Today i am trying to learn how to use sed. I set up a testing folder with the following files:
AAb.lol
AAc.lol
AAx.lol
test.sh
My goal is to create a script (test.sh) which renames all the files to their original name without AA. I want to end up with this:
b.lol
c.lol
x.lol
test.sh
sed seemed to be the perfect tool so i went ahead and created a script which i think should clear the job.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was about to do upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4.I was following the guide I found in opensuse's website. I was to the point where I had to disable all 11.3 repositories and add the 11.4 at that point I forgot to change my nvidia repository ( I have a g210m graphic card).
thus after the upgrade the X could not start at all. I think this was because Yast could not find the nvidia driver.
Using text mode YaSt2 I added the nvidia driver but after restart I can not see and X running. I receive an error message that the current kernel can not be loaded!!!
I also checked in command line if there is something like Sax2.. but I couldnot find anything.
I got some sourcecode written with c++. I found it did not supported by the newer version of gcc. So I wanted to install an older version. But it always comes up with the question like "./read-rtl.c:653: error: lvalue required as increment operand", what should I do now?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to write a simple app that is huge in size (256 MB) but I can only got it up to 31 MB and got compiler error if I went greater than 32 MB. /tmp/cc7Ax35n.s:246: Error: operand out of range (0x02000004 is not between 0xfe000000 and 0x01ffffff).
I tried to change ulimit -l and -s options but it didn't help. Does anyone know why I got the compiler error and how to fix it? I am running RHEL 5.4.

I just installed OS 11.4 this morning. Was previously on CentOS. I chose to have it import the partition & raid setup during install. Now when it boots it hangs with
"Could not find /dev/disk/by-label //" "Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by_id/ata-ST(lots of drive stuff) -part2 (Y/n)" If I just hit ENTER at that point the boot will go on and it runs fine, but it stalls every time with that same error on boot. I did quite a bit of searching with Google and here (the search here considers every word in the error message to be too short or too common).
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 for the first time. The plan is to create a 10Gig partition on which i would put Fedora and leave Vista on the other partition. I have successfully done this however when i reboot to try and get to VISTA i am seeing an error message saying that BootyMgr is missing....Can you help me with this?

Now at startup an error message occurs instead of booting ubuntu (BOOTMGR is missing. Press Cntrl+alt+delete to restart). I searched a little bit and found that may be I need to install GRUB (boot loader). how do i install grub? using "fdisk -l" .. I found out that my bootable partition is C drive (NTFS /dev/sda1) while ubuntu is installed on another partition (ext3 /dev/sda3)!

The hard drive is 250 gb: Vista boot 157 gb partition; a partially-occupied 33 gb partition which was designated as swap-space; a newly partitioned and ext3 formatted 30gb for the Ubuntu installation. I believe there is also a hidden partition ~20 gb with "hidden" system info. During installation I received an error message concerning the swap space partition, which forced me out of the installation and back to the ubuntu partition manager screen. Now in Vista my 33 and 30 gb partitions are missing. Is there anyway I can get back to pre-Ubuntu state?

When I login into my normal user account under runlevel 3, the following error message is printed to the screen:

I'm not sure where this is being generated. I don't see the same error message when I login using root.
I installed OS11.4 on my old laptop, Compaq Armada E500., 512MB RAM, ATI Rage Mobility. During installation I chose "minimal server" and added some development packages, lxde and a little more. I chose to start in runlevel 3 which is full networking without X. Still, when computer is booted it tries to start Xorg which doesn't work because of some problem w driver. The start-up seems to stop there, it never loads completely - seems most things in runlevel 3 are not started (see below) I can manually login on laptop and fix it - but never permanently, same thing again after reboot.
I have checked /etc/inittab & yast - both states default runlevel is 3. I have checked services to be started both directly, browsing directory /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/, and with YaST, it is very clear X should not load during boot. But, as said, it does.. I don't really care about the driver problem right now, I can fix that later when I have more time. So how do I stop X from getting started automatically?
More info, if needed: The installation also stopped with message on tty1 "Starting YaST2" and tty8 showing errors with graphics driver (mach64). The system seemed to be installed though, so I simply rebooted (issuing "reboot" from tty2).

I'm not completely sure where it stops, network is configured but keyboard is wrong and mysql & everything after is not started, so somewhere between S02network and S06kbd. I'm going to use it as a server for testing purposes so no X is actually needed - however I do want to have X & lxde installed just in case, my Internet connection at home is terribly slow so I need most things I might need in the future installed today.

I've got a compile error which says that 'javac' is missing.. this file seems to be only in the JDK package (and not in the JRE).

I am currently running slackware 12.2 on a 25 GB partition. I like to use slackbuilds, but when I try to compile larger tarballs (like abiword, or a patched version of Ghostscript as I did today) I receive an error-message: 'Not enough space left on device'. I think the size of the partition must be big enough (I never got this message when compiling with Linux From Scratch). I think it has something to do with the size of my /tmp directory, but I don't know how to fix this. Is there a way to solve the problem, so that I could be able to use slackbuild-scripts?

Whenever this happened, my screen changes to "1024x768" resolution when normally it is "1280x800". I click on "Configure", a "Configure Display" windows appear and I have to change the screen to Size"1280x800" back (since it would give me 1024x768"). Besides, the number of error messages will be up to 50s, 60s message. (This "Configure Display" is what you get when you go to "Application->System->"Screen Resize and Rotate" (KRandRTray)) My computer is Toshiba Satellite L500, the distro is Slackware 13.37. It was just installed so all the configuration is out of the box.

The laptop is running gentoo linux. Here is the fstab file and instead of having "boot" on its own partition I decided to have both "/" and "boot" in the same partition. This has never caused any problems before so I don't understand what the problem is now.
