Red Hat / Fedora :: Configure Gateway To Access DVR From Internet

Sep 23, 2008

My Internet Gateway PC runs on Fedora 9, it has 2 network cards:
eth0=192.168.0.1 (inside)
eth1=192.168.1.2 (outside)
My ADSL modem ip is 192.168.1.1 (connected to eth1 above).
All my networked PCs static ip starts from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199, dynamic ip starts from 192.168.0.200 to 192.168.0.254, Gateway ip is 192.168.0.1.
Recently installed cctv with a DVR recorder. The DVR ip is 192.168.0.190, web port=1500, command port=9000, stream port=9001.
From internal networked PC, to access the DVR, we type in http://192.168.0.190:1500 (no problem to access).
From the Internet, to access the DVR, we type in [URL] (could not access at all). How to configure my Fedora 9 in order to access the DVR from the Internet?

General :: Get Internet Access Via Firefox On MachineB By Creating A Series Of SOCKS Proxy Via SSH?

Apr 8, 2010

I've been doing some security testing in a lab environment that does not have direct internet access. From home to connect to my lab machine, I

1. SSH to machineA.
2. SSH from machineA to machineB

where machineB is my actual lab machine. neither machineA or machineB allow anything other than SSH, and machineB is only accessible from machineA. However, I really need to run yum on machineB.I have managed to get internet access via Firefox on machineB by creating a series of SOCKS proxy via SSH.

1. machineB: ssh -L 12345:localhost:12345 user@machineA
2. machineA: ssh -D 12345 user@machineC
3. machineB: configure firefox to use socks proxy, localhost, 12345

where machineC has internet without limits placed. This is the only way I have managed to get internet working. I tried using ssh -L all the way from machineB->machineA->machineC but it didn't work (even when setting Firefox to use http proxy). I tried using ssh -D all the way, but again that doesn't work either. I do have access via Firefox using socks proxy. However, yum update fails to retrieve mirror list, and from what I have found I don't believe yum supports socks proxy directly. Instead, it uses http_proxy / ftp_proxy.how to get yum to go out over the SOCKS proxy I created (same one using in Firefox)? It seems like since Firefox can access the internet and everything without issues, i should be able to get yum to tunnel through the same connection to access everything.... I tried

>export http_proxy="http://localhost:12345"
(yum.conf) proxy="http://localhost:12345"

Ubuntu Networking :: No Internet Access Through The School Proxy Only For Ubuntu Users?

Jun 11, 2011

I have been using ubuntu for my college work for some time, and suddenly last week for ubuntu users in a specific Department/building lost the ability to connect to the internet through the school proxy.The problem seems to have effected only our department/building .

What is so annoying is even its the same computer we have internet if we use Windows but no internet for ubuntu.When using ubuntu the DHCP server automatically assigns IP's just as before, and we can reach the Default gateway using ping, but cant reach the proxy server. When we ping the proxy we get a message saying it refuses a connection. When using firefox or chrome we get the same message when we try to browse <proxy server not available>. The network guys says that the only change they did recently is to activate ipv6. But i fail to see how this can become a problem.

Fedora :: F11 Freeze Randomly When It Was Sitting Unused / Solution For It?

May 27, 2010

I thought I should share a solution to a freeze issue I was having. Fedora 11 was running well but then started to freeze randomly when it was sitting unused. This could happen multiple times per day. I would have to power off to get it to reboot. Firefox was always open at the time of freezes and I had recently loaded several programs to try and run wmv files....Xine, GStreamer. So, I unloaded the programs. I also went into Firefox options and removed Xine as the default program for opening different types of files. The freeze issue is now cured. I have no idea how this caused the freeze and I never did get wmvs to run but at least the freeze issue seems gone.

Fedora :: Cannot Fully Access Repositories Behind Proxy ?

Jul 2, 2010

I have a problem accessing repositories behind my proxy. Another problem, I have no access for that installation right now, but I do remember what I did.

First, this is fresh install Fedora 13 with KDE. I manually added IP, subnet mask, DNS, to network manager. Then, manually added proxy settings to SystemSettings/ NetworkSettings/ Proxy. After that,

Also, in /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repos and i686.repos (I mean, Core repositories and Standard one) I commented out "fedora" address line, and uncommented "mirror".

Now I can, for example, yum install wine, but yum install unrar fails totally (not found), and yum install mc (midnight commander) shows error, where I can copy address or rpm, and make localinstall then.

General :: PPPOE Server Access Internet Clients Fail To Access Internet

Aug 26, 2010

I have a linux box (fedora) with two ethernet cards eth1 and eth2. On eth1 I successfully configured a PPPOE internet connection. Such that from the server I can browse the internet. On eth2 I wired it to a wireless router essentially to provide the wireless cloud. On eth2 I also configured dhcp, such that the Linux box is both PPPOE and DHCP server.However my clients on the LAN cannot access the Internet.

On passing the routing command I get
Destination Gateway Iface
196.44.x.y 0.0.0.0 ppp0
192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 eth2 (my subnet)
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 ppp0.

The router (functioning as a wireless access point mainly) has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.2 and eth2 has IP address 192.168.1.1. The dhcp file running on Linux has been set with option router (Gateway) 192.168.1.1. I cannot figure out how to correctly set the routing table such that my clients on wireless can access the internet cloud. I googled and googled but no solid solution. Any suggestions?

I have a question to masters of Apache. In my operating system (CentOS 5) I have installed two Apaches. One is Apache (port 80) from repository where I planning to configure proxy and second one is Apache integrated(port 8090) with KnowledgeTree software. The problem is that when I am trying to configure proxy reverse it simply doesn't work.

This is link to KnowledgeTree software:
- http://127.0.0.1:8090/knowledgeTree

This link I would like to rewrite with proxy like this:
https://myserver.com/knowledgeTree
(HTTPS dont forget)

In my ssl.conf in VirtualHost part I have created something like this:
Code:
<IfModule mod_proxy.c>
<Proxy *>
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Proxy>

ProxyRequests off
ProxyPass /knowledgeTree http://127.0.0.1:8090/knowledgeTree
ProxyPassReverse /knowledgeTree http://127.0.0.1:8090/knowledgeTree
<Location /knowledgeTree/>
ProxyPassReverse /
</Location>
</IfModule>

When I am trying to connect I see only: Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ifdocu.contaxt.biz:8090.

Ubuntu Installation :: Automatically Configure Apt-get And Proxy?

May 8, 2011

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 and I'm having issues with apt-get and proxy configuration. Upon initial install I attempted to set the proxy configuration through the GUI and opted for the "manual proxy" configuration. Part way through entering the proxy server name I decided to use the "automatic proxy" configuration option instead. I checked this radio box and entered the URL to automatically configure the proxy information.

At this point everything seeemed to work fine. I ran "apt-get update" and, partway through the update process, I decided to abort the update by pressing control-c. Now I am unable to use apt-get to perform any updates. It gives me several errors stating it is unable to resolve "www" (which is the partial name of the proxy server I began to enter before deciding to use the auto configuration option).

No problem I thought...I'll just go into "/etc/apt/apt.conf" and change the name. Except the name in the apt.conf file is correct. I brought up "synaptic" and changed the network configuration there (as it had the same issue) and now synaptic works fine. I am also able to use the GUI Update Manager to update my system. Still apt-get update fails. Here is one of the error lines it spits out:
