I have a marmitek x10 remote controller that I had been using in opensuse. However I decided to upgrade my distro to fedora 12. I setup everything that I need to for mythtv however Im unable to get the remote to work. IRW doesnt return anything yet I know the driver is working as irrecord picks up the input. here are the steps Ive followed...
1) I can see the usb device ok....

2) I know it uses the atilibusb drivers, which Im able to prove by doing the following:
> irrecord -H atilibusb ~/lircd.conf
When I press keys on the remote I see the input is received on the screen.
3) I manually start lircd....
> lircd -H atilibusb
4) when I try irw, I dont get any output what so ever.......
I did modify my /etc/sysconfig/lirc however I had been trying gnome-lirc-properties to see if that could get it working, so Im not sure if its applied a wrong setting in the config file.
I have installed Fedora 13 on my system, that went smooth. After restart when I see the License, User creation screen, my normal MS usb Mouse and a MS Keyboard wont work. I have a IR remote which i use to control music >>> image attached. The mouse and kbd on this remote do work. What might be the reason?
I am unable to run remote desktop from my fc 13 server, to my laptop. I have read the remote desktop setup and added port 6000 to firewall, added host name of server to xhost (nick@192.168.1.110). Added the line to /etc/gdm/custom.conf like in fedora guide (DisallowTCP=false). But i still get the error

I have a box (boell) running Fedora 10 sitting behind a firewall at school. I am able to freely ssh to and from this box to other computers (minion) within that lan. Outside of this network I cannot directly ssh to boell - I must ssh first to minion, then I can ssh to boell. I've spoken with the sysadmin and he's verified that the firewall permits ssh freely - i haven't had any issues like this with other boxes of mine there, so this isn't any surprise.
I have verified that the hosts.deny file is blank, iptables permits ports 22 (and 80) and I didn't see anything obvious in the sshd_config. I tried a tcp dump on the external host and boell while attempting to ssh from the former to boell. The packets appear to be acknowledged by boell, but this fails to lead to a connection. I've tried this process with external hosts in different locations with the same result. I have made few modifications to the default installation for F10, so perhaps there is some default somewhere I have to change. In any case, below I have attached excerpts of germane files.

I recently did a clean install of Fedora 11 (from Fedora 10). In Fedora 9 and 10 I used a remote font server so that I could launch HP OpenView over a VPN tunnel. The procedure would go something like this:

I have turned off the firewall to make sure it wasn't blocking the request. But to no avail. I have also had two other people with Fedora 11 machines try this, they get the same error. Were there major changes in the X server from Fedora 10 to 11+?

I am doing some R&D on 11g RMAN in oracle at home. i have installed oracle enterprise linux and i have installed oracle software. when i am trying to configure listener, it is error-ed out. i have verified that telnet with the port is not working and i am seeing connection refused error.
I am unable to get any transparencies to work with compiz. The only way I can get a window or panel to change it's transparency is if I hold ALT + mouse scroll. This changes it temporarily but reverts back to it's original setting as soon as the window is closed.I'm trying to accomplish transparencies to all windows and drop down menus. I can't access my home folder using nautilus ( and everything that using gui), but I easily can access to subfolders e.g. "Music", "Downloads" and others. What can cause this trouble? Also I can retrieve directory listing using terminal.
I am finding little bits and parts of information about CUDA enabled mplayer/mencoder .. apparently CUDA will enable your Nvidia GPU to do work when transcoding video instead of the CPU?

I'm using an HP Pavilion dv7 and so far I've been unable to get my headphone jacks in the front to function at all. I've browsed various forums for the last couple days trying to find a solution but have been unsuccessful so far.
I recently reinstalled Fedora 15 on my laptop and have been unable to get the wireless driver to work as it has before. I successfully installed the akmod-wl package from rpmfusion, built the akmod successfully, and rebooted with no success.
We're using both SuSe and RHEL servers. Our servers are running behind firewall device and remote root login is disabled in SSH.
We're using NAT.
Remote client connections including failed logins are logged into the /var/log/messages but what is logged are gateway ip of our LAN - the LAN IP of Firewall device.
How can I logged the external or public IP of the remote client?
Since moving from centos 5.6 to fedora 15 a week ago I have been unable to get Last Pass firefox addon to work correctly. Those of you familiar to last pass will probably have seen the error message before in a variety of situations, namely "An error occurred while attempting to contact the server. Please check your internet connection." This error appears as soon as you log in (which it does manage to do) but instantly loses authentication - seems like the cookie expires almost instantly and therefore all saved sites/passwords require re-authentication with LP to use.
No network configuration has altered since the OS change, but F15 comes with firefox 4 rather than 3.6.x in centos. I know the last pass plugin should work with FF4 and have read suggestions about SSL/TLS version settings (which are 3.0 and 1.0 respectively) and disabling SELinx. Neither of these have made any difference.
I am running Fedora 12 on an Intel Core 2 Duo system. I ran a software update which installed a new kernel (2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686.PAE) along with many other things. I am now unable to run VirtualBox which I had installed and running successfully before the update. I tried removing and reinstalling VirtualBox from YUMEX, and rebooting. This did not help. When I launch VirtualBox from a terminal, it produces the following output:

I'm not sure what it is complaining about. The files VirtualBox.so and VBoxVMM.so both exist in the /usr/lib/virtualbox directory.
What can be done to get VirtualBox working again on this system?
I have Fedora 11 installed on a system that initially had an ATI 1650 type card. I recently replaced it with a GeForce GT 220. I don't believe there was ever an xorg.conf generated or used with the ATI card. Initially, when I replaced cards and rebooted, I was able to start up KDE or GNOME but with only 2 very low resolutions available(the highest being 800x600). Next I ran Xorg -configure to generate an xorg.conf file. Everything I am seeing in this file seems to make sense. But now, when I startx all I get is a red error box being displayed by the CRT monitor with this message:
Signal Frequency is out of range FH 30.1 kHz FV 24 Hz Please Change Signal Timing
The only way I can get my X system back is to go into the xorg.conf file (in the Device Section) and change the driver to vesa. But I still only have 2 very low resolutions available.
I would like to ask the expertise here about this issue which I am having at the moment. I am unable to VNC to my server. I have configured all the necessary steps to enable the vncserver. But there will be an error stating "main: unable to connect to host: No route to host (113". I have checked on my network side which I did not block any what so ever port on the firewalls and the switches. I am able to ping the server but the main problem is that I am unable to remote VNC to that server. I have several servers which I have configured with the same configuration and only that particular 1 server that could not VNC. This is getting frustrating.
After reading up about ssh, I understand that it's a protocol used for sending encrypted data over a network. However, I don't understand what's going on when I login to my Ubuntu PC using ssh [over the network]. How does the ssh client application 'know' that it has to take input from one computer and pass it to the other?
EDIT; To put it another way, one could send a mp3 file over ssh right? So instead of the file, what tell the ssh client that the input and output of the computers is what has to be sent?
I've had a Twinhan DVB remote control for many years. It's been fantastic. BEEN.After 10.01, buttons longer work except for Volume Up and Down which didn't do this before.I had a party over the weekend and it was such a freaking huge pain to have to go to the pc to switch tracks etc when the week before I could use my remote. ( I know.. I'm venting again)The Twinhan USB remote, shows up as a keyboard so I've never had to configure it. NEVER. I am really having a tough time getting my MCE remote to work with XBMC. I have got to the point where sometimes it work but then it gets VERY sluggish and my system crashes.

I would want to connect to Ubuntu 10.10 via windows. i have tried to connect to it using my IP address locally and it works however when i try to access it from outside (not Locally) it does not work - I keep getting the message IP Does not exist or something?
I am Trying to set up my desktop in order to access it from a remote computer using Remote desktop. I have ubuntu 10.10 and am using the included software remote desktop. When I run the programm is says i can only connect locally using the name "local host". I am trying to connect to my desktop from a vnc app on my ipod touch. It asks me for the ip address and the port.
I was able to connect linux server on windows through putty.But now i am unable to connect that,I can able to ping that IP.SSH daemon is also running. shall i need to change anything in configuration file...
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a friends computer when Windows died on it, and though she has had relatively few problems with it, she still occasionally has problems that are really hard to impossible to fix over the phone. She is also not very knowledgeable with computers, so I was trying to guide her through setting up so I could connect to her remotely and try to figure things out, but I cannot get it to work.
I personally don't use Ubuntu on my computer, I use openSUSE and KDE so that does add to the problem, though I have used Ubuntu and Gnome a lot in the past.
I had her go to remote desktop settings and allow connections from other computers and allow other users to control the desktop, and at first I had her require confirmation and a password but it didn't work without it either. When I try to connect, it just hangs for a while then times out. I tried using KRDC and just VNC in the terminal with the same result.
There should be nothing on my side preventing a connection, but I am not positive. I am not very familiar with remote desktop outside of a LAN either. I am just trying to connect using her IP address, I don't know if there is anything else I need to include. Is there maybe some other setting that needs to be changed or maybe her DSL modem/router is blocking me though I don't know why it would, especially since P2P programs work fine.
I install one server in my system(linux 5.0) and accessing that server through the 127.0.0.1 private ip address(lo). I installed dovecot on my server and now the imap and pop3 ports are open.But when I want to telnet it, it's not possible.Code: Trying 127.0.0.1...telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out.Also I can't any ports else. But I can connect to it from other computers. I tried to connect to this from my PC and it was successful.
