I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.

I have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.

I have a Centos 5.4 server running kernel 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5PAE. It has an internal modem, and I need to be able to issue AT commands from a script to the modem. I need to simply dial a number and hang up. The relevant piece of my script is:

With an external modem, this works no problem. With an INTERNAL modem, the call never goes out. I fired up minicom to make sure the modem was working correctly, and if I issue those AT commands from within minicom, everything works great.
While minicom was running, I noticed a peculiar fact: WHILE minicom is running, the script works from the command line, and I can see all the AT commands and OK's in minicom, (minicom acts as a monitor). When I exit minicom, the script stops working. It appears minicom is creating a bridge between the com port and the modem itself. So, what is minicom doing that I'm unaware of?
The server's sole function is to run asterisk as a voicemail server (avaya wanted well into 6 figure territory to implement this....). This script is to dial an avaya FAC to turn the voicemail message lights on and off on the end users' phones.

I wish to install a modem to permit dial in access (ie to be able to access the system remotely). The modem I have is an external modem on the 9 pin serial port. What configuration would I need to perform on the server?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed the KDE spin and am liking it so far. Except for the fact that I cannot get onto the internet. I rely on this ZTE USB wireless modem for internet and that just would not get recognized in Fedora. Plus, my Windows installation is down and I would love to keep it that way if at all possible.
I have followed a few instructions on this particular problem. I have modified the menu.lst file to account for the usbmodserial and product. The usb_modeswitch program has also been installed and the usb_modeswitch.conf file has been edited with the values I got from the 'lsusb' command's output.
But the curious thing is that when I actually execute the usb_modeswitch command, I get a message saying that there are no drivers for the ZTE device. Which means that I cannot go onto the wvdialconf part of it at all. Basically at this point I dont have a modem, according to Fedora. But it does get recognized as a ZTE device. That tells me that there is something right about what I have done so far and may only need to do a few tweaks here and there.
PS - I am based out of India and this is a Tata Indicom Photon (NOT Photon Plus) connection for which I have a USB device which acts as a modem.
I'm about ready to give up! The modem is a USR5610C it has an rpm file. I guess I'll also need to know if I'm starting it correctly, by restarting the machine.

I have tried a ZTE 636 which is recognised by the system and have run usb_modeswitch to make it be recognised as a modem and not a cdrom. The local cell / Internet provider that covers Guatamala, Honduras, El Salvador, uses an HSDPA modem marked "GBC" and is also known as the "China Bird". It's a black usb stick that looks identical to the option unit, but its definitely not an option modem.
lsusb lists it as 1c9e:1001 with no text after it. It automounts as a disk drive with typical Windows software on it. Nothing ever shows up in /dev/ttyUSB*, as I believe the disk mount causes it to not try mounting it as a modem. Dismounting it also does no good.
I have a creative modem blaster V.92 which I know works because I have used it on windows and ubuntu how ever I am having some problems with F11 it sounds like its dialing okay and the box pops up that says please wait when I try to connect via the network manager thing but thats all it does the box never goes away and I've looked at the modem lights thing I added to my panel and it says its not sending or receiving anything and firefox doesnt work so I am not sure what I am doing wrong here.

All were interesting and explaining the wvdial.conf file. The problem I have is that, the file asks for the phone # to dial, username & a password. I don't have these information since my ISP didn't provide those. It works perfectly in Windows, in which above information are not needed, because when plugged in Windows, a software installation launches, which does the job to connect to the internet. So, is there a way to configure the modem to connect to the internet without those information. Because my ISP refuses to provide those, when I called there customer services.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to Fedora 11, and am having an issue with the USB modem (Novatel USB720) disconnecting almost immediately after it is connected. Sometimes it disconnects 30 seconds after it is connected, sometimes 2-3 minutes. And other times it stays connected for hours without a problem. I know the card is good as it works using Verizon Connection Manager software under Windows and never had this problem.
And, I am able to get to the Internet while it is connected, so it is passing traffic OK. I'm using the NetworkManager to connect the "Auto Mobile Broadband" connection. I've seen other posts on this very same issue, and I verified that pppd is called using the "lcp-echo-failure 0" and "lcp-echo-interval 0" options. But it seems that when it does disconnect, in /var/log/messages it says "LCP terminated by peer".
Below is an example of /var/log/messages where we can connect, then it immediately disconnects.

I have F9, F10, F11 and F12 installed along with WinXP on my desktop PC. I connect to the internet thru 56K dialup modem (USR-5610B). The earlier versions of Fedora, F9, F10 and F11, all can connect via dialup modem.
My F12 installation is augmented with the following rpms - kudzu-1.2.86.2.i686, libwvstreams-4.6-5.fc12.i686 and wvdial-1.60.10.fc12.i686 (and the rpm for USR-5610B modem)
Network Configuration GUI shows ppp0 (Modem) in the Common Active Profile
However, ppp0 does NOT show up in the Network Device Control GUI, AND ACTIVATE and DEACTIVATE buttons are GREYED-OUT.
The problem is that when I connect my phone to my machine FC11 x64 via USB and use the phone as a modem NetworkManager does not recognise the phone as a modem. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.
