Debian Hardware :: Aspire One Fan Not Turning Off

Jul 6, 2015

I have an Aspire One ZG5, Stretch/Sid, fully updated.In modprobe.d I have acerhdf.conf with:

Code: Select alloptions acerhdf kernelmode=1 interval=10 fanon=65000 fanoff=60000

When the temp reaches 65c the fan comes on, but never shuts off. The fan does cool the cpu.If remove the module, and then modprobe it, the fan stops until the cpu reaches 65c.how to get the fan to shut off properly?

Debian :: Turning OFF The EEE Touchpad

Jan 2, 2011

I have posted questions on several Linux forums that asked how I could turn off the touchpad on my new EEE-900A netbook. There is a backstory that is not that relevant, but in a nutshell, I got this tiny low-power computer to be my voice since my speech is impaired. Only the latest Debian has the tools I needed.

After much searching, suggested that I remove the touchpad driver; the command as root: # rmmod psmouse

Did the trick. On the 900A, the protocol that handles the touchpad is the PS/2. Removing the psmouse driver module does not affect my USB mouse, so now I can use my USB mouse and type away with my left hand and bumping into the touchpad doesn't screw things up. In other words: Success. (I am being as explicit as possible so that all search engines will find this.

Debian Hardware :: Backlight Occasionally Not Turning On After Suspend?

Oct 20, 2010

I have been running Squeeze for quite a while on my Asus W5F laptop, and recently I have started having intermittent issues with it not starting the backlight after returning from suspend/sleep. Most of the time, the screen comes on as it is supposed to, but once in a while the computer resumes but the backlight is off. It is not just turned down to the lowest brightness setting, it is all the way off. I can read the screen only if I take a flashlight and shine it on the screen and look very closely. Most of the time, it is just easier to go to another machine and use ssh to restart.

I'm not familiar with how the suspend/resume process works, so I don't really know where to look for configuration options. It seems like there are a number of different places, but how they work together, I don't know....

Neither the keyboard brightness adjustment nor echoing values to /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCDD/brightness have any effect, though these do work to change the brightness when the backlight is on.

I took a look in /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-suspend-linux, which shows the following options.
[ "$HAL_PROP_POWER_MANAGEMENT_QUIRK_S3_BIOS" = "true" ] && QUIRKS="$QUIRKS --quirk-s3-bios"
[ "$HAL_PROP_POWER_MANAGEMENT_QUIRK_S3_MODE" = "true" ] && QUIRKS="$QUIRKS --quirk-s3-mode"

[Code]....

The laptop is several years old and has had the lcd display replaced a year or two ago. It is possible that it is a hardware failure, but I lean away from that because a restart always brings the screen up fine, as does closing and opening the lid (which blacks the screen, no suspend).

Debian Hardware :: How To Boot Live Jessie On Aspire E15

Dec 28, 2015

I'm new on this forum, but not new on linux and in general on Ubuntu and Debian and I've always programmed on these OS but I still have a long way, however, in fact I have a new Aspire E15 573G in which there is the UEFI that creates many problem on the boot of different systems but I need to change Windows 10 to Debian or to have both them because I hated Windows.

I searched in many sites to find because my debian live charged on my usb pen doesn't boot in any manner, I read that the live debian still does not start on UEFI systems but I still BELIEVE that there is a method to boot it up and I found this: [URL].....

So my request to you for now is what are the boot parameters to set to the liveboot.nsh? because that configuration doesn't solve the problem, Debian wanted ACPI disabled so I modified the .nsh but still there's the black screen.

Debian Hardware :: Internal SD Reader On Acer Aspire One?

Jun 7, 2011

I've recently acquired a little 10" netbook (Acer Aspire One D255) and am running Debian squeeze on it. It runs great except for the internal SD card reader, which doesn't do anything. If I have a USB card reader handy then it works fine, but it would be nice to have the internal card reader working if possible.

/var/log/messages says this:usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf2, idProduct=6250
usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=4
usb 1-5: Product: UB6250
usb 1-5: Manufacturer: ENE FlashBut no device is created and nothing can be mounted.

Doing a little searching reveals many similar complaints from last year, without particularly satisfactory solutions, but I can't find anything more recent. Does anyone know if there's a Debian fix for this yet? By which I mean a simple fix involving adding a module package or maybe upgrading to a wheezy kernel or something like that?

Debian Hardware :: Acer Aspire One - Synaptics Touchpad Not Working At All?

Apr 1, 2011

I tried to create an xorg.conf because I didn't have one already. I put the configuration for the synaptics touchpad in it and in the gnome preferences/mouse my touchpad actually was recognized by its name. But still it didn't work :/ I tried deleting my xorg.conf and making a xorg.conf.d directory with synaptics.conf because I saw someone recommend it in another thread. But now the gnome/mouse settings doesn't see it and it still doesn't work. I've read several threads from Arch Linux's forums saying it may be that the module is loaded twice, but I really have no idea.

Here's the /proc/bus/input/devices:

Will I have to go through similar gymnastics to get Debian to work on my system; or do you think it will work right away?

Hardware :: Detecting Acer Aspire Hardware On Debian 5.0.5?

Aug 17, 2010

You can move this to the Debian subforum if you see fit, but here's my problem. (I'm running Debian Lenny, 5.0.5)Aside from the microphone, webcam and speakers not working (which I would also like to have recognized at some point; at least the speakers, anyway)

Through someone helping me grep and lpsci, I have determined that the eth0 is Broadcom Device 1692 and the WiFi card is Broadcom Device 4537.I have tried to get thru installing NdisWrapper but always run into the same problem. I'm able to run this line

Code:

aptitude install module-assistant wireless-tools fine without any problems (do I need to download anything and put it on the PC I've got Debian running on?).. but as soon as I get to the next section, the terminal freezes up and gives me a diagnostic:

Code:

Installation of the ndiswrapper-source source failed. Ignoring this package. Maybe you need to add something to sources.list, maybe the contrib and non-free archives. So, how do I go about installing the right drivers and getting ndiswrapper set up?

Ubuntu :: Turning Off The Unnecessary

Dec 2, 2010

Having just successfully installed fallout 3 (yippee), one question arises.

Is it possible to turn off (and eventually back on) all superfluous process during gaming ? As an ex-win xp user, there was an app called "game booster", i think, that did this.

The process i have in mind are things like fancy compiz settings, dockbar X, and any upgrades that might be taking place in the background.

Again, it is important that i can restart these functions after kicking super-mutant ***.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 - Monitor Turning Off

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my PC. Installation went smoothly, and I can boot it and log in.

If i leave it there running, nothing happens, but as soon as i try to run an application (Firefox, Update Manager, etc), the screen turns off and I can't do anything else anymore except reboot.

I was able to apply the latest updates using apt-get update from the terminal (one of the very few apps that doesn't turn the screen off), but can't get rid of the problem, what can i do?

My PC is a Intel Core i5 PC with a Nvidia Gefore 210 graphics card.

I was able to install the proprietary drivers for Nvidea, no change. Both Unity and "Ubuntu Classic" have this issue

Fedora Installation :: Turning *.iso Into A Bootable CD?

Feb 27, 2009

I downloaded the *.iso for a Fedora 10 Live KDE installation. It is currently on my hard drive. I tried burning it to a CD with Roxio using two different methods. The first one was not a bootable method. So I checked the Roxio documentation and burned the image that way. In burning an *.iso to a bootable image on a disc, Roxio asks for three different file types, none of which are *.iso. I selected my *.iso because that was all I had. Then I burned it as a bootable to a CD.

When I tried to boot it, I got a black screen with a message at the top left reading something like there was no operating system available. I thought that was strange, and I do not know what to do.

None of them are computer savvy, so it would also help me out considerably if I knew how this was turned on without the use of the terminal.
