I have attempted to install Opera by downloading the Deb file and running:
Code:
sudo dpkg -i oopera_10.10.4742.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb
The installation appears to complete itself successfully. However, when I come to then clicking on the new Opera logo in the panel menu, nothing happens. Even after a restart.
What could I be doing wrong? How should I launch Opera?

First of all I want to tell you that I'm not used to working with fedora so don't exlude 'noob solutions' out of your answers.I've downloaded the latest opera from their site and tried to install it. When I did this using the given script it asked me to install it in the base directory /usr/ . I had my doubts but I agreed. (Does it have to be installed in the root directory? / )Now when I trie to run it, I receive the following message:
[Kurt@localhost ~]$ opera
/usr/bin/opera: line 240: /usr/lib/opera/10.10/opera: cannot execute binary file
/usr/bin/opera: line 240: /usr/lib/opera/10.10/opera: Success

I have opera 10.10 and I tried to install java to access some banking in so many ways. I got a headache: I uninstalled java, reinstalled it, uninstalled openjdk, reinstalled opera, enabled plugins, enabled java at the opera: config and operalugin, put the path to the plugin on the advanced tab.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Lucid in my Apple iBook of course powerpc architecture and due to firefox's cruel treat on my CPU, I want to install opera which I am told is a bit lightweiht and friendly on CPU.I tried sudo "apt-get install opera" and I got "the package opera does not have an installation candidate .... and so forth....", I visited the opera for powerpc download page and I couldn't see Ubuntu among the listed OS'ses. I am not sure what to do? Is their an option coz I love firefox but my iBook wont stand it without the 100% CPU usage.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Mepis 11 alpha 2 and am using the gnome desktop. I downloaded the appropriate version of Opera. When I try to install it using dpkg -i, it wont allow it because I do not have permission in either "user" or "root" desktop. I tried to edit sudoers file but it it doesn't seem to work. I can't use sudo because I am not in sudoers file and I cannot edit sudoers file because I do not have sudo permission. When I am in root desktop, I still do not have permission even to read sudoers file. How do I install Opera?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm bring up a new Fedora 14 server, retiring my Solaris 10 x86 server. While I'm waitng for SATA cables to arrive for the RAID configuration, I decided to try and install opera (which I've been using for years and years). I downloaded the opera-10.11.gcc4.shared.qt3.x86_64.rpm. But, when I try and install it, I get the following problem (rpm -i):
[Code]...
opera-11.11-2109.i386.rpm
From opera's webpage. Installed with double-click. Asked for root permissions... the standard way of installing. Neither CLI 'opera' nor the GUI's menu -> internet -> opera does anything!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded wubi.exe from Opera 10.61. The file downloads ok, but then refuses to do anything when I click on the file.
I also switched to my IE version, and tried to run the file from there. Again, I get the hourglass symbol for a couple of seconds, then nothing.
I'm running Windows 98. I know, I should have a newer version, but finances can't manage that right now. In the meantime, is there a manual way to run the installer for wubi and get it to work?
I am using Opera 10.60 browser for the past one month. Generally it use to take about 20 seconds to startup but since yesterday its taking more than 40. I don't know about the exact duration but certainly its taking a lot of time now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI updated Opera to:
Version 10.60 Internal
Build 6386
Platform Linux
System x86_64, 2.6.32.12-115.fc12.x86_64
Now, web pages are displayed with a "crease" in them. This is a horizontal section where a small part of the page is missing. There is often a white line across the screen there. The same pages that have this problem under Opera are displayed correctly using Firefox.
Is there a simple fix for this problem or is it part of the improvments to the new version of opera?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Fedora 12 i386 using CD#1 for a minimal install. For that during installation I selected only Base. For some reason when I started installation it was trying to install 432 packages (Base has got about 80 or so packages). i can understand there might be some dependencies, but really that much? I kept going with the installation of 432 packages, but it finally failed on gtk2-immodule-xim-2.18.3-19.fc12.i686.rpm.I need just minimal install, so I can install LXDE later on by myself.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have been using Redhat/Fedora for 11 years. I don't understand why Fedora 11, can't even do a vga graphical install, when Windows can.
I tried many parameters, including xdriver=vesa, and it cannot used graphical install.
So, I tried text install, which I have done many times in the past.
However, F11 seems crippled, in that it will NOT do the same install achievable from a graphical install.
It will NOT allow the use of fdisk, and it will NOT allow any selection of any packages.
What is the point of this option?
Even after trying all of this, for a dual boot install, and F11 claims to have installed, there is no grub or equivalent, and the computer just boots windows, just like Fedora 11 did absolutely nothing.
What are the options now? Why is text install so crippled and incomplete? Why is standard VGA mode so hard?
I don't have a working DVD burner. I'd like to transfer the FC12 install DVD image to a USB thumb drive, and install from there. Is that reasonably easy to do?ow would I transfer the .iso file for the install image to the USB thumb drive in such a way that I could boot from i
