Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.10 No Rhythmbox Panel Icon
Oct 26, 2010After ubuntu 10.10 upgrade (from 10.04), the Rhythmbox icon has disappeared. I open Rhythmbox, play some music, then close or mimimize the window (music continues, i.e. the program still operates from memory). But there is no panel icon anymore. Up to v. 10.04 I could reopen end control the program window via the panel icon.

Jun 15, 2010I used to be able to open the Rhythmbox window by just clicking the Rhythmbox icon in the notification area. Now in Lucid it brings up a menu (isn't that what right click is for??) and I have to select "Show Rhythmbox", and sometimes I accidentally click on "Quit" and I have to start Rhythmbox again. It's a real PITA. Is there any way to make it the way it was before? I've looked at the Rhythmbox options and can't find anything about it. (Why do GNOME applications always have barely any options?)

Apr 29, 2011I've upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04, and now I'm experiencing some problems with the displaying of panels and icons that I'm hoping someone can help me to fix.
Situation: Running 11.04 in latest virtualbox (4.06, with guest additions installed) on a macbook pro running snow leopard (10.6.7). I'm in gnome classic (no effects) because I'm not yet used to gnome 3 and compiz doesn't run all that well for me in this virtualization set-up. But the problem, described below, is consistent from gnome 3 to classic (with effects) to classic (without effects).
Problem: When I first log in after a reboot, everything looks great in the default settings (ambiance theme, I think), but after ~ 15 seconds, the panels and icons revert to an odd looking theme that I don't particularly care for. And trying to change the settings in the "Appearance" preferences is of no help, i.e., I can change the themes, but the panels and icons remain in a stock, old-school gnome-ish theme.

Only when there are no known wireless AP around. if there is a previously connected wireless in the area I will see the icon but if I'm at a new place it just won't show up. nm-applet is still running, I tried to kill and restart it but the icon still doesn't show .

Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor.Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.

Mar 31, 2011When I have an Audio CD inside my computer in the desktop there is an icon called "Sound disk". When I left click on it Nautilus opens. I would like Rhythmbox to open instead.
I've tried to change in /etc/gnome/defaults.list :
But the problem is still here.
NB: I only need to click once on the icons of the files to open them (I changed the preference of Nautilus).
NB2: I have no problem with "Open with" in the context menu when right clicking.
NB3: I have no problem when I insert an Audio CD: Rhythmbox opens automatically because I selected that option.
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Rhythmbox Doesn't Recognize RCA Opal?
Jan 5, 2010I have an RCA Opal, 4GB player. I am having some problems transferring music to it. I first try the player in MSC mode and just drag and drop the files I want to listen to into the Opal's Music directory. That works fine, but over half of the songs I transfer over end up in the "Unknown Album" file. I have checked the ID3 Tags for these songs and they are intact. Next I have put the player into MTP mode to try to transfer things with Rhythmbox, but Rhythmbox doesn't show the player in the sidepanel.
EDIT 1: It may be worth noting that mtp-detect in Terminal returns the message "No Raw Devices Found"
I am on Pidgin right now if anyone just wants to IM a response.

May 19, 2010I have an iPhone 3GS with Firmware 3.1.3 and I'd like to sync the music over rhythmbox in lucid (64bit).
The phone does mount in nautilus and I can also mount it with ifuse to use it witz gtkpod. However it does not show up (it only blinks and disappears) in the list at the left in rhythmbox though I have MTP and iPod Plugins enabled.
I thought I'd ask after having waited several weeks and none of the gvfsd updates changed anything

I have two applets on my Gnome panel -- NetworkManager Applet 0.8, and Klipper (it works better than Glipper) -- that I want to move.
HOWEVER, right-clicking the panel icons does not enable me to move these applets, as follows:
- NetworkManager Applet 0.8 does not include a Move item in its list of options.
- Klipper displays a long list of Klipper options but no Move option.
How I can move these items to new locations on the Gnome panel?

Dec 13, 2010I have a PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I have about 50GB of music in the Music library. I can connect from, play to, and download music to my DLNA enabled phone (Samsung Galaxy S), everything works fine.
When I start Rhythmbox on my laptop (Ubuntu 10.10), it sees my PC (appears under "Shared" in the left panel), but the tracks won't show on the list, it seems as if it fails to retreive the list of media. No matter how long I wait, nothing happens, the tracklist remains empty forever.
I have installed the "coherence" plugin from the Software Center.
I'll attach the console output rhythmbox generates when starting up,
Sidenote: it works the other way around, I can "Play to..." Rhythmbox from Windows Media Player.

Oct 12, 2010Someone on the forums had me uninstall pulseaudio to get pSX working, and now I don't have a volume control icon on the panel and when choosing to add stuff to the panel it isn't available.I re-installed pulseaudio through the package manager, but I have a feeling it didn't install everything that uninstalled with it.

Oct 23, 2010Recently I install ubuntu 10.10 on my Sony Vaio laptop. After the CD boot I always got a black screen, after a week i figured that there's nothing wrong, it's just the screen doesnt show up on my laptop's screen. So I use an external monitor and It showed up as normal.
But I need to have it show up on my laptop's screen. I tried to use "additional driver" to activate latest Nvidia driver but after that even my external monitor doesnt work too. Latest driver doesnt work properly i guess. I did try to install older driver version manually but after I turned of gdm, install driver and reboot, my ubuntu always starts with tty1 command terminal. tried ctrl+alt+7 but it stucked at (checking battery state), startx doesnt help me return to graphical screen too.
I got help from a moderator here but the best result so far is to edit my /etc/default/grub. Change
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset"
Sudo update-grub
after the reboot I have it shows up on my laptop's screen. But it seems low-bit color,a bit grand to me(compared to external monitor, both w/o driver). Anw i checked system/preference>monitor . It showed up that my monitor:unknown. I can't choose other resolutions, refresh rate = 0.
I always know its my widescreen is the problem. I have had a lot of problems dealing wgames/application (on windows) can't work on 16:9 mode. install a stable Nvidia driver

May 5, 2010In Lucid, I got rid of both gnome panels, and just now remembered that Rhythmbox opens to the top panel by default (at least for me), which means when I opened it I got nothing. Jan 10, 2010After a recent upgrade I have lost the top right icon in the top panel - so I cannot Set Status, Lock Screen, Guest Session, Switch User ..... Restart, Shutdown. I have right clicked on the top panel and installed the Shutdown icon so I can shutdown but I have lost all the other functions including the 60secs countdown.
