General :: Home Server - Configure Fedora 15 To Allow Access Via Port 80 From Other Computers

I am trying to make my home server accessible to the whole web. I have installed Nginx on my Fedora 15 64-bit Linux machine, and it works with localhost but it doesn't work online or allow other computers on the network to access it via the IP address. It keeps coming back with: Could not connect

I have port forwarding. I have even tried different ports but they all seem to be blocked. What could be wrong? I have a netgear router.

General :: Update Standard Fedora Library Package Without Internet Access?

Apr 26, 2010

I need to get the libstdc++.so.5 library ( on a computer with Fedora 8 and don't wonder why it's so ancient,-there is a good reason for it) but I don't have Internet access from that computer, so I can't get to the online repo's.

However, I do still have the installation disk, and I'm typing this from a computer (SuSE 10) that is half a meter from the Fedora box.

I tried the "ADD/REMOVE Software" option on the menu, but it keeps on looking for the online repo and then if it doesn't get it, it fails.

Is it possible to get this library from the installation disk. How? Could I download the single package from the online repo onto the SuSE machine and then move it to the Fedora machine? How do I then tell the Fedora machine to "incorporate" it.

General :: Getting Emacs Recognizing .tex As Latex And Even Running Latex-mode?

Jul 5, 2010

I am a semi-noob on this and I have problems getting my emacs recognizing .tex as latex and even running latex-mode. Usually when you run latex-mode (M-x : latex-mode) emacs should switch to latex-mode, but nothing happens in my case. The menu bar still show the TeX options, highlighting remains the same etc.

I am running emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.10.4), this is on a university system so I don't know much about it.

Ubuntu Installation :: Configure Fails But Library Not Missing

Nov 4, 2010

I'm trying to install gazebo but I would like the general solution. When I type "./configure" I get the error: "could not find gdal_priv.h" or sometimes "could not find gdal library" But I have it on my computer. It is: usr/include/gdal/gdal_priv.h This means configure is not looking in the right place for this library. Where is the path stored, please? I tried reading the configure file but I could not find it. I tried to replace all instances of gdal_priv.h by gdal/gdal_priv.h but this did not work either. I tried adding /usr/include/gdal to all the env PATH_something_or_other I could see. how to tell to ./configure where to look for libraries. What file(s) should I edit? (I tried config.status, because it contains /usr/include stuff). The files I have are:

Programming :: Specify A Library Search Path To Configure's AC_CHECK_LIB?

Aug 31, 2010

I'm writing an application and want to make possible to compile it with or without an optional module. This module requires perl library to be compiled, so I want to check presence of it in 'autoconf'.

The problem exists because perl library is placed in 'non-standart' location itself (like a /usr/lib64/perl5/CORE/libperl.so). So when I try to run configure (with AC_CHECK_LIB or AC_SEARCH_LIBS), it cannot find and link libperl.so in its test.

Trying to pass ./configure CFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64/perl5/CORE/ or ./configure LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64/perl5/CORE/

How can I define a location to search for configure's tests?

Software :: Configure Error: Readline Library Not Found

May 8, 2010

configure: error: readline library not found If you have readline already installed, see config.log for details on the failure. It is possible the compiler isn't looking in the proper directory. Use --without-readline to disable readline support. Now I tried to yum install readline-devel and the result was failure as below:

Quote:

[root@localhost ~]# yum install readline-devel-6.0-3.fc12.i686.rpm
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile

[code]....

So I am thinking that maybe I have to tell configure where my readline libraries are. From the above, it looks like readline-6.0 is not on my computer, even though I went through the configure/build/install process for it.

Fedora :: No Access To Home Folder From Ubuntu When I Have From Others / Fix It?

Nov 10, 2010

Derived from http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=254080

After installing Fedora next to Ubuntu with a common home-folder, I've had troubles with many different things. When I finally fixed grub2 so I could display all the OSs available, I tried to boot Ubuntu. Then I got three messages, one telling me .ICEauthority wasn't able to upgrade. I've now realized it was because my user in Ubuntu didn't own the home-folder. I typed "sudo chown -R jp:jp /home/jp/" in a shell, and it worked. But when I then logged into fedora, I got the same error messages, so I had to type "su -c chown -R jp:jp /home/jp". Apparently, jp in Fedora isn't the same user as jp in Ubuntu.

How do I make my home folder owned by both?

General :: Installing A Library Locally In Home Directory But Program Doesn't Recognize It

Aug 18, 2011

I am installing a program on a server as a non-root user. Specifically it is tmux 1.5, but this should apply broadly to all locally installed program in my opinion (I mention the program name in case this problem ends up not being my own error).

The program requires me to install some dependent libraries (e.g. libevent and ncurses). So, I installed them both locally since I do not have root access

cd $HOME/library/installation/folder
DIR=$HOME/local
./configure --prefix=$DIR
#... make ... make install

[Code]....

Ok, so this installs the program without problems into $HOME/local/bin, but if I run the executable: $HOME/local/bin/tmux , I get the following error:

tmux: error while loading shared libraries: libevent-2.0.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It would seem to me that the program cannot find the desired libraries, but the file libevent-2.0.so.5 does indeed exist in $HOME/local/lib as specified in the configure options. I am wondering how I can get the program to recognize the installed library in order to run. I tried putting symbolic links in $HOME/lib, $HOME/bin, and $HOME/local/bin, but none of these worked.

Fedora Installation :: Access Mint's Home Folder And Files But Since Username?

Feb 9, 2010

I installed Fedora 12 a couple of days ago. This is my secondary operating system. The main one is Mint 8 and in order to have the same documents in both OSs I have a separate /home partition, but for some reason I don't see any of my Documents. In the installation I told fedora that I already had a /home partition and to use it. Also if I mount Mint's disk, while I can browse the folders, I can't see any document .

Finally I can access my Mint's home folder and files but since my username in fedora has a capital A it created another home folder. How can I change my home folder path so it point to the other home folder?
