I just upgraded from wheezy 7.2.0 to jessie 8.2.0 . I am still running sys v init.
I cannot run bluetooth because bluetoothd dies with the error "Failed to access management interface"
Code: Select allllewelly@zorthluthik:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth start Starting bluetooth: bluetoothd. llewelly@zorthluthik:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth status bluetooth is not running ... failed! llewelly@zorthluthik:~$ sudo /usr/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd -n bluetoothd[3736]: Bluetooth daemon 5.23

All of the above worked fine before I upgraded.
Here is the bluetooth device section from lsusb -v :

My Lenovo laptop has an Intel Pro 4965 Wifi adapter, here is the "lspci" detection:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
So installed the needed "firmware-iwlwifi" kernel module, which is a correct kernel module for this adapter.
Then "modprobe -a iwlwifi"........no complaints !
However, #iwconfig wlan0 wlan0 No such device and # lsmod |grep iwlwifi iwlwifi 87219 0 cfg80211 350041 4 iwl4965,iwlwifi,iwlegacy,mac80211

when I go to "Preferences" "Network Connection" ' "Add" "WI-FI" "Create" "Device MAC Address " box is empty.......no Wi-Fi adapter detected !!!
I've gone though the system purging/removing what I don't require on my Fedora install using the graphical tool in gnome 3. I then used package-cleanup --leaves to clean up some cruft left behind. yum list installed shows I still have 1031 packages installed, which is about 400 more than similar setups I used to have on Debian, and truthfully on Debian I have more stuff installed that I've still got to install here (gimp, nvidia drivers, etc).
I see a buch of stuff in yum list installed I don't need, so I can use yum remove foo to cleanup some more, but I'm wondering if there's another graphical interface or perhaps and advacned option in the add/remove software application I've been using thus far.
I'm looking for a Postfix Management Web interface for user, domains, etc... The problem is I'm not using mysql for domains/users, so I can't use postfixadmin. I use virtual mailboxes as described here: [URL]
Basically all mappings are saved inside an /etc/postfix/vmaps file. The users/passwords files are in /home/vmail/passwd and /home/vmail/shadow. Users are in /home/vmail/$domain/$user
I searched for a web management tool that supports my config for weeks now, and can't seem to find any...
After updating and subsequently restarting today, I can no longer bring up my wireless interface:
ifup wlan0 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 Could not set interface 'wlan0' UP SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132 Failed to bring up wlan0
iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.

I am running the commands as ROOT. I also tried: setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 3 uart 16550A skip_test but I am getting the same stty: /dev/ttyS3: Input/output error

lsof /dev/ttyS3 doesn't return anything so it means there is nothing connected to ttyS3 I guess but I am not very skilled with linux so I might be mistaken
Why I can see 4 ttyS* in my Linux but physically I have only 2 physical Serial Ports on the board?
I loaded Avast anti virus into Ubuntu 10.10 this morning. It seemed to go okay and uploaded the updates. But then it stopped. Now when I try to start it I get the following error message. 'An error occurred in avast! engine: Invalid argument'
My PC has an internal combustion engine.Yes, it has.Every morning, when it's cold (at my work place), I start my pc, and it takes a loooong-looooong time for debian etch to boot. And after it started, if I want to open a file / program / folder, it takes more than 2 minutes to open them. After about 10 minutes of PC being ON, everything goes back to normal speed. This started to happen since last winter. If I leave the heat on over night in my room at work, next day when I start my pc it works perfect from the first time.
I'm using debian etch - clamav.clamscan states: >> This version of the ClamAV engine is outdated.<<which is correct, my system is using 0.95.3 in vola you find 0.96
I have been using Epiphany for about 10 days now. It seems that suddenly my search engine was changed from Google to VirginMedia.I cannot find any option to set the default search engine, either in Epiphany preferences or in gconf-editor.Can anyone explain how this change has occurred or how I might get back to having Google as my default search engine? I am using Debian Lenny 5 and Epiphany 2.22.3
I need help about the error in my website. I have the following error....
Code: user warning: Got error 134 from storage engine query: SELECT data, created, headers, expire, serialized FROM cache WHERE cid = 'theme_registry:database1' in /var/www/html/web/includes/cache.inc on line 26.
I am runing debian-5 (lenny), the default kernel 2.6.26 was unable to start the x so i installed the new kernel linux-image-2.6.32-5-686_2.6.32-28_i386.deb, now x works, but there is problem building modules for the intel soft modem linux driver hsfmodem-7.60.00.00oem which is supplied in the modem cd by the intel company.
I installed these kernel packages for this purpose: linux-base_2.6.32-28_all.deb linux-image-2.6.32-5-686_2.6.32-28_i386.deb linux-headers-2.6.32-5-486_2.6.32-28_i386.deb
[code]....
in all these cases hsfconfig failed with the above error,
I made a basic installation of Debian on my Power Mac G4. It worked well, but now, when I start up, after introducing my password, I have something like this
myname@debian:~$
What shall I do now? I hoped for a graphical interface...
I've got an Atom-based EeePC1000 with 2.6.34-0.slh.11-sidux-686.The DebianEeePC wiki ( as the following information. As of kernel 2.6.30, the "Super Hybrid Engine" is supported: /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/cpufv contains a value which is 256× the number of available settings plus the current setting; you write a number n (0 ≤ n < number of available settings) to it to alter the setting.
I have just installed debian-live-8.3.0-i386-lxde on my old hp530 32-bit laptop
Everything went well but every time I start my laptop I get following message which lasts for approx 1m 20s ...
Code: Select allLoading, please wait... fsck from util-linux 2.25.2 fsck error 2 (No such file or directory) while executing fsck.ext4 for /dev/sda1 fsck exited with status code 8 [Â 13.941532] systemd-fsck[145]: DEBIAN8: clean,140919/640848 files, 978992/2560942 blocks [ ***]A start job is running for LSB: Raise network interfaces. ... then it boots OK into operating system. so apart from the delay everything is working ok.
I am running a NFS share on a Debian Lenny server with to network interface.
Sometimes when booting the server the following messages i shown in syslog:
Code:
If the system is rebooted then NFS is functional again. I would like to know way this happens somtimes so i can repair it, anyone with an idea? Another thing is that i would like to bind the NFS service to a specific interface e.g eth1 is this possible?
I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 lts server on my Intel "fakeraid" (software raid) (2x250 sata). To test my RAID 1 I turned off one HD and start the system. The first screen (Intel software screen) show Status = Degraded, but the system starts normally with just one HD.Then I turned off the system and turned on the HD again, so the first screen (Intel software screen) shows Status = Rebuild. If I enter in the software raid panel the folowing message is showed: "Volumes with "Rebuild" status will be rebuilt within the operating system"The system starts normally... but this message status stays permanently even I restart the system again
I have an HP pavilion laptop with core i5 4210U that has intel HD4400 graphics. I installed debian wheezy 7.7 after shrinking win 8 and freeing 350GB for debian. I went through the hurdle of making a UEFI bootable USB drive and the system dual boots fine. But once I boot debian, I get all the run time messages and then login prompt flashes and the whole screen is blank except for a prompt on top left. I can open a terminal but that's about it. I'm unable to remotely login (connection refused) from either windows using moba terminal or another debian machine.
I searched the internet and found : [URL] ....
I tried the apt-get but it failed saying:
Code: Select allE: The value "wheezy-backports" is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources
In case I have to install Debian testing version that some said worked, how do I get rid of my current installation, which is UEFI? Do I just erase its partitions in windows? Then what happens to its UEFI boot manager? Just leave it there to rot? If I install again with debian testing version, I envision some problems of the grub UEFI boot manager thinking that the debian 7.7 is still there and try to boot to it. I do have the partition images in partition manager home version 12 so I could just restore the UEFI partition.

I'd like to install Debian on Lenovo Z70-80 notebook (Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2) integrated + NVIDIA Geforce 840M, 17" 1920x1080 IPS).
The installer's screen is OK, but after install, when the screen switches to higher resolution: the notebook's internal screen starts to oscillate fast. Not the whole screen in one block, but line by line: moving 2 px to left, and back, with ~10Hz. I can read everything, but it's very disturbing of course.
If I connect an external display, there is no oscillation, but sometimes lost signal (black screen for a half second), or if I drag and move a window, the backgound changes, big pixels will appear, etc.
I tried it with Windows 7 and Ubuntu: there wasn't any problem, so I think the hardware is OK. (But I had the some problem with CentOS 7.)
I tried the 340.65 Nvidia driver ([URL].... ), although may be this is the integrated Intel card's problem.
I tried this too: [URL].... but I'm not sure I made everything correct (I'm new in Linux).
Does anyone know any software or tricks how slow down cpu. The aplet on top panel whose control cpu freq allow set only 2Ghz. On windows to EPU-Six i can for example set 1,8Ghz and automaticly vcore drop to 0,967V. On ubuntu the lower value is 2Ghz and 1,1V. I have Asus P5Q PRO on P45 chipset and Core 2 Duo E8400 on Ubuntu 9.10
I've looked through the forums and found that installing openmotif may fix my problem. I tried it but to no avail. Here is my challenge, I'm trying to install Grid Engine on my VMWare fedora installation. I get this dependency error:
Quote: rpm -i sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libXm.so.3()(64bit) is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64 libXp.so.6()(64bit) is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64 sun-sge-common = 6.2 is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64
I installed the latest version of openmotif and when I do a search for the two files, there is no libxm.so.3 but libxp.so.6 is there. When I try to install the rpm again I still get the exact same error.
