OpenSUSE :: Opera 10.61 - Cannot Add Newsgroups
Aug 15, 2010
I like to add a Newsgroup but it seem that I can't. Is this correct? I did a look up but found nothing really to this issue. Anyway, I just need to know if this is the case. I am using 10.61.

Ia anyone using P.A.N (Usnet newsreader)? Natty comes with version 0.133. After installing Natty and since the most recent updates, Pan no longer works. It keeps "connecting". Other internet apps (Empathy, Firefox, Chrome), so it's not my internet connection.I even deleted the hidden ./pan2 directory, and I can't even connect to download the newsgroups list.Is there a deb package for 1.34? Nothing newer for 1.33 shows up in the Update Manager.Failing this, are there any other linux newsreaders that handles binaries? AFAIK, Pan seems to be the only one, but I may be wrong in that assumption

I have Mandriva 10 installed on 2 computers. On one I have just installed Pan 0.133 newsreader successfully and am able to scroll through newsgroups and download. On the other I cannot figure how to find newsgroups. I tried uninstalling and re-installing to see if I would get a chance during install but no. I can't remember how I got them on the 'successful' machine.

I want to subscribe to newsgroups pertaining to Linux in Thunderbird. To configure the subscription Thunderbird asks me to enter the server name for the newsgroups, but I don't know any server name serving newsgroups for Linux.

Suse 11.1 opera 10. When I shut down opera browser I assume it should shut down completely? Infact sometimes it does, but often it just goes to sleep (futex_wait). Any way to make it shutdown/kill itself every time ???

I've performed a new installation of openSUSE 11.3 and I see a lag while starting Opera - close to 10 - 15 seconds.... I didn't have a similar issue with 11.2.... I notice this not only in KDE but in Gnome as well.... This happens only with Opera and not any other application.... These are the details about my Opera installation:
Code:
Version 10.60 Internal
Build 6386
Platform Linux
System x86_64, 2.6.34-12-desktop Can anyone else using Opera confirm if they're facing a similar issue.... If not I can submit the logs at Opera website to see what might be the problem...

Is there any plan to move Opera 11 to an openSUSE repo? It came out a few days ago and I'm wondering if it will be included in "non-oss" or in "updates"?

I've asked this on Opera's forum also with no replies yet. When ever I click on a url link, Opera insists on opening two additional identical tabs over what is already there. This happens whether Opera is open already or has to be started from scratch. The link could be in KMail, Akregator or even a link on an applications About box, it makes no difference. I have set Opera up as the default web browser and I am using the following command "opera %u"

I have opera 10.10 and I tried to install java to access some banking in so many ways. I got a headache: I uninstalled java, reinstalled it, uninstalled openjdk, reinstalled opera, enabled plugins, enabled java at the opera: config and operalugin, put the path to the plugin on the advanced tab.

When I tried to log in this morning I couldn't until I enabled Java scripts in my Opera browser. This must be something "new and improved". Could someone confirm this? I would prefer "old and lousy" rather than open up my computer to the world at large.

First of all I want to tell you that I'm not used to working with fedora so don't exlude 'noob solutions' out of your answers.I've downloaded the latest opera from their site and tried to install it. When I did this using the given script it asked me to install it in the base directory /usr/ . I had my doubts but I agreed. (Does it have to be installed in the root directory? / )Now when I trie to run it, I receive the following message:
[Kurt@localhost ~]$ opera
/usr/bin/opera: line 240: /usr/lib/opera/10.10/opera: cannot execute binary file
/usr/bin/opera: line 240: /usr/lib/opera/10.10/opera: Success

I get a error Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 881574DE gpg: Invalid option "--keyserver.ubuntu.com"
Where am I going wrong? And why is'nt there a 'ubuntu' installer that does this for you? Must this be done to every progarm I want to add?

I'm on ubuntu 10.04 32-bit desktop. Somehow Opera 10.60 is very slow to load. I just switched from FF to Opera, and (I'm pretty sure, might be dreaming though) that the first few days it was lightning fast.. and now it takes like 10+ secs to load any page.

I've just installed opera, copying over my sessions, history, cookies and so on over from SimplyMepis, and while it runs okay, there is only the 'file tab' available at the top of the screen as a pull down menu. I've noticed an applet at the top-right of my screen, which when right-clicked gives me a few options (downloads, history...), but this seems my lot. Where the heck is everything else? For one thing I want to restore a previous session.

I have a problem with Opera 11.10. I can't seem to uninstall it. There is no package related to it in Synaptics Package Manager. It isn't listed in the Software Center.
When I search for "opera" in Unity search it shows up and I can launch it. The launch command is "application://opera-browser.desktop/." but there is no file like that in /usr/share/applications folder.
Also, when I install Opera 11.50, then it installs separately and still launches 11.10 from the Unity search.

I've always used the repos at [URL] to get Opera both on Lenny and Squeeze.
So my sources.list has this line:
deb [URL] lenny non-free
But now I see these has not been updated since november 2009. Is there a newer repo somewhere? I know you can download opera from the opera website - but that is too much work when you have many computers to manage.

I just downloaded Opera, and I actually kind of like it and am thinking about making it my regular browser instead of Firefox. (I have version 10.10 by the way.) However, I can't check my Myspace account, because every time I sign in it tells me I need to enable Javascript to use the site. I have Javascript enabled in the site settings and global settings. Myspace worked fine until I randomly hit 'Mask as Firefox' for no real reason, and now it won't work, even though I have it set back to 'Identify as Opera,' the default setting.
