Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Wireless - Wired Network Card Has Died On Me Prior To Installation

Sep 12, 2010

I just installed Lucid Lynx on my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop. The problem I'm having is that my wired network card has died on me prior to installation. I'm having the hardest time finding the required files to make my Broadcom BCM4311 wireless card work without being able to download any packages from the web. If anyone knows which files I need and which order I should use to install them that would be great.

Fedora Networking :: 14 Can't Connect To SpeedTouch 585 - Either Wireless Broadcom Card Or The Wired Ethernet Card

Dec 4, 2010

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell Vostro 3500 / Broadcom STA Wireless - Wired Network

Mar 31, 2011

I just got a new laptop...Dell Vostro 3500. Took off Win put on Ubuntu...all went fine. I did all updates and app downloads using my WIRED NETWORK as wireless wasnt working. However I was more interested in setting up the new computer. Anyway so after all is installed up pops "Broadcom STA Wireless driver" Proprietary driver do you want to install. Obviously I said yes...

Well now My wireless is working great but for some reason my Wired (auto eth0) no longer works. It just says disconnected and its grayed in. I'm pretty much a newbie but did try a few things like:

apt-get update
apt-get "something" essential (thats not a command just from memory it was something like that)

However I've had no luck. This Broadcom driver seems to have knocked out my wired network.

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 Management Of Network Card / Wired/wireless Setup?

May 1, 2011

I am facing a problem with the management of my network card after installing Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit Desktop edition.

There are two Network Cards and one USB adapter which I'd like to drive:

- Ethernet controller Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)
- Ethernet controller Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
- Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter

Actually I need the wireless adapter to connect to the AP, so both of the ethernet card should be disabled. Infact, when I try to access to the AP I must disable the eth0 card by using (sudo ifconfig eth0 down), otherwise the route assigns the default gw (192.168.1.1) to the eth0 device and the network is useless.

General :: Lost (wired) Eth0 After Installing Broadcom Bcm4328 Wireless Card / What To Do?

Dec 31, 2009

I have a dell mp1210 xps laptop. I just recently installed installed Ubuntu 9.10 and am very green. With difficulty I managed to install the drivers for the wireless card and now have wireless on the laptop. In order to get the wireless working I had to restart my computer, and once it booted up again the wireless works, but there is no trace of eth0-my wired network device (Broadcom BCM4401-B0) which was working fine before I got the wireless adapter working. Lspci still shows the device as it did when it was functioning, but ifconfig only shows my local loopback and wlan0 (my wireless device). I am not sure how eth0 got deleted, I am wondering if maybe I have to set up some sort of switching between the wired and wireless adapters so they are not both active at the same time. Any suggestions would be really nice, I have been digging through the forums, but I am unsure of what went wrong or what to do about it.

So basically, complete linux noob here, dual-booted fedora 13 with windows 7, and fedora can't seem to detect either my wired or wireless, however i don't really care about the wired. After spending a few hours browsing forums and tutorials and the like, seems as if it is a driver issue, as in there is none. I have managed to find the files :

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Died After Connecting To Wireless Network?

Jul 9, 2011

I have a wireless router, but my desktop computer is connecting to it, or maybe to the modem, by an Ethernet cable. It has a built-in wireless card, so just as an experiment, I tried to connect to my network wirelessly. It didn't work. And not only did I not get any internet connection, I can't get any internet through the wired connection either. The internet works fine with Windows Vista (I'm dual-booting), as well as when I boot up Backtrack off of a Live DVD. I can still access my router's config page by going to 192.168.2.1 on a web browser, but I can't access anything else.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 Network Card Randomly The Network Connection On The Server Will Stop Working?

Jan 29, 2011

I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.

I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?

Fedora Networking :: Install Broadcom Wireless Card On 11?

After Fedora installation I got a problem that I cannot connect to my wireless network I used to using Xp, I think that my wireless card is not installed on Fedora because when I checked in the network configuration I found that the only installed adapter is the Ethernet Realtek for the wired connection.

My OS is Fedora 11.

The CPU Model name is : Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T8300 @2.40 GHz, so I think that my architecture is x86_64.

My Network controller is : Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g

If the card isn't compatible with 9.10 is it compatible with later versions of Ubuntu? Marking this as somewhat urgent as I need to get internet access for some coursework soon, and also because my parents will kill me if they find out I've done anything unusual with the laptop because it's new and they think anything non -MS is a virus.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom 4401 Ethernet: No "Wired Connections" Showing Up In Network Manager?

Apr 10, 2011

I've been struggling with this a bit now, and I'm not sure what the problem is. I have a laptop with a BCM4401 Ethernet card as well as a BCM4311 Wireless card. The wireless card works great out of the box, I'm able to connect with it perfectly. The problem is the ethernet card. Here is the situation: The NetworkManager menu doesn't list "Wired Networks" at all (ie. it doesn't say "not managed", it just only lists Wireless networks) Going into Network Connections, there is an "Auto eth0" entry ifconfig shows eth0 (which I assume means NetworkManager isn't managing eth0) I have edited /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf to say managed=true I have edited /etc/network/interfaces to remove any mention of eth0 (all that's left is the "lo" lines) So I'm not sure why eth0 is still showing up when I run ifconfig, and why Network Manager is not managing it. Any ideas?

Edit: Not sure what I did but now ifconfig spits out this:

Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1c:26:2c:60:75
inet addr:10.0.1.12 Bcast:10.0.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::21c:26ff:fe2c:6075/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

[Code]...

The MAC address of the "Auto eth0" entry is 00:1C:23:8F:D4:39, the same as the eth1 entry that ifconfig spits out.

Slackware :: Get A Report Of The Broadcom 440x Wired Card Working?

Apr 19, 2010

I'm running slackware 12.2 and I have yet to get the b44 kernel driver working with 2.6.27.31 (custom build, b44 compiled in). Does it require a firmware cutter (ex. b43-fwcutter)? Does it work in later kernel versions out-of-the-box?

On a second note, if it is better supported in later kernels, would it be problematic to upgrade kernels (for instance, anything other than just building the new kernel via instructions in the Slackbook)?

I have searched many times but just have come across "it should work" which it doesn't, at least here...

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network Card Not Detecting Lan Cables?

Dec 8, 2010

I have a 64 bit install of Ubuntu 10.04, I was surfing up to 11:30pm EST last night, shut down for the night, upon reboot am unable to connect to the internet or my local network. Ubuntu seems to think that I have no ethernet cables connected. My networking is controlled by my motherboard (Gigabyte P55A-UD4P) and the problem is not on my cable modems side. The modem has multiple wired jacks, all of them are unresponsive with my Ubuntu PC while my roommate can connect to all of them with his Windows 7 PC. Both network cables (the one connecting to his box and the one connecting to mine) are interchangeable: They both work on his and neither on mine, so there is no broken cable.I've followed the troubleshooting in other posts, here are some commonly requested diagnostics:

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Network Card - WiFi Light Stays On All The Time ?

Dec 13, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 online today. I was using 10.04 32-bit before, and the network drivers were easy to find and install. Ubuntu did the job for me and they worked flawlessly. It was a relief I didn't need to search around.

Even though 10.10 (64bit) found the drivers for me, both ethernet and wireless, they do not seem to be working alright. I installed both, made a restart. I found that the WiFi light on my laptop stays on, even if the wireless network is turned off using either the key combination (Fn+F2), or manually turning it off.

Issues with the ethernet? I am right now using ethernet but it does not care to detect the connection. Empathy won't connect automatically as a result- says no network connection. But here I am, posting this. Evidently, there is a connection, right?

Issues with the wireless? The WiFi light stays on all the time, and it isn't able to get hang of the connection I have at home. It just won't show any wireless connections available. When I tried to connect by giving it the SSID and the encryption type and password, it didn't work. Just kept asking for the password again and again (I have checked with the router- the password is correct).

Fedora Networking :: HP Mini 110 Broadcom Wireless - Can't Get The Card To Turn On Using The Slide Switch

Sep 11, 2009

I have an HP mini 110 with Fedora 11 install. I installed the broadcom-wl and wl-kmod from yum but still no wireless. First I can't get the broadcom card to turn on using the slide switch on the front of the computer. The device is inactive in the network configuration-devices window. The card is not in the network configuration hardware window. When I try to add it manually, there is no entry for the card in the drop down list. I am new to Fedora but have used linux for years. Unfortunately this is my first attempt at wireless networking.

The posts and google stuff doesn't say much more than "yum install broadcom-wl" Can anyone point me into the right direction? I have a feeling I am missing something very simple, because this computer dual boots Linux Mint and wireless works flawlessly.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless To Wired Network Bridge

May 3, 2010

I am running ubuntu 9.10 on a dell xps m1530 laptop dual booting with windows 7. I am trying to achieve the following setup.

Wireless router <=========> Laptop <-----> Switch <-----> PS3

---- wired
==== wireless

Both laptop and ps3 have static ip addresses

The reason for this is I can connect to the internet on my ps3 through my laptop, and I can stream from my laptop to ps3 through wired connection. This works fine in windows 7 all I had to do was right click bridge connections. As I dual boot I don't want to have to make any changes to the settings on the ps3.

My interfaces are:
eth0 - wired
wlan0 - wireless

I installed bridge-utils and created a bridge and added both eth0 and wlan0 to it. However I could not get it to work. I have also tried internet sharing through network manager and firestarter.
