May 19, 2010For some reason I'm not getting the weather icons associated with displaying the kind of weather. Obviously something is missing somewhere.

Debian Multimedia :: Icon Themes Added To Gnome Turned Up Missing
Mar 26, 2010On my laptop, I have stable installed. The original install was about two years ago, and I've just been keeping up with all of the stable updates. It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. To see what I'm talking about take a look at the screen shots here: [URL]
Screenshot-2 is a closeup.
As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.

Dec 7, 2008I am using fedora8. I suddenly noticed that the gnome-power-manager icon (battery icon) has gone missing from my panel. How can I get it back ? I donot see it in the add to panel list so it must have got uninstalled somehow, isn't it so ?

Jul 5, 2010After upgrading to F13 certainly - but from time to time my clock in Gnome will throw a wobbly. Not even consistent wobblies, sometimes the weather is missing completely, as now, sometimes only a slice of the weather icon appears, and the time/date display can be garbled. It seems to happen after a change such as booting up or a weather update, I've tried removing the applet from the panel and re-installing it, and even removing and re-installing the top panel. I'm reluctant to try removing and reinstalling Gnome-applets as that can remove a whole slew of dependencies and possibly bork an otherwise reliable install, after all I can live with it.

Feb 1, 2016Every time I install Jessie, I also install gufw as a graphical firewall frontend for desktop users, but I've also always had to create my own menu icon because the default one never showed up. I opened up the .desktop file today and took a look to see why it was never displayed in Gnome.
There was a line next to the bottom that basically told it to only appear in Unity. Deleting this line allowed it to appear in the Gnome menu. My question is this. Why is this line even in here?

Ubuntu :: Sound Icon At The Panel Missing?
Oct 27, 2010im using ubuntu 10.10. some how, i just lost my sound icon at top of the panel. how can i put it back? i try go to System-->Preferences-->Sound, and there is a msg appear (waiting for sound system to respond). but unfortunately there is nothing happen.fyi, my laptop still have the sound and before the icon appear at the panel. is it related to synaptic package manager?

Switched off my system after using it for close to 3 hours. Today I booted my system and I could not see any GUI in action except mouse pointer. What I can only see is clicked on my camera and posted below for your review.When I get the login screen, I can choose different DE (fluxbox) and I was able to login and do some action. I don't know the reason for this sudden disappearance of desktop.

However, even after reinstalling pulseaudio and ubuntu-desktop(which got removed), the sound control isn't there, although the internet connection icon in the notification area is still thereNote: Another thread said that adding notification area to the panel would restore it. I've tried that, but it only shows the internet icon and not the volume control.

Jul 2, 2011In 11.04 on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop, there are two logins. User1 has sudo privs, User2 does not.When either user logs in, network-manager picks up on whatever remembered wireless network is available, connects, and the nm icon shows in the panel.If the other user logs in (via Switch User), the connection persists, but the nm icon does not show in the panel.
Under 11.04 it appears there is no way to put the nm icon back in the panel, even when the connection is set to "available to all users", and even when the user missing the icon is User1 (who has sudo privs).If control is now switched back to the first user who logged in, the nm icon is still there, and the system is still connected, but if that user logs off (rather than clicking Switch User), the connection is dropped, and when the other user gives their password to resume their session, there is now neither connection nor an icon with which it can be re-established.
This would appear to be a bug, but is there a way to ***FORCE*** the nm icon to appear in the panel? The connection is already set to "available to all users", and doing a networking start does not do anything. Under 11.04 it appears that there is no way to make any icon appear in the panel if it is not already there.

May 16, 2010everything was excellent till yesterday evening but from the evening, when i switched on my pc, the Network Connections icon is missing from the panel of my fedora 12 os. i'm being able to connect to internet from Systems->Preferences->Network connections & check Connect Automatically to my Mobile broadband connection. but i'm not being able to disconnect it. i've to remove the mobile phone from my pc.please put some light on how will I be able to disconnect it (without removing the phone)?

Like half of my wireless just the mail icon from the indicator applet half the trash can or show desktop or just the power button from the indicator applet session. Feb 5, 2010I'm having an issue with Gnome panel, the window list applet isn't resizing to accomodate more windows. I have my panel situated so that the window list applet is on the top left and the menu list applet is in the top right. Instead resizing to be smaller in order to accomodate more windows, the window list applet pushes the menu list applet under it and continues to the right. I recently upgraded to lenny and with I'm assuming Gnome panel 2.20.3. I didn't have this issue before the upgrade. I've looked through and tried the options in the preferences and also a little bit in th config editor but with no luck.

Sep 19, 2010I have an error icon in my Gnome panel that will not go away. It appeared after running an apt-get command (explained below). Everything is working fine, but I cannot get the error icon to go away. Surely there must be some file somewhere storing the state that is making this reappear. The icon occurred after the following: I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. Yesterday, I decided to add the Medibuntu repository to my apt sources based on the instructions at [URL] -- i.e., I ran the command:
sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list [URL] && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update
In the terminal window, I saw the following error message amidst the other output:
W: GPG error: [URL] lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2EBC26B60C5A2783
However, everything appears to have worked fine. The Medibuntu repository has been added to my sources, the keyring has been added, and I am able to install packages from the repository using apt-get without any errors.
Nonetheless, an error icon appeared in the Gnome panel after running the above command-line, and it will not go away. If I move the mouse pointer over it, the following text displays:
An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: 'Unknown Error: '<type 'exceptions.SystemError'>' (E:Opening configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic - ifstream::ifstream (13:Permission denied))' This usually mean that your installed packages have unmet dependencies
The file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic it mentions is present and is readable (at least as root). Running Package Manager works fine with no errors. I've tried running
sudo apt-get check
and it runs fine without any errors. Likewise,
sudo apt-get update
and
sudo apt-get upgrade
run fine with no errors. But the error icon remains.
If I log out of Gnome and log back in, the error icon returns. If I reboot, the error icon returns as soon as I log back into a Gnome session. How to I get rid of this?

Everytime I boot debian my partitions are not shown in Nautilus and gnome-panel:While nautilus is this way, if I plug USB drives it doesn't run automount.If I execute the command "nautilus -q" and restart the gnome panel, the partitions are shown and the usb automount start to work,if I add "nautilus -q" toartup automatically my desktop gets deactivated.Image after "nautilus -q" and "killall gnome-panel"Does anyone know how to fix it, and make the partitions and the usb automount work correctly

Ubuntu :: 10.10 - Changing Start Icon On Gnome Panel?
Feb 13, 2011Recently updated to 10.10 Wondering if it's possible to change the start icon on the gnome panel? In the past I have been able to accomplish this by navigating to the theme's icon folder (usr/share/icons), replacing it with my new icon, updating the cache and restarting gnome. That method doesn't seem to be working however.

Nov 26, 2014I use Debian Jessie which includes a gnome shell version 3.14.1. The problem is that icons of some applications such as Viber or Starcal are not shown in the tray while the icons of other applications (e.g. Skype of Dropbox) are shown without problem.
By the way, the problem does not relate to loading, because all applications are loaded and a space is considered for each in the tray, but the problem is that for some of applications the pictures of their icons are not shown.
