Debian Hardware :: Internal SD Reader On Acer Aspire One?

I've recently acquired a little 10" netbook (Acer Aspire One D255) and am running Debian squeeze on it. It runs great except for the internal SD card reader, which doesn't do anything. If I have a USB card reader handy then it works fine, but it would be nice to have the internal card reader working if possible.

Doing a little searching reveals many similar complaints from last year, without particularly satisfactory solutions, but I can't find anything more recent. Does anyone know if there's a Debian fix for this yet? By which I mean a simple fix involving adding a module package or maybe upgrading to a wheezy kernel or something like that?
I have an Acer Aspire One running Fedora 10.The Aspire One has a built in multi-format memory card reader compatible with SDHC, XD, Memory Stick Pro and MMC cards, however the card reader is only detected during bootup if a card is inserted otherwise the device isn't detected, the relevant drivers aren't loaded and the card reader doesn't work.
In other words if Fedora is booted without a card in the reader and I then want to use the card reader I have to insert a card and reboot in order to use it, after which cards can be inserted & removed and are detected and automounted with no problems.When the card reader is working lsmod shows the following modules are loaded.

If the laptop is booted without a card in the reader none this shows up. I've also tried manually loading the mmc_core, mmc_block, sdhci, memstick & jmb38x_ms modules to see if this kicks the reader into life but it doesn't. Is there a way of forcing the detection of this device during bootup?
I recently bought a new Acer Aspire and installed Lenny, I can get a wired network/internet connection however not a wireless connection. I use wicd. Bluetooth doesn't work either though I suspect that it might be the same issue.
Don't know if it helps however when I tpye iwconfig I get: ladb:/home/nigel# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.
Didn't see a guide on this on the wiki. Correct me if I'm wrong and feel free to add some tips. After upgrading to Kernel 3.1.16-0-4 my Acer Aspire ES1-311 freezes during startup. I can still enter the recovery mode maintainer shell (sometimes), but sometimes it also freezes after giving me the root shell prompt.
I tried to create an xorg.conf because I didn't have one already. I put the configuration for the synaptics touchpad in it and in the gnome preferences/mouse my touchpad actually was recognized by its name. But still it didn't work :/ I tried deleting my xorg.conf and making a xorg.conf.d directory with synaptics.conf because I saw someone recommend it in another thread. But now the gnome/mouse settings doesn't see it and it still doesn't work. I've read several threads from Arch Linux's forums saying it may be that the module is loaded twice, but I really have no idea.
I have an Acer Aspire 5102 notebook computer with the infamous Broadcom 4318 chipset. In the past I have had to install FW cutter & proprietary drivers to get this chipset to work with Ubuntu. With the release of Ubuntu 10.10 Marverick Meercat I seem to remember the WiFi working immediately after installation; although I could be mistaken.
Will I have to go through similar gymnastics to get Debian to work on my system; or do you think it will work right away?
Acer Aspire S7-391 laptop, 64 bit install Previous was Debian 7.6, no issues.
Not doing anything special, just browsing the web and I get a few of these soft lockups. Cannot reboot, have to power it off and on when it happens. USB stops working also.
I have a laptop Acer Aspire 4551-2194. I've installed Debian Squeeze with XFCE and it works great. I have only one problem. I can go through hibernation / suspend, but when I push the power button, the computer hangs. It doesn't come back and I must reboot it.
You can move this to the Debian subforum if you see fit, but here's my problem. (I'm running Debian Lenny, 5.0.5)Aside from the microphone, webcam and speakers not working (which I would also like to have recognized at some point; at least the speakers, anyway)
Through someone helping me grep and lpsci, I have determined that the eth0 is Broadcom Device 1692 and the WiFi card is Broadcom Device 4537.I have tried to get thru installing NdisWrapper but always run into the same problem. I'm able to run this line

aptitude install module-assistant wireless-tools fine without any problems (do I need to download anything and put it on the PC I've got Debian running on?).. but as soon as I get to the next section, the terminal freezes up and gives me a diagnostic:

Installation of the ndiswrapper-source source failed. Ignoring this package. Maybe you need to add something to sources.list, maybe the contrib and non-free archives.So, how do I go about installing the right drivers and getting ndiswrapper set up?
i tried to install ubuntu 9.10 in my acer aspire lap. i got the ubuntu CD by parcel.i was able to select the language, then second option -install ubuntu also went rite, after that nothing is happening. how can i correct it?
now the thing is im bit of a dumb girl when it comes to computers. Apparently I need to install some Java software just to get my pictures on my facebook. I have tried following the instructions at Java but i am a total newbie lol

I have a new computer with with an SSD internal drive, built in SD card reader, and USB expansion ports.If I populate media in all slots and type "fdisk -l" I get a listing of the partitions for the external USB ports but fdisk doesn't report anything for the internal media. If I unplug the USB drives and type fdisk it just goes to the command line. If I type "df" it locates the partitions for the internal SSD drive but doesn't report anything for the media in the built in reader. If I type "mount" the same thing.
I've looked in /dev/ but I can't find anything that looks like something I can mount. I'd expect something like sda1 or something similar but it's not there. The contents of /media/ do report something called "card" but going there and typing "ls" doesn't get me any result. There is also an entry for "mmc1" but it too doesn't report anything.
i bought an Acer aspire one through an official acer website and i got it for cheaper than a XP one, i got it with Linux on it. As i am someone that looks for a great deal. i took it, I then realized that Linux is pretty hard to operate.can i replace linux with window?
I am trying to install Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 with 1 GB of memory.
I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.
When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.
Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.
I recently installed openSuSE 11.2 on an Acer Aspire One, but when the installer try to start the new kernel with kexec it hang up, and if I reboot the system it hang up always, also says that the Acer BIOS is unknown.
in compliance with bonekracker's advice, i have reposted my SOS. i have the result of the outputs of the commands for ifconfig, iwconfig, and etc i have uploaded it in the file output.doc. i hope this would be helpful in debugging my problem.but before that, i do notice that if i click on the icon for the Network Manager, the Wireless networks is set to 'wireless disabled'. maybe if i can make it turn on, my wireless problem will be solved.. its just that i even if i move the switch for the wifi, it still wouldn't turn on.

I tried to install the beta version of maverick with no luck. I used usb creator to put maverick on a memory stick. When I went into live mode everything worked perfectly so I thought why not install it. I then tried to do this but after filling out all the required info it wouldn't install. I clicked the install button and the installer froze up. I currently have ubuntu netbook remix (9.04) installed on it in desktop mode. I also, awhile ago, try installing lucid (both desktop and netbook remixes) and had a similar problem with them. They both stalled installing at the 15% mark. Now with this problem with maverick I am wondering why this could be happening. I have used different memory sticks so I have ruled that out as a problem. They all have worked flawlessly and speedily in live mode.
I have just installed Meerkat on an Acer Aspire laptop, it can see various wireless networks but for some reason can't connect to them. However when I turn my HTC Desire into a hotspot it connects to that fine. Why can it connect to my phone yet not any routers?
My Acer AspireOne netbook has a native resolution of 1024x600. Most times I start up, the image is 800x480 against the left edge, black bar on the right side, and a repeated image at the bottom. (I can attach a picture if needed.)I've been seeing this problem since Ubuntu 9.10, but it's more common recently with 10.10. If I keep shutting down and powering back on, eventually it will come up in 1024x600 as I desire. If that happens, then I avoid shutting down and only use Suspend instead. However, anytime I need to reboot (for updates, etc.) the 800x480 comes back.
The Acer logo / BIOS splash screen is also in 800x480, but I only see it switch back to 1024x600 after Ubuntu loads and is shut down. (Repeatedly clicking on/off/on/off never results in the resolution changing to 1024x600.) So, I'm still suspicious that Ubuntu is causing this (no hardware). WinXP used to be on this machine, and the problem was never seen.I don't think any proprietary drivers are needed (but I am still a Ubuntu noob.) When the problem is occurring, I see this result for xrandr:

I haven't been able to find xorg.conf ... but I've read that recent versions of Ubuntu create the content dynamically.Not sure what other details I should be including, at the risk of making this post too long.
I have an Acer Aspire One with Linux operating system.Using Easy Peasy.No optical drive of course, but have bought an external one.The AA One recognises it and I want it primarily to install a program which is on CD. Familiar with Windows but a novice with Linux.
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.4 as a dual boot on my Acer Aspire 0ne 533. I have to keep the Windows partition for work, or I'd have just installed Ubuntu. I'm used to plugging in an ethernet cable for the first round of updates until I get the WiFi working, but it just isn't working for me this time. I have a horrid feeling that Windows has a way of hogging the Ethernet card.
I had a look in the forums, and could not find anything referring to this specifically, which is unusual because as far as I can tell the AA1 is a popular machine and lots of people dual boot it. Perhaps it is an easy fix that's been buried in the archives?
I've got an Acer Aspire AM3920 (Intel Core i5) Desktop PC. I want to upgrade my Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat to Natty Narwhal, but it just isn't working. I've tried to upgrade two times, both resulting in a crash while installing. When I try to install it from a Live CD, I'm getting a black screen and when I press a key in the purple screen of the Live CD and select nomodeset, it doesn't work either. So my question is: Is it possible to install/run Ubuntu 11.04 on this PC?
A friend here in Mexico recently bought an AOA150 Acer Aspire netbook with Linpus Lite. It seems to be an excellent machine, except it has the dreaded microphone problem, which seems to be fixable, a lot of solutions on Google. So, I don't want to get into that now. I happen to have a Mitzu "stereo condensor microphone" can't remember where I got it, still in the package. It warns the computer must have a sound card input for it. So, how do I find out if it does? Can a microphone hurt the computer?
