May 26, 2010When I upgraded to Lucid, Opera browser has stopped being shown in the Ubuntu software center. Do I have to go to the repository to get it?

May 31, 2010I have another opera browser problem,i upgraded to version 10.53 build 6330 last week. it keeps crashing the cpu goes to 100% and wont come down, i had this problem with the previous version but its a lot worse with the new version.
also noticed that when browsing ebay the scroll is very jerky until you get about a third of the way down the page then it scrolls ok again.
i get the feeling the crashes are something to do with the flash player.
i tried to uninstall flash but i cannot get it to uninstall .

Aug 10, 2011Today I added more fonts to ~/.fonts directory. I launched Opera and the fonts are gone funny [image attached]. I don't have this problem in Firefox of Google Chrome/Chromium. I changed fonts in Opera >> Preferences but to no avail. Also I deleted .opera directory. No joy. The only solution I've found is to delete .fonts directory (but I want those fonts for other applications).

So my sources.list has this line:

But now I see these has not been updated since november 2009. Is there a newer repo somewhere? I know you can download opera from the opera website - but that is too much work when you have many computers to manage.

Apr 18, 2010The thing is that flash sucks for linux on 64-bit, performance vice. Due to this I actually download every clip to a temp folder and play the file while it's being downloaded with mplayer. This works really nice. Flash is not to play a video. Does there exist a plugin for this for any browser? I tried google, but I can't find the right words to search for. Edit: I did find a plugin for playing wmp things, that is not what I'm asking for!

Feb 26, 2011I have Firefox and Chromium installed since last year on Ubuntu 10.10.Firefox is and has always been my Default Browser.Recently, the Ubuntu Software Center changed its mind on what to do when I click on the "website" link on software pages: it now opens the link in Chromium instead of Firefox.I want it back to opening links in Firefox.I suspect the last updates of Chromium to be responsible for this behavior.When I remove Chromium from my Ubuntu, the links open in Firefox. Reinstalling Chromium leads back to links opening in Chromium.
The Ubuntu menu System > Preferences > Preferred Applications shows that the default browser is Firefox.In Firefox, menu Tools > Preferences > Advanced > General > "Check now" tells me "Firefox is already set as your default browser".In Chromium, Preferences > Basic > Default Browser confirms that : "Chromium is not currently your default browser".I also changed the following setting from Chromium to Firefox (and restarted my computer) to not avail:

Jan 17, 2010After I've setup the ubuntu 9.10 I've found that the internet connection working incorrectly. I can ping or even connect to the internet sites with the telnet and see the raw html pages, but when I ran the software center or mozilla I have timeout error message. As a proxy settings I've setup the direct connection in both system and mozilla proxy configurations but it takes no reason. If I put the IP address instead of the domain name in the address bar of the mozilla browser then its loaded the web page correctly. It looks like this problem is relative to some system configuration of X about network (cause telnet google.com 80 working right). I'm using the dhcp connection to the D-Link DSL-504T router.

Sep 26, 2010I just reinstalled Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old problem has come back. For some reason I couldn't fix it even in my previous installation. The problem is the top gnome panel. See the photo below: As you can see, the network icon is not shown properly while the Me menu is being shown twice. I can't even restart or log out or shut down at this situation without pressing the keystroke to turn the power off.

Apr 18, 2010I like the way 10.04 lts is running on my old PC, except I can't seem to install my HP 895C. This printer worked on previous releases on Ubuntu. The printer is local and cabled to the PC's parallel port. But "Add" under printing doesn't show any parallel printers under local printers. Only shows serial port, other, and network printers. Is this because 10.04 is beta? "Troubleshooting printers" doesn't have a list of printers. Is the lpt1 in PC speak /dev/lp0 in Linux? Should that be the printer URI?

Ubuntu Installation :: 11.04 Install - No Grub Shown On Bootup
May 4, 2011Have just installed Ubuntu 11.04, the system is to dual boot with XP.Ubuntu is installed, have been into it and it seems to be working fine. However, when I bootup the computer I get no "Grub!" [Grub is now going to take over the boot process textual alert]. And, once the system gets past that screen, there is no list of Operating Systems to boot choices. Just boots straight into Ubuntu - always.
Solved that by installing 'Startup Manager' (which I knew about from slight previous exposure to Linux) and set the default operating system to Windows XP - this means that now I can't get into Ubuntu.How do I get Grub to show that 'Grub alert'? And how do I get Grub to offer choices of OS to boot in to?
Ubuntu Installation :: Opera 10.61 Windows Installer Doesn't Open
Dec 9, 2010I downloaded wubi.exe from Opera 10.61. The file downloads ok, but then refuses to do anything when I click on the file.
I also switched to my IE version, and tried to run the file from there. Again, I get the hourglass symbol for a couple of seconds, then nothing.
I'm running Windows 98. I know, I should have a newer version, but finances can't manage that right now. In the meantime, is there a manual way to run the installer for wubi and get it to work?

May 5, 2010I would like to install pymedia on my ubuntu 9.10 karmic distribution, but I am having a bit of a hard time doing that.I managed to install all the libraries (lame, libogg, libvorbis etc.) but when trying to run 'python setup.py build' I get an error (Shown at the end).I found on the interwebs that it may have to do with the version of gcc c++ compiler running (currently gcc-4.4) and that it only works with gcc-3.x. Therefore I downloaded gcc-3.4 (from the old jaunty archive), and with this one still no joy.NebelhomP.S. I am not a complete newcomer to linux and python but I am not an expert so it may happen that I ask questions with a very obvious answer.
