This problem showed after fresh installation of Debian Testing (image is dated at 1 march 2010). When I want remove cd I click button on device but the icon is still at the desktop and in the nautilus too (in the left sidebar). I have to remove it manualy from nautilus or desktop ( option: eject ). This problem shows with packages like gnome-mount or gnome-volume-manager ot without them.

I've noticed strange behavior of gnome-panel. After every log in it disappear - it's not killed, it's working but seems like completely transparent so i have to touch it twice to get it back. It's 2.30.2 ver of panel.

The icon for audio discs disappears correctly. The Icon for Video-DVDs doesn't disappear. If I click on a "remaing" Icon the Contents of the Disc is shown with nautilus - I can even navigate in the directory-tree.
when i start my skype account after login, I minimize and on the task bar appear the Icon , but few minute after, the icon disappear from the task bar. If I check the process (wy typing ps -aux | grep skype) i found the process of skype, but I'm unable to get it in foreground (nor with alt-tab key. I was unable to see the skype icon).so every time I have to kill the process ad start it again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my laptop, I have stable installed. The original install was about two years ago, and I've just been keeping up with all of the stable updates. It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.
why, every time I started gnome, update-manager show me the error icon?seems like there are errors but if I lunch apt-get update or aptitude update it works great.

After a recent Debian 8 update, I notice a new problem with the Gnome-Terminal. When you open a new tab or window, whatever is the cwd of the current tab becomes the cwd of the new tab or window. This always used to reset to ~, which is what I want. Is this a new "feature" and if I can disable it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am runnig Jessie with the default GNOME. Every thing has been perfectly smooth, but for the audio line in. First you should now the same hardware was working well with Wheezy. Then the hardware card is RealTek ALC887-VD and I am using the analogic part (both for in and out lines).
Below I will write some command results, but first, it seems important to describe the problem. I can hear the audio line in. If I blow in a mic, I definitelly hear the sound of it in the output. With alsamixer I can toggle the line in level and it works fine. By the way, with pavucontrol, it is the same I have access to the line in. but when I look in the Gnome setting for the sound, input, no card is available, then no volume setting is available.
--> as a result, I can't record the sound from the mic. it is sent directly to the output without been taken into account in the system. So no comment on video making, no skype …
On the web, the problem is always "no sound with this card" "No sound after upgrade to Jessie"… but Card is working fine but no seen on a upper level…

If I try to change the icon style, it changes the icons in my desktop and in Nautilus, but it doesn't change the icons in the panels nor the ones in the menus.

I installed a fresh new Jessie (8.1) with the Cinnamon environment a few days a go, and yesterday I started seeing a strange issue seemingly happening at random.
I'm not sure what I do to cause this, but every few hours all the text and some of the icons (launcher, notifications and some applications) on the panel disappear. Most icons in the menu also vanish.
I've just noticed that some windows also disappear, but instead of showing the window behind them, I see my background image (see attached image).
I can't interact with windows which I can't see, but I can move and resize them (they have no border to grab, but alt+middle mouse works).
I can get around the issue by restarting Cinnamon (Alt+F2, r), but that works only part of the time.
Dmesg shows nothing (most recent message was plugging in my mouse & keyboard).
I'm running this on a Lenovo X201 (which uses Intel HD graphics QM57) and an external monitor (dual monitor configuration)...

Ubuntu 9.04 Gnome Desktop (although I have seen the same situation in other versions).When I have a removable media device installed such as a USB flash drive, a CD/DVD or an SD card in the built in reader I have a corresponding icon on the desktop. So here is my situation...I have a 16 GB SDHC card installed in the reader in my netbook as additional storage. As the main solid state "hard drive" itself is only 16 GB I leave the card in at all times. I would like to do away with the desktop icon as I never use it to access the SD card. Any way to do this? I believe it appear as part of the HAL process so perhaps it will go away with 10.04.

Sound system is work(good work) in:Ubuntu 9.10,Suse 11 and Windows But in Debian i have a starange problem:periodic sound is disappear(simply so or when i'm switch differents video files). I've encountered a problem when trying to burn a video file to DVD using Brasero Disc Burner. I put the DVD and then open up Brasero and click on "video protect" then I chose the video file I want to burn, I click the "burn" button and choose the settings I want then when press the "burn" button once more.
I then get this screen...
It then ejects the DVD and I get this...

View 6 Replies View RelatedWondering if any one else is having this problem lately under 11.4. My Skype does not want to launch any more. When I click to open Skype, the tray icon will pop up for 1 second and then just disappear. Have tried launching from command line to see if there are any messages, but it just says aborted when you try launch it.
I noticed this started happening randomly when I had the laptop in hibernate and then would resume, Skype would then just disappear and then I would just relaunch it and it would be find again.
I'm facing an odd issue with my Ubuntu 10.04. So, I have WLAN activated and working on my user account. Then I switch to another account on the same computer and nm-applet tray icon disappears! I have activated the option that all users may use the WLAN connection, but the tray-icon doesn't show up for other users. Only the one who logs in first sees it. Network connection is working properly, but the tray icon would be handy.
Trying to start nm-applet manually in terminal results in an error saying that nm-applet is already running (sure it is, on the first account that logged in). But is it possible to have the tray icon visible for all users?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently did a fresh install of Lucid on an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC laptop. At least once a day the main menu and context menus(desktop) in gnome stop working (They will not drop down/ appear). This includes all menus in gtk apps but not menus in not gtk apps such as firefox. I have an autohide panel at the top of the screen for my main menu, shortly after the menus stop working (but never at the same time), the panel wont unhide and the workspace swtcher applet stops working, this corresponds to when the buttons on the panel I can still see (at the bottom) stop working. When the workspace switcher applet goes, so to does the ability to switch using hotkeys (ctr alt left/right).
Suspending then resuming the laptop usually fixes these problem. Sometimes however 2 suspends are needed to fully fix the menus. It is possible for the context menu on the desktop to be working after a suspend, but not the main menu (but not always). A second suspend/ resume fixes this. I also noticed that this happened one of the times I booted a lucid release candidate live CD on my machine. I'm not sure but this may have something to do with the fact that I installed using a release candidate live CD instead of the proper release. (I have done all the updates).
I have noticed in my pc (i386) and my ps3 (ppc64) under FC12 gnome 2.28 that some icons from some menus doesn't always appear, like in:
Places: Connect Server | Search for Files
System: all
"User name": all
Is this some sort of bug? Or I have done something wrong?
