when i start my skype account after login, I minimize and on the task bar appear the Icon , but few minute after, the icon disappear from the task bar. If I check the process (wy typing ps -aux | grep skype) i found the process of skype, but I'm unable to get it in foreground (nor with alt-tab key. I was unable to see the skype icon).so every time I have to kill the process ad start it again.
View 1 RepliesWondering if any one else is having this problem lately under 11.4. My Skype does not want to launch any more. When I click to open Skype, the tray icon will pop up for 1 second and then just disappear. Have tried launching from command line to see if there are any messages, but it just says aborted when you try launch it.
I noticed this started happening randomly when I had the laptop in hibernate and then would resume, Skype would then just disappear and then I would just relaunch it and it would be find again.
This problem showed after fresh installation of Debian Testing (image is dated at 1 march 2010). When I want remove cd I click button on device but the icon is still at the desktop and in the nautilus too (in the left sidebar). I have to remove it manualy from nautilus or desktop ( option: eject ). This problem shows with packages like gnome-mount or gnome-volume-manager ot without them.

The icon for audio discs disappears correctly. The Icon for Video-DVDs doesn't disappear. If I click on a "remaing" Icon the Contents of the Disc is shown with nautilus - I can even navigate in the directory-tree.
Ubuntu 9.04 Gnome Desktop (although I have seen the same situation in other versions).When I have a removable media device installed such as a USB flash drive, a CD/DVD or an SD card in the built in reader I have a corresponding icon on the desktop. So here is my situation...I have a 16 GB SDHC card installed in the reader in my netbook as additional storage. As the main solid state "hard drive" itself is only 16 GB I leave the card in at all times. I would like to do away with the desktop icon as I never use it to access the SD card. Any way to do this? I believe it appear as part of the HAL process so perhaps it will go away with 10.04.
View 2 Replies View RelatedF12 completely patched. Can someone provide some insight into the various volume controls available and why they seem to conflict with each other? The incognito application that loads up on the task bar as a speaker icon keeps getting changed. I try to nail it at 100% but it keeps getting altered - how I don't know. BTW - I say its an incognito application as there is no way to identify what piece of software it actually represents. I assume it's the gnome-volume-control-applet, but there is no way to know for sure as it is devoid of any identification. I run rhythmbox and its volume control also gets altered from where I attempt to set it.
I assume that gnome-volume-control-applet is the master to set a limit on what anything else can do. I then assume that rhythmbos's volume control operates within the envelope that gnome-volume-control-applet allows. Both assumptions are probably wrong as nothing makes any sense. Maybe all the pulseaudio stuff is also in there somewhere messing with the controls, but I see no user space apps to influence pulseaudio. To top it off, I can push the volume control on rhythmbox around from 100% down to 16% and there is no discernible change in volume. When I hit 14% there is a halving of volume, and from there on down to 0% seems to function linearly as expected. Why is there this non responsive range between 16% and 100%?

Then I switch to another account on the same computer and nm-applet tray icon disappears! I have activated the option that all users may use the WLAN connection, but the tray-icon doesn't show up for other users. Only the one who logs in first sees it. Network connection is working properly, but the tray icon would be handy.
Trying to start nm-applet manually in terminal results in an error saying that nm-applet is already running (sure it is, on the first account that logged in). But is it possible to have the tray icon visible for all users?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using ubuntu 10.4 and accidently removed the notification area from the top panel. Since then, I haven't been able to retrieve the icon. As I've read in many threads, I've added a new panel and added a notification error, but the area stays empty. (see screenshot) My other icons like the volume control and the amarok icon were gone as well, but setting up a new indicator applet did the trick. Still, the skype icon won't come back, I've even removed Skype and reinstalled it, but nothing changed. how I could get the icon back again?

I use Pidgin for many protocols included the IRC, so I don't need Skype icon in the system tray at all. Honestly I hate Skype, but unfortunately it seems that all the world use it. how to take off that terrible icon/indicator/applet from the systray. I searched in all system to find a configuration file, I opened few named Skype using vi to avoid to damage them, but I have not found nothing interesting for my scope. PS: don't tell me how I will switch on or off Skype, because a plug-in of Pidgin do it w/o user interaction.

Skype: just installed 2.1.0.81-suse.i586rpm, starting it I get just the icon jumping on the desktop a bit and nothing else.

After that, I dont have preview about stored file images and even online, Google Images does not showing preview, just colored strips; if I go with the mouse on it, the image comes out.
I'm running Kubuntu Meerkat. If I set skype to start minimized automatically, it seems that it's running but there's no way to get to it. It shows up in the process list but there's no icon for it in the taskbar or anywhere else on the screen. Even worse, I can't just kill and restart it; if I kill it, it just comes back. If I issue the skype command from the K menu or from a command line, I get a complaint that another instance is already running.

The individual window "buttons" themselves keep changing size - flashing even, and the space between them also changes. It is driving me nuts! The little system tray(?) icons no longer appear in the system tray, but all stacked on top of each other in the top left corner.
