General :: Install Grid Engine On VMWare Installation?
Mar 11, 2010
I've looked through the forums and found that installing openmotif may fix my problem. I tried it but to no avail. Here is my challenge, I'm trying to install Grid Engine on my VMWare fedora installation. I get this dependency error:
Quote:
rpm -i sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libXm.so.3()(64bit) is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64
libXp.so.6()(64bit) is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64
sun-sge-common = 6.2 is needed by sun-sge-bin-linux24-x64-6.2-5.x86_64
I installed the latest version of openmotif and when I do a search for the two files, there is no libxm.so.3 but libxp.so.6 is there. When I try to install the rpm again I still get the exact same error.
I am somewhat familiar with SGE (Sun Grid Engine, now Oracle Grid Engine) commands but am having a problem when running parallel jobs.
Present Machine configuration: machine I - 12 cpus machine II - 12 cpus machine III - 12 cpus .... so on ... One_machine - 16 cpus
(I have all machine of 12 cpus and 1 machine having 16 cpus)
I want to schedule jobs on these machine such that if I ask for 12 cpus - my jobs should execute on any of the machines which has all 12 free cpus (eg machine I or machine II) in this case.
Eg. suppose I ask for 24 cpus
Option I : 12@machine1 12@machine2 ----- I need this
Options II : 10@machin1 10@machine2 4@machine3 ---- I don't need such a distribution
Hence, Option I is ideal here. Also, when running 12 jobs on machine1 (say) - even if all 12 cpus are not being used at some instance of time, none of the 12 cpus should be freed. In short, until my run finishes, all blocked cpus should remain blocked.
If you may understand, the purpose here is to run some performance tests.
It basically stats Octave and run a file I typed after. So if I need to submit it through sun grid engine how would I type it in command line or how should I do it in the sun grid engine control panel. I tried qsub -o <my path> -e <my path> run_octave Myfile.m (Myfile.m is the file I need to run)
I am trying to install sun grid engine. Doing my ME in madurai, Thiagarajar engineering college. While loading files on workstation, it shows set ur environment variable. But I set that variable as sge-root, also checked it with echo command.
Just bought a new computer and installed Lucid 64 bit. On my old PC, I had Lucid 32 bit. There I installed Grid using the instructions on this page: [URL]... But now, on the new computer, i cannot do it. I get the error:
Code: rumtscho@bradbury:~/tmp/grid$ git-checkout 1281082ba678033e515a19419ca8ffe8641d744b.git-checkout: command not found. I did install everything mentioned in the instruction, including git-core. The git-clone row worked without errors. So why cannot I finish the installation?
I don't care if I get Grid from the git repository or from some other source (I don't understand why it is missing from ccsm in the first place, it got installed automatically under 9.10),
I have installed fc12 on my core2due machine, and I have installed the vmware server on it, its rpm is installed successfully with out any error, after that a message is displayed
The installation of VMware Server 2.0.2 for Linux completed successfully. You can decide to remove this software from your system at any time by invoking the following command: "rpm -e VMware-server".
Before running VMware Server for the first time, you need to configure it for your running kernel by invoking the following command: "/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl".
I tried this command and find the this message
[Akram@localhost Downloads]$ su -c "/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl" Password: Making sure services for VMware Server are stopped.
None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes] yes
Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.
Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.4.2", while you are trying to use "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.4.3". This configuration is not recommended and VMware Server may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.4.3" anyway? [no] yes
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel?[/usr/src/linux/include]
Now it asks me in last lines that "What is the location of Directory of C header files that match your running kernal?"
Is it possible to install Snow Leopard 10.6.6 VMware AMD edition (which I downloaded) on VMware linux? It is under Windows 7 so I just need to know if everything of VMware linux (like Hardware Virtualization) is the same under linux as for Windows.
I want to install debian on vmware workstation 7.1.4 but there's a problem! when I try to install vmware tools or open-vm, it can't complete compile modules of vmware. It is a big problem... It seem problem of kernel version after 2.6.37... But I can't find solution. logs.... Before you can compile modules, you need to have the following installed...
Actually I found a discussion on this topic. But my problem a bit different from the discussion made over there...The major discussion in that topic is related to the Graphics Issue. But my problem is with the CPU(as my machine says so).... I am posting my screenshot herewith. Please take some time to review it. This would be grateful.
Actually the error says: "This Kernel requires an x86-64 CPU. but only detected i686 CPU. Unable to Boot - please use a kernel appropriate for ur CPU." What does this mean?? My machine has Intel Core 2 Duo t6600 processor. Is Virtualization Playing a role in this issue...??
Im trying to install Murrine engine on fedora 11, but it looks like the version that is on the repositories is too old Now, im trying to install the svn, but when i type the following command
Code:
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --enable-animation
i get the following:
Code:
You should update your `aclocal.m4' by running aclocal. aclocal:configure.ac:14: warning: macro `AM_DISABLE_STATIC' not found in library aclocal:configure.ac:16: warning: macro `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL' not found in library
I've seen a number of instructions online that say to add either the elementary art ppa or the murrine daily ppa to get the 0.98 murrine engine installed. I did that but it only installs 0.91. I checked synaptic to see if I can force the version to install, but still, no dice. 0.91 is the highest version I can seem to install.
I also tried compiling from source, which appeared to run w/o any issues, but I must be missing something because it appears to not have any affect.
I have been using VMware Player for some time to host Fedora VMware images on Windows XP. I have been using Fedora 11 and 12 (both 32 and 64 bit) and recently started to use Fedora 13.
I use as a base the images provided by thoughtpolice. http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/
I usually install VMware tools and also keep the images updated (yum update) which sometimes changes the kernel.
I have recently had problems with the snapshots not having a network when I restore them. So far I don't have the problem with Fedora 11 and do have it with Fedora 12 (but used not to). I do have it with Fedora 13.
In each case the problem goes away when I uninstall the VMware tools and comes back when I install them again.
One of the symptoms is that SElinux complains about not being able to do something with /var/run/vmware-active-nics.
It looks to me that something is incorrect in the actions being taken when the snapshot is being restored. It does not happen every time and sometimes the network restores itself.
The network can be restored by rebooting the image.
I'm trying to access the VMWare console from firefox using the VMWare plugin. The problem is that it doesn't work on Firefox version 3.6.8. So how can I access the console?
I have Vmware Fusion 2.0.6 (196839) running on my MacBook Pro. I installed Fedora 11 on the fusion and it works fine. The only problem that I am having is that when I try to install vmware tools, by runnning ./vmware-install.pl in the terminal, I am prompted with this message: What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
If I press Enter, the same message pops up. I am fairly new to linux, and I am just setting this up so I can set up a web server on this virtual machine for testing purposes.
Ubuntu 10.10 My wife wanted to use a new gtk-theme so she used the option "download more themes" and installed a new gtk-theme. The theme was not vissible for her so she just chose another default one. Now when ever either of us login into our accounts the default internal gtk-theme is used (the ugly grey square one). When we start the themes application (don't know the english name for it, it enables you to choose another theme for your desktop). The previously selected theme is then enabled even before the window of the util is shown.
I get an unhandled exception when installing CentOS 5.5 64bit in vmware. In the details the tracebacks most recent calls seemingly involve python. I have uploaded an image of the exception window:
