Is there a way to SSH into a server (my home computer) from behind a proxy that has a username and password? I read about corkscrew, but I was wondering if there is a simpler way.
I'm trying to use Kubuntu 10.04 in a corporate environment. Our environment uses an internet proxy that requires a username and password.Under Ubuntu 10.04, I can use the GUI to set the proxy host, port, username and password. When I do this, all the web browsers work, Snyaptic works, etc. However, under Kubuntu 10.04, the GUI lets me specify a proxy host and port, but doesn't appear to save the username and password. Because of this, I have to manually set the proxy information on my web browser, but the package managers don't work because they can't access the internet. Apparently the ability to specify proxy username and password is either broken or unfinished.
I bought a firefox extension which support proxy with username and password, but seems only http version and not socks 5 server which I already have installed on server. I know for privoxy, but privoxy don't support username/password. Is there anything else what works with username/password? Also what is different between http and socks5?
I am using Red Hat 5 and kannel for SMS solution. My question is How to configure kannel for different user names and passwords. So that we can submit SMS to kannel using any one of the username. Also we need to keep record of SMS according to user name via it was submitted to kannel..? Please guide me for the same.
I'm having a hard time installing Ubuntu 10.10 (32bits). I load the CD and everything's ok throughout the installing procedure, but when the installation is over and it says it's gonna reboot it doesn't do it!
The screen resembles a terminal with a message like "the computer is going to reboot NOW!" but it could stay like that for hours. The keyboard is locked so I can't reboot by commands, and if I press CTRL+ALT+DEL it just reprints the same message. Therefore I'm forced to turn off my computer manually.
After that, the Ubuntu desktop doesn't load. The screen shows a terminal asking for my username and password to access the computer. No graphics at all.
I have Fedora running on the comp which is sitting behind proxy, which required username and password to access internet. The username is E-mail address.
I've tried the following to configure internet access:
My question is how can I configure internet access through proxy system wide for all applications and commands?
I have installed F11 and i found difficult toonnect to the internet where as in the windows its working fine. I am using BSNL Broad band connection.A username and the passwrod is given
I'm on Debian Lenny. I've shared a folder on gnome GUI, then went to win 7. I see my machine, SERVDEB01. When I click on it, I get the login popup. The workgroup set in samba is FILE-SHARING, so I login with the following: FILE-SHARINGmyuser password and that's when I get the unknown username or bad password thing.
I had a look to /etc/samba/smb/conf security = user is uncommented the shared folder appears at the end of the config file In despair, I've also created an identical user on win 7 and the linux box. I've been into the security Local Policies of windows 7 set NTLM to LM and NTLM (instead of NTLMv2) Here's my smb.conf in case it's needed.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04...How do i setup a broadband connection that DOES NOT require a username and password i tried pppoeconf but it wont let me proceed without entering something in the username and password fields. on XP i jus plug in my Ethernet cable and it works but it doest on ubuntu.
ran an internet cafe and last week my windows server got fried because of power surge. Now i got Fedora 14 running on another PC and i want to set it up as a full caching proxy server, so other computers can connect through it to the internet. I have 2 network cards inside.I'm really new to Linux and now learning my way around. I managed to install squid but don't know how to configure it to suit the purpose above
I need to restrict access to the internet and keep unwanted software out of LAN with 45 workstations at the school I teach at. I thought about configuring a proxy and firewall on SuSE 11.4?
The problem is that he did not specify exactly where in /etc/profile. I am trying to make a custom spin of F12 but I cannot do it behind the proxy as it is now.
how-to configure squid proxy server. I still haven't been able to find a solution. I want to set up squid as a open http proxy server. So people from other networks can connect through the proxy without having to login.Do I have to use iptables to reroute http traffic to squids proxy port? I have forwarded the port in my ISP modem so I know thats working, its the squid config that has flaws or iptables locally.
I use an atom based processor of 1.60 ghz on intel d945gclf board. My ram is a zion 1gb @ 533mhz. Hdd is from western digital 80gb @ 7200 rpm. I have a broadband(dsl) connection from bsnl dataone (a state owned telecom service provider). I connect to internet via a huawei wa1003a ethernet/usb/wireless modem which is provided by my service provider. I need a username and a password everytime i connect to internet via dial-up.
I was using windows xp service pack ii. It was nice and easy installing my modem on xp either via usb or ethernet. Both ways it was easy as i have both the drivers with me.Only and main problem was fighting viruses. I tried many free downloadable anti-virus software to protect my maching. Initially they were fine. But after few months they stopped taking regular updates and became non-functional. I also tried symantec corporate v.10. But it has its drawbacks also. It made my machine perform like a snail.I had previously heard about linux based operating systems. But never tried one. As i am an ameteur in using computers windows xp was suiting my needs. Recently i saw an article in the newspaper about ubuntu which is a free open source operating system. And most important to me it is virus free. But here is a problem also. I cannot connect to internet. My ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala is not identifying my modem and a network between my modem and my machine cannot be established. Also i cannot create a dial-up option where i can give username and password.
brand new 2 Ubantu & set up standard Ubantu compartment accessed via 1 user name only and password. 1st few times all good but now suddenly, unexpectedly password declared invalid. Had written down password so it is correct & not entry error. Not know how to reset password or bypass 'username/password log on screen' Am on an Acer 5542G with windows 7 home premium.
Am using Fedora 15, in which i was able to configure the proxy server and authentication. i confirmed this by configuring web broswer and it works. Now the problem is that i want to deploy it out to other computer system(client) i dont want to use the transparent proxy because the Proxy Authentication will not work. I even tried to configure a DHCP server if it will work but i cant still configure for other computer system to work.
The "Revese proxy" has two IP, one for local and another for outside.I've tried with iptables, but unable. Now I'm trying with "redir".When I do a tnsping database, it works and says OK. But executing sqlplus user/pass@database, it tries to connect but time later I receive a timeout. What i do is a redir from port 1521 in "Reverse proxy" to 1521 in "Oracle database" why this doesn't work or any other way to do it?
I recently installed vsftpd on my server. I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.
I have a 9.10 installation that I am unable to connect with SAMBA.
Attempts to access this (from Windows XP) give an error "the password or username is invalid".
I can see the computer, but not connect.
The Ubuntu installation is set up with the same user and password I normally use, and the files are setup the same way. I even copied smb.conf from another installation which works.
I have set up an ubuntu server running PPTP Server for VPN connections. I can successfully connect from a laptop within the LAN, but taking that same machine to an internet connection and trying to connect back in does not work. The only difference is that when I connect from within the network, I am obviously using the server's LAN (non-routable) address, and when I am connecting from outside the network (from Verizon Business DSL ), I am using the Comcast connection's static IP address.
I have a static IP address on a Comcast Business Class internet connection. Router is set to forward pptp and GRE ports.
Works: VPN Server <- Laptop iPhone -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Does not work: Laptop -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Here is the weird thing. I have an iPhone that connects flawlessly every time through it's AT&T data connection. The laptop however, gets to "verifying username and password", and then returns error 619. It seems that there is an issue only when going through the router using the PPTP client built into MS windows.
i have a website named [URL]... now i want to access this website using proxy server(squid,or etc...) under my personal server named [URL]...means that [URL]...
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04LTS. I'm trying to configure my chat accounts. But after entering username and password, it is asking "Enter password to unlock your login keyring". I have entered my login password. But it is saying that "The password you use to log in to your computer no longer matches that of your login keyring."
Anyone know how to configure GDM 2.26.1 to NOT display the list of users, but instead just prompt for username and password?I tried the following (as normal user and also as root):
Code: gconftool-2 -s /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/disable_user_list -t bool true Then, I queried the value as follows:
when i started phpmyadmin by localhost/phpmyadmin ..it ask a username and password ....so i know password will be of mysql but what will be the username when..bcoz when i installed mysql it only asks me the password ...it doesnt ask any username to enter at that time
When I installed Ubuntu on my laptop, I had chosen "automatic login" . So i was not asked ofr username and password everytime I switched on. I later wanted to change the settings. So I went to systems-->administration-->login window-->security. There I disabled automatic login and I reboot the computer. Now the GUI does not allow me to enter Username and password. It says "Authorization denied" at the login screen.
