OpenSUSE Install :: Error Appeared Stating That Disc Image Was Not Burnt Due To Some Error
Dec 29, 2010Okay, so bear with me for the lack of detail, its 3:46am and I'm really a beginner at this. So here is my issue: I decided I wanted to try Linux, so i got a Disc Image of Opensuse 11.3. while burning this disc image to a DVD-R I had no issues. But after the Validation was done an error appeared stating the disc Image was not burnt due to some error (apologies for not paying too close attention here) although the entire burn completed without issue. So I closed it and figured I would try again with another Disk when i get one.
Well as it turns out I did burn the Disc Image, and decided to try the Install. I have previously installed Ubuntu a few times and figured it was just as easy.. so I restarted my computer and booted from the CD. went through the Installation up to the Partition part.. This kind of confused me at first but I eventually got that it wanted to shrink my existing windows partition in order to make room. so i went along with it and began the install. well about halfway through the installation error messages kept showing telling me there were missing Packs. after about 10 messages I aborted the install for fear of what would happen now i have a shrunken partition and i dont know how to fix or what to do. I would still like to install opensuse but i dont have anymore DVD-R's and my Flash drive is too small. I will try to provide any info i can upon request. Oh, I forgot to mention im Running windows 7. if that helps at all which I doubt it does. I can safely access windows, nothing happened to the information on my drive. Im just missing 50GB of space now.

Nov 7, 2010my friend using XP and it was closed because he didnt activate it . he want to try Linux , i adviced him to use UBUNTU 10.10 ,but after we order the boot we got a loading screen for ubuntu then this error appeared

Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I did manage to do the updates with yum updates But I don't want to have to use yum at the command line all the time to do updates.

General :: Broken Dual Boot - Xp / Ub - Error: Error File Not Found - Grub Rescue
May 21, 2011Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.

I just updated my software, through a "setenforce 0" and root shell access since the last update before this left me with a bugged GUI updater, restarted and then logged back in to . . . no users visible in GDM at all. There was nothing but a huge "Other" box staring me in the face. I got the idea to check /var/log/messages and then the GDM greeter logs from there, and here is what I came up with.

Oct 4, 2010I am getting and error on my Fedora Core 12 desktop when I try to boot that says " Error 15: File not Found
Press any Key to continue."When I press any key, its take me to the Grub boot loader screen. When I choose a kernel to load, it then takes me back to the black screen that says "Error 15: File not Found Press any key to continue".The last time I had the desktop booted I was using the Gnome disk analyzer and the system froze so I had to perform a hard reboot. Thats when the error started occurring.

Jun 14, 2010I have been using F12 for quite some time now...and its working really great...although am still having some problems...but am sure will get used to it. I have a simple wifi setup at my place, with the dsl modem connected directly to the wifi router. For the past couple of days, whenever i try to access some websites it takes me to [URL] web page. with the following error. Theres no website hosted at this address

Couple more thing that i have noticed is
1. when i clear all my history cache cookies etc.....it starts to work fine....for some time.
2. If i type an address like...www.google or www.facebook it shows the same [URL] page with no website hosted error...instead of the default firefox error page.
3. The search toolbar in firefox also doesnt works properly when ever this thing happens......any search will give a 404 error 404 Not Found The requested URL /search?q=test&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a does not exist.

Nov 8, 2010I recently installed Fedora 14 from KDE live CD . everything is working excellent except when I tried to do lsmod today, I got lsmod:command not found error.I checked and found that PATH did have /sbin and /sbin/lsmod does exist. But /sbin/lsmod points to /bin/lsmod (which does not exist)I did whatprovides on lsmod and found module-init-tools-3.11.1-2.fc13.i686 as the package.

Sep 24, 2009I'm trying to install ffmpeg however I always get an error when I run ./configure. I know xvid is compelled into the dir below, this is the output from the xvid make install.

Oct 27, 2009I am getting a message at my first re-boot after install of "Error 15: File Not Found", and that's as far as it goes. I just installed Fedora 11 on a Drive that I had recently ran Ubuntu 9.04. I did re-partition and format the drive. I am also running Win XP Pro on another drive, and can boot from either. The computer is older, but all the hardware seemed to work fine with Ubuntu and altough I had to format the install drive a couple times the installation seemed to go ok.

Jan 7, 2011After preupgrading without problems, I did not reboot the computer inmediatly. I was surprised that, although preupgrade had finished, the terminal window was yet active and I closed it. On reboot, in the Grub window, one of the options is "Actualizar a (upgrade to) Fedora 14". If I select it I get: "Booting 'Actualizar a Fedora 14 (Laughlin)'

and pressing a key it returns to the Grub window. The /upgrade directory doesn't exist, but it does the /boot/upgrade where the vmlinuz is. uninstall and reinstall the preupgrade, rebooting inmediatly, but I don't know how to uninstall and if this is the solution. How can I uninstall the preupgrade?
Fedora Installation :: Error - No Usable Disks Have Been Found
Feb 25, 2011I'm in the process of trying to install FC14 64 bit to my Window 7 64 bit system. This new system has a 6.0 Gb/s internal hard drive.When I reboot with the F14 install disk I have made it past the disk verification (is Verified) and then picking a language but then I get the message "No usable disks have been found". In Win 7, the Disk Management window shows that 184 GB of space are free. Is there some disk preparation that I should do to make this space available?

Jan 30, 2011I am trying to install Apache on my remote server. I've downloaded the latest Apache Http Server and when I configure it I get this error: configure error: No acceptable C compiler found in $PATH. So I download and extract the latest GCC Compiler and when I try to install that I get the same error:
configure error: No acceptable C compiler found in $PATH I am really stumped... Can anyone just offer ideas. My server is running CentOS 5.4 x64 and I'm remotely trying to download and install a running LAMP setup for Joomla. I'm using a shell to communicate with a cloud server type.

All of a sudden, on boot, I get this error: "loading initial ramdisk error: file not found" If I hit 'E' at the menu entry, I can scroll all the way to the end of the boot command, and it appears that the last 'c' on 'generic' is missing from the kernel name. If I add the c and hit ctrl-x it boots fine. The grub.cfg appears to be correct, it has the full generic spelled out.

Jul 6, 2011I'm pretty new at working with Linux/Unix systems, just started dealing with the CLI a week or two ago at work so bear with me if my questions/problems seem obvious, they probably aren't to me. URLs are at the bottom since I can't hyperlink to them. We have a server with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga), x86_64 GNU/Linux. For the past few days at least (not sure when it began) every five minutes we get two messages for CPU0 and CPU1 saying: "Temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled". Occasionally it says they are normal, so they're not *always* above the threshold but a majority the time.
The server doesn't have internet, so I interact with it and transfer files via ssh/telnet/sftp from my Windows PC to another server running Fedora release 10 (Cambridge) to the RHEL5 server. I have been trying to install lm_sensors to try and read the CPU temperature and possibly the fan speed, but every installation method has failed. I have tried installing it via the yum command I read about on this page (URL 1), but since it doesn't have internet access it didn't work. I then tried manually installing using the instructions on the lm-sensors.org page (URL 2), but whenever I try to install anything (gcc, libtool,
libsysfs) it shows:

I then looked up how to install gcc, but when I found a .rpm file of gcc 4.1.2 for RHEL5 I tried installing that like it mentions here (URL 3), but there are lots of [dependancy] programs I can't find a .rpm for as it seems they are all outdated and hard to find for RHEL5. Do I need to find the installation CD in order to install gcc? And is there any other way to check the cpu temperature or to know how to disable/fix the messages about temperature being above threshold?

Fedora Installation :: Qt Package Configure Error - Headers And Libraries Not Found
Dec 11, 2009I am trying to install kcachegrind and during the ./configure phase I got the following error:
Checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!
Now I guess I have QT installed and I tried to do the following:
./configure --with-qt-includes=/usr/lib64/qt4/include
but that did not work either.. actually checking further I found that the folder include is missing in usr/lib64/qt4/ !!!!
