View 6 RepliesDoes anybody got Creative Live Ultra VF0060 web cam worked on Ubuntu 10.04.2? This one got recognized by system when I use lsusbs. But either cheese or some other software doesn't recognize that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a "Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Ultra Vision" web cam with a microphone. I have successfully installed it, I can get fedora to recognize it and even view video through all the web cam applications I've tried including vlc, cheese, and camstreem. It was automatically detected by Fedora and took no "tweaking" of my own. The problem I'm having is I don't know how to access the audio. When I go to the pulse audio applet or volume contol (mixer) I can see my quick cam as in input, and I can even watch the audio meter move and respond to sounds I am making. But I don't know how to tell any applications where to get sound from... my video source is /dev/video0, what is my audio source? Since my audio level meter moves when i say things or make sounds, I assume it is there and ready, I just don't know how to access it. I figure this should be pretty simple. I'd like to be able to record video/audio, or even just use the mic separately.

I'm new to the linux thing. I've just installed Ubunto 10.04 on my Dell Studio (Core i7, 8Gb RAM).Whenever I boot Windows now, it takes AGES. Atleast about 10 minutes to be fully operational with decent speed of app loading. I know it's mentioned in the Ubuntu documentation that booting will slow "a little bit" but my 4-months old semi decent computer is now behaving a bit like my Commodore 64 used to when it was on tape drive
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo, I've got as far as partitioning the hard disks on my Sun Ultra 450 Enterprise system, but it always fails with:
SILO (Sparc Linux Loader) can only boot the kernel off of a disk with the "sun" partition table. In the current partitioning scheme the kernel is going to be installed on the /boot partition located on a disk with the partition table of type "msdos".
What is this error message trying to say in its ambiguous way?
I selected automatic partitioning, but it got me to the same place as manual partitioning before it failed in the same way.
I installed four used hard drives in this system - they may have come from PCs for all I know. However, they are SCSI SCA drives, which makes it hard for me to believe they came from a PC environment.
If they did, do I need to to a low-level (or high-level) format of these drives to wipe out the "msdos"ness of them? If so, how do I do that in the SILO installer?
Well, today I've installed 11.04 on my laptop. Fresh install.I'm getting the following temps (idle)

I have successfully installed Debian on a Sparc Ultra5, 270MHz SparcIIi CPU, 384MB RAM, 40GB HD. However, once Debian tries to load Gnome (right before the login screen) the screen goes blank, and so the machine becomes unusable. I booted of the NetInstall CD, into rescue mode, and executed a shell, but apparently there is currently a problem when running nano from a live CD, so I can not edit the xorg.conf file when I boot the live CD. So, I would like to just boot the install into single user mode, but I dont know how. Currently, when the Ultra5 is powered on, it tries to boot with command "boot", so I hit "Stop A". From there I type "boot Disk1" to boot Debian normally. To boot from a CD, I would type "boot cdrom" So any idea on how I can boot from Disk1 in Single User Mode?
My only other idea is to hook up another monitor I have which may be able to deal with whatever resolution Gnome is defaulting to. However, Id rather just boot into single user mode.
I have setup a Sun Ultra 2 with Debian 6. It currently has dual 200MHz sparc I CPUs, 512MB RAM, and a Creator 3D 15MB video card. I have in the mail on its way to me dual 300MHz sparc II CPUs and enough RAM to max this thing out at 2GB. Anyway, I am currently having an issue configuring xorg.conf. The only resolution available to me is 1152x900 (which isnt even a supported resolution by my monitor), but Id like to use 1280x1024. I have tried for probably over a week now to no avail. I will paste my current xorg.conf file (the relevant parts), and please keep in mind that I have been messing with this file for a while so sorry if it looks bad.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn an attempt to install specific video drivers for the Intel 845 chipset, I followed the instructions here: http://www.downloadatoz.com/driver/a...ntu-10-04.html
Now, the system will only boot in recovery mode, and then at 640x480 resolution. When booting, it gives the option to return to default or manually configure, but if I try to select either option and click OK, nothing happens. Once in the GUI, it shows no proprietary hardware drivers installed. Is there a way to roll back the changes I made, or return to more default settings without reinstalling the OS?
I have small home atom-server on netbook (with damaged screen) with Intel Atom N450 1.6Ghz CPU and 1GB of RAM. I am looking for web server, that would not eat much resources when hosting wordpress blog (up to 50-100 readers at once in veeeeeery far future) - posts in most cases will be only text based, without big images or archives (I'm not sure if it is important). The brain of my atom-server is latest 32-bit ubuntu server, without X's, I access it from ssh console only. It is already:
- proxy gate for my internal network (squid)
- my gmail backup/IMAP (dovecot & getmail)
- file server for my internal network (samba)

I have Bolutek BTD-6610 Ultra long range dongle. It supports only 7 simultaneously connections. I'm using Fedora core 14. Can you recommend me another ultra long range dongle with more than 7 simultaneously connections.
I' mean is there dongle which support 50 or 100 simultaneously connections and supports Linux?
I'm running a Geforce FX 5900 Ultra with nvidias 173.14.27 driver. I'm running slackware 13.1 with kernel 2.6.35.5.
I get a horrible slowdown which is noticeable in emulators such as bsnes and kega fusion. I also think it's responsible for other issues that involve zsnes flickering like mad and hanging. Zsnes will actually crash if I select any filter plugins with opengl output modes.
Kega Fusion slows down to a crawl (we're talking 10 fps) immediately before loading a rom. Playing a rom makes it even slower.
Bsnes has the same kinda slowdown as kega fusion (even worse since it's so cpu intensive) when I activate scanlines or any type of output filter with opengl. Otherwise with no filters and just plain opengl it seems to run fast like it should...
Gens-GS doesn't seem to enable any filters in fullscreen mode... They work however in windowed mode with no slowdown issues...
I've compiled and installed SDL 1.3 from hg repository, then recompiled bsnes just to test it with newer SDL. Unfortunately the problem persists even with a newer SDL version which thankfully for me means I can revert to the older stock SDL without having to recompile everything else haha!
It's funny because I thought these issues were related to the emulators and not the video card drivers. I had these issues for a couple years running ubuntu and trying other distros. When I installed Slackware 13.1 I decided to try my Radeon 9700 pro and kega fusion no longer had this slowdown issue! I switched back to my Geforce and installed nvidia's drivers and immediately had slowdown issues... I'm gonna switch back to the radeon card and test the other emulators but otherwise it'd be nice to know if there's a solution to this issue...
Ok I installed my radeon card: nvidia-installer --uninstall, then updated xf86-video-ati from 6.13.0 to 6.13.2. Even though kega fusion runs fine I get even worse problems with everything else! LOL so I'm going back to my geforce card.
I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 and I am experiencing an ultra high memory usage of the gnome-settings-daemon of 2GB after suspend! Killing and restarting the daemon solves the issue. Anybody else with this behavior?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an opensuse 11.3 install which I want to set up as a network boot server to install Solaris 10 on a Sun Ultra 10 client. According to what I've read, this requires rarpd and tftpd which I've set up on opensuse, but also bootparamd which I can't find for 11.3. It seems it was last included with opensuse 9.2. Does anyone know if it's available, if I could use the suse 9.2 version, or any alternative?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI booted my Fedora 13 live CD on my Dell server, and configured networking and SSHd. On my desktop I logged into the live cd and started copying over a big file (1.5 GB) (i.e. copying from the desktop computer to the server). After copying about half the fil, the download fails with an error message about the filesystem being read-only.I've seen this exact same behavior on both i386 and x86_64 of the same live CD, but don't know why it's happening. I've also had the same issue when copying small files. In /var/log/messages these messages are repeated many times:

I've recent begun to want to create a spin of Fedora for my high school to offer as an alternative to Mac OS X and Windows. My first attempt with any distro was to try and use Suse Studio, however nothing with packages that I downloaded myself would successfully compile. I then thought that I might try and use some sort of local program do create it with and tried Revisor, however when I made Live Media, Xorg wouldn't start and when I made DVD Install Media the kernel would kernel panic every time on boot.
Is there anyway to solve the problem with Revisor or are there any alternatives?
I have also tried using Ubuntu with the Ubuntu Customization Kit however that didn't work either considering I have to have it in a virtual machine.
I just wanted to upgrade to fedora 11 from the current version 5 with the of a live cd.I dont want to loose the previous configuration files. upgrade everything except the / directory. How do you do that? I also have a retarded WINXP partition on the same drive which I dont wanna loose.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to find this anywhere. I have burned Debian 5.06 for i386 and trying to login when running the live cd. What is the username and password to get in?
edit....
I found 'user' and 'live' but they don't work.
I need aufs support/patch for kernel 2.6.34.1 as i i need to create a live linux distro for my organization and linux live scripts (the scripts which I am using for creating live linux distro) require aufs and squashfs support. There is a directive for squashfs in kernel configuration file but nothing for aufs and the patch available at linux-live site seems not to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've done a good few ubuntu installations for friends and colleagues and now my Dad wants in on the action. His PC is more than capable of running ubuntu 32 bit BUT I've hit a brick wall I've never come across before. I've burnt a CD image of the 10.04 iso from [URL] on my ubuntu box and for some reason, his PC just won't boot from it. If I select the option to manually select the boot source, all I see is the hardware monitor telling me things like CPU temperature. As for the Live USB - nothing whatsoever. Is it possible that I've managed to corrupt the iso file somehow?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLive CD: I dowloaded the ISO, burned it to CD, booted from this CD. It starts to load and I can see the purple background with the loading icons. Everything seems normal. But instead of ending up with the login screen, it ends up with a screen that says 'Please remove all bootup media and hit ENTER' or something like this. So I hit enter and then it shuts off my computer. That's it.
Live Stick: So I tried another option and created a stick with 'usb-creator.exe' that is on the CD. Then I start from that stick, but all I end up is a line of 'Syslinux bla bla copyright 20xx-2011'. That's it. Then it does nothing anymore. The cursor is blinking, but no prompt or whatsoever and keyboard input doesn't do anything.
Now something weird: When I insert Live CD and Live Stick at the same time and then boot my computer, then it boots into Ubuntu. Obviously it loads the first parts from CD and then the rest from stick. Because when I'm then in Ubuntu and try to format the stick, it says it can't do so, because there's system files from that stick in use.
I just downloaded OpenSuse 11.1 64 bit live cd from it's official site.I have live usb creater in my xp box , with the help of which I successfully created live USB for fedora 11 earlier. Now the problem is whenever I try to create live usb using Opensuse live ISO image after extracting all files to usb , it gets failed. The same thing is happening with OpenSolaris 11 live cd iso image. Does this mean that live usb creater I have, was only foe Fedora distros?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new laptop--Toshiba, AMD processor and ATI video card, i think--and i can't get Linux installed! With Fedora, the Fedora icon appears, first pure white, then it fills in, and finally the Fedora icon shows properly, but it doesn't go any further than that. I woke up in the morning and found it hadn't made any progress since last night. The same story for booting with USB or CD.When i press ESC, the screen goes black with the fallowing text:udevd-work[196]: '/sbin/modprobe -b acpi:LNXVIDEO:' unexpected exit with status 0x0009
I am under the impression that live versions of Linux don't mess with the video card since the drivers may not be installed, and so i believe that this has nothing to do with my ATI card. Is this correct?I also tried to install Ubuntu, but the problem there was that it would spew text on to the screen, resembling in my mind a call stack, and would seem to freeze on this line:[2.473359] [<c0104087>] kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x10I almost don't care what distro i end up using, but Fedora is indeed my favorite thus far. So, the most appreciated help would be for getting Fedora working, but if anyone can suggest another distro, that is acceptable.
Using live CD to check out Fedora10 on WindowsVista, IntelPentiumDual E2180, NTFS. Used Power2Go (default program) to burn ISO to CD. Shouldn't be the problem as I used it to download Fedora6 and those work fine. Downloaded and burned twice in case problem was faulty CD. Boot hangs up after initial screen indicates VMlinuz and image are loading, and graphic progress bar runs through. I get blank screen with blinking cursor, I can enter text all I want to. but no response to any commands. When I exit, shut down screen displays messages that look like I was totally running a linux system.
P.S. Found solution in other forum, press esc during progress bar load, now boot hangs up after loading cups.Going to check out boot edit options on wiki.
