I have a laptop Acer Aspire 4551-2194. I've installed Debian Squeeze with XFCE and it works great. I have only one problem. I can go through hibernation / suspend, but when I push the power button, the computer hangs. It doesn't come back and I must reboot it.
View 4 RepliesI recently bought a new Acer Aspire and installed Lenny, I can get a wired network/internet connection however not a wireless connection. I use wicd. Bluetooth doesn't work either though I suspect that it might be the same issue.
Don't know if it helps however when I tpye iwconfig I get:

I have installed the 13.1 usbboot.img to a usb stick and tried to boot up an acer aspire one aod751 but it hangs when it come to the onboard webcam.I am guessing that there is no driver for this webcam.There is no way to disable the usb cam in the bios setup.Is there a command that can be given at boot so that there is no attempt to load the driver for this webcam?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Aspire Revo 3700 installed fine. I did the commands on this page to prevent the system from hanging on shutdown and reboot, and it went fine.
Against my better judgement, I allowed the system to install a new nvidia driver a couple days ago. Some other stuff was updated as well, so I don't know where to pin the problem.
The Problem: Now, when I shutdown or reboot the system, the system hangs with the Ubuntu logo on screen.

I have an Acer Aspire 1410 laptop which was running Win7. The laptop lacks a DVD drive and came pre-installed with a recovery partition as well.I've been searching for ways to dual-boot Fedora on it. I bought a Samsung USB DVD drive, but I burned two copies of Fedora 12 and neither would boot, nor would my Knoppix Live CD. I even updated the bios. Then I tried liveusb-creator from my desktop Fedora 10 system, but I would still run into strange errors that prevented booting into the installer.
Finally I downloaded UNetbootin and created a USB stick to boot Fedora 12. Neither Fedora 12 nor Ubuntu would recognize my network adaptor for some reason. Undaunted, I then used UNetbootin to create a Fedora 11 image which got me into the boot installer for the first time. I then used my Fedora 12 image from my portable DVD drive to install. The install seemed to go well.
That is, until I rebooted. Grub came up as expected. Fedora 12 runs into a very early Kernel panic (not syncing: DMAR hardware is malfunctioning) within moments. I tried rebooting into Windows, but it apparently doesn't care much for Grub. It sends me into the Recovery software and asks me to reset my hard drive. I've tried that a couple of times now and it's useless. Is the problem with Grub? I thought it would play nicely with Win7 and at least allow me to boot into it, which is why I allowed it to overwrite my MBR. I lack a Win7 disc and cannot repair the MBR that way.
I upgraded my wife's old Acer Aspire 1350 laptop to Lucid Lynx, which works fine, except for the fact that the splash screen both when the OS boots and is shut down is completely garbled and unreadable. The screen is also unreadable when accessing a tty via CTRL+ALT+F2 etc. The GNOME desktop resolution is completely unaffected and is perfectly usable. The splash screen works on MY desktop PC, but it does seem to be using some strange video timings, as my monitor recognises it as 640x480 but doesn't seem able to centre the screen properly. I strongly suspect that this is the cause of problem and my wife's laptop display just does not like the video mode. If I plug my wife's laptop into my monitor, it displays OK.

I have Debian Jessie 8 installed on a Acer 5733 Laptop. After I closed the screen, it goes sleeping, and when I open it, aleatory, it freezes. I don't have graphical interface, and the tty are not accessible. Sometimes, I get access to the computer 10 seconds, and then freeze.I have to shutdown the computer...and lose my work I was doing.I thought it was a X-problem, but the tty don't work too, so it's not ? I have tried the following techniques to try and boot from CD on my Acer Aspire 5515 laptop: Change SATA information to Native in BIOS. Set the Boot order for the CD/DVD Drive to start first, along with Main driver starting second.

BIOS Version is V1.0 (latest) from Acer.

I have still not been successfully able to boot from CD. No matter if it says to boot from CD/DVD Drive first, it skips on to Main driver and starts Windows. It's not because I didn't burn the .ISO image right, because it worked on my desktop, which is ALSO an Acer, an Acer Aspire T180. What I am trying to do, is install Windows XP Professional, and dual-boot it with my Windows Vista. Only thing is, it WON'T boot from CD.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy landlord upstairs just got a new modem and WiFi by Clear.com and when trying to get the WiFi to work...it just wouldn't connect with my laptop. They have 2 computers upstairs, one laptop and one desktop that recognized the WiFi and don't have any trouble using it. Wondering if there is something I have accidently clicked or changed to make it not connect. It does not have an error message, it just does not connect completely.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed 10.04 on an Acer 4736 laptop and was prompted for a software update of about 170 MB.
I went through with the update downloads and installation, got an error message of some packages not being found, and clicked on the "close" button on the dialogue to finish with the whole thing.
Now the Update Manager window with the grayed-out package updates didn't go away, and the cursor would always show the "busy" circle thing. I waited for a while, but nothing happened. I tried opening Firefox to check for anything about this on the net, but it wouldn't open.
So I left it alone, and it the screen went black (screensaver, I guess). When I tried to get back to the desktop, I couldn't. Screen wouldn't respond and it stayed black; no password prompt or anything.
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace wouldn't take me back to the login screen either.
I've recently acquired a little 10" netbook (Acer Aspire One D255) and am running Debian squeeze on it. It runs great except for the internal SD card reader, which doesn't do anything. If I have a USB card reader handy then it works fine, but it would be nice to have the internal card reader working if possible.

Doing a little searching reveals many similar complaints from last year, without particularly satisfactory solutions, but I can't find anything more recent. Does anyone know if there's a Debian fix for this yet? By which I mean a simple fix involving adding a module package or maybe upgrading to a wheezy kernel or something like that?
I have an Acer 4810T laptop with Intel graphics. I run openSUSE 11.3, and am about to upgrade to 11.4. But both systems still have a very bad bug with screen brightness. The Fn+Arrow keys do change screen brightness, but after using them the system is rendered extremely sluggish and unresponsive. This sluggishness is most pronounced with a very important Wine app I need to use. The only way to fix the sluggishness is to reboot. With 11.4, the problem is worse because the system boots and automatically partially dims the screen, thus making it even more necessary to change the brightness. Neither Gnome nor KDE are able to change the brightness via their power managers. This means that I can't dim my screen automatically upon disconnecting the A/C power.
I have read many experiences from Ubuntu and openSUSE users, who all have the same problem. I have tried both intellegacy and the new intel drivers, and they both have the problem. I have read that some users have improved the situation by upgrading or downgrading the BIOS. Others have been experimenting with kernel patches:

I put the configuration for the synaptics touchpad in it and in the gnome preferences/mouse my touchpad actually was recognized by its name. But still it didn't work :/ I tried deleting my xorg.conf and making a xorg.conf.d directory with synaptics.conf because I saw someone recommend it in another thread. But now the gnome/mouse settings doesn't see it and it still doesn't work. I've read several threads from Arch Linux's forums saying it may be that the module is loaded twice, but I really have no idea.

I have an Acer Aspire 5102 notebook computer with the infamous Broadcom 4318 chipset. In the past I have had to install FW cutter & proprietary drivers to get this chipset to work with Ubuntu. With the release of Ubuntu 10.10 Marverick Meercat I seem to remember the WiFi working immediately after installation; although I could be mistaken.
Will I have to go through similar gymnastics to get Debian to work on my system; or do you think it will work right away?
I am using a old laptop as a server now and its running great! I would like to disable sleep/hibernation when I close the lid (i would prefer the screen still shut off if possible) ...
This has to be done via command line because I don't use a gui ...
How to completely disable hibernation in Debian Squeeze (with KDE). If it's impossible to disable it for whole system, I want to hide button in KDE menu.

This is debian testing with kernel 2.6.38.4 "hibarnation-disk" hibernate successfully ,with an error though ( seen from hibernate-disk -v2 --dry-run) hibernate-disk:Warning: Tuxonice binary signature file not found Anyhow , after executing the hibernation , on the next boot, the system boots from scratch and not from the resume image. During boot a message is displayed though Invalidating stale software suspend images I have done some google search but none of the solution work so far, including reinstalling the package itself.

My Acer Aspire 7552 laptop is running Debian Testing (just the main repos, no contrib or non-free). For some reason, it takes over five minutes to resume from suspend, and an absurd period to come back from hibernate (well over half an hour). Has anyone encountered this problem before, or have any tips on how to fix it? For the time being, I'm completely powering off every time I close my laptop because it's faster that way.

i tried to install ubuntu 9.10 in my acer aspire lap. i got the ubuntu CD by parcel.i was able to select the language, then second option -install ubuntu also went rite, after that nothing is happening. how can i correct it?
