, uncheck Monitor System Logs.
5. Exit the Users and groups menu, and then log out and into your new account.
6. Once there, make a folder called GuestManager, and in that folder, make a plain text file called Guestmanager.sh, with this code in it :
Code:
#!/bin/bash
# Launches the guest session
/usr/share/gdm/guest-session/guest-session-launch
# Logs the user when done
/usr/bin/gnome-session-save --logout
7. Save that and then right click on it, go to properties, and then go to the permissions tab. On this tab, click "allow executing file as program", and then close that window.
8. Open the menu entry System --> Preferences --> Startup Applications, and once there, turn off all the startup applications, and then click add. Fill in the name and comment as GustManager, and for the command, enter /home/visitor/GuestManager/GuestManager.sh, where visitor would be the name you picked for the account in step 2. click add, then close
9. Delete all applets and extra toolbars (might want to leave the main gnome menu), and set the background to black or something else bland, and log out. Since this account is just a "booster" none of these toolbars and such will be needed, so removing them saves memory and load time.
I had the bug for a Boxee system. After looking at a bunch of different small HTPC options, I settled on the Zotac ZBOXHD-ND22-U system. Highlights of the box: Dual-core 1.2 Ghz CULV CPU ION chipset, handles up to 8GB of DDR3 (PC3-8500) 2.5" SATA bay
6xUSB2 ports, front SD slot HDMI port, supporting up to 7.1 audio
After a good bit of research, I opted to install Maverick instead of Lucid, since Maverick includes the required ALSA 1.0.23 release. This isn't an utterly complete cookbook. I'm doing this from memory... Here's what I did, roughly in order:
1. Install Maverick via a USB stick (built with Unetbootin). I selected Maverick x86, so I wouldn't have to muck around with the whole 32-bit flash on amd64 business, particularly in an embedded environment.
2. Removed gdm - we'll be booting directly into Boxee here. aptitude remove gdm, also let it remove the dependencies. Later, I went back and removed extraneous packages, like all of the gnome desktop stuff. Seemed fairly pointless to keep it around.

I want to play around my .bashrc file, but I can't seem to find a general guide to customizing it. I just want a guide that will show me examples and explain them in-depth.
Does anyone where to find one?
Are Installation Guides available for download?
