I recently intalled Fedora 12. After installing, I tried to install update, i received an error message as follow:

I enabled RPM fusion free and non-free.

I'm having a problem downloading and installing any updates. It compiles a list of updates, then tells me I need to install further updates and generates a list of those. Then it provides me with an error message. Info on which is in the code quote below. I'm very new to Linux, so I can't say I know how to go about sorting this issue. I appear to be unable to select individual updates for installation anymore from the Yast Online update screen. I use this to install updates manually on 11.1. But everytime I think I've chosen an update to install, all the updates listed get installed, and not just the one I've chosen. For example I just chose a "Fuse security update" to install and clicked the "Install" button. Nothing further happens until I click "Apply". Then all patches listed under the "All available" listing get applied. How do I just apply the patches that I want to ?

Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
i just finished a fresh install of F14 and ran yum update, but it comes back with no updates? In the past, i've always had tons of updates after an install. Did the updates happen during installation so that I have a fully updated version?

When I open the Update Manager, it says there is 399 updates. When I click install, after about ten seconds this pops up:Code:An internal system error has occuredA problem we were not expected has occured. Whenever I try to check for updates, it will say updating cache, but then it will say Failed to download repository information Check your internet connection.

I have Fedora 11 installed on a system that initially had an ATI 1650 type card. I recently replaced it with a GeForce GT 220. I don't believe there was ever an xorg.conf generated or used with the ATI card. Initially, when I replaced cards and rebooted, I was able to start up KDE or GNOME but with only 2 very low resolutions available(the highest being 800x600). Next I ran Xorg -configure to generate an xorg.conf file. Everything I am seeing in this file seems to make sense. But now, when I startx all I get is a red error box being displayed by the CRT monitor with this message:

Please Change Signal Timing
The only way I can get my X system back is to go into the xorg.conf file (in the Device Section) and change the driver to vesa. But I still only have 2 very low resolutions available.
1) I thought linux (or Ubuntu) would tell me somehow when there are new updates I need to install, like Windows does. But I never see any indication. I used this software name "Ubuntu Tweak" to check for update and found 32 new packages. Why wasn't I told about these? Did I accidentally turn something off and I need to turn it back on? Or do I have to configure something special?
2) How can I find out what features or bug fixes these updates provide. For example, one of the files was named "linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic". I'm guessing this is part of the core system. I would really like to know what changed in this and the other 31 updates.
I have two laptops with F12 installed. Both recently received updates and now the yum command does not work on either of them. I have attached 2 files showing the output when yum command is executed on one of these laptops.
View 11 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.04 on Asus Eee/901. I am in Italy running through the college network proxy. I have defined the system-wide proxy and everything looks good. However none of the Linux software packages update (Synaptic, Ubuntu centre and for that matter, Thunderbird) they seem to ignore the Proxy and its required authentication - needless to say, I cannot update/download important packages/updates. System Proxy seems OK because Firefox is working but that's the only one.

After putting the username and password in, the dialog would go away and it would appear that the window manager was trying to load. Somewhere in the process the mouse and keyboard stops responding. The HD activity lights flashes for quite a while but later goes out.
Hoping that F12 would help, I upgraded. The upgrade went well but the problem still exists.
I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit on my new desktop. After installation all gone well.
The initial upgrades after fresh installation also ran well and I was able to reboot and use the system successfully.This was before three-days.Yesterday night I ran again the Update Manager and installed the available (4-5) updates and then I installed Sun-Java-JDK using Synaptic Package Manager using the packages from the canonical partners.
After installation was done I shut down the system and in the morning when
I restarted the system the login screen is coming up but on entering the login credentials a black screen with some text(unable to see the text) flashes and returns me back to login screen.I tried logging in with both normal and admin type users.But admin type user too encounters the same problem.
I have partitioned my 500GB into 5 partitions and there is sufficient data on each partition.
I assume fresh installation would fix it and the data on logical partitions would be intact but doing this re-installation would require me to install the updates again and do all the settings I did till now again.
I recently updated my software (on Fedora 13) and after the updates had finished installing, it said that the computer required a restart. I noticed that I could no longer type anything into the search bar on Firefox without an error message appearing. So I thought it best to restart the computer then. When restarting, the loading screens took much longer than usual. The guitar pick shape that fills with white was stalling around the top. (I know, I love my complete comprehension of the problem too.) I pressed escape, and was given this message on a black screen.

This is as far as I can get. I press Esc again, and I see the completed fedora logo, but nothing else happens. I press Esc again, and I come back to the previous screen, and this time there are two of the above messages. My computer is fairly old (four years), so I understand if the hard drive is deteriorating. I would like to have use of my computer back, but at the very least I would like to recover some files that I have not backed up.
i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.

When I move on from here I get a message. the fedora disk was not found in any of your cdrom drivesI toddle off to my laptop and the install works fine My computer has 2 drives - CD & DVD. Does this message indicate that the computer is only looking at the CD drive. I guess I need to add some options to the install command.
