This was found under the screensaver configuration.The screen tool for Gnome3 does not offer "never" as an option. Does anyone know how to stop Fedora 15/Gnome 3 from turning off the display?

I have a little brother who is handicapped and uses the machine he was sat by the computer with a blank screen at which point my dad soft rebooted the machine (he will sit at the machine if its not working but he cant tell us its not working). I don't know if the below caused the machine to stop displaying?

View 4 Replies View Relatedthe screen is still on but it's like the computer is going idle or something, It makes watching tv shows/movies pretty hard. I have to constantly keep moving the mouse. I have a pentium 4 with about 600 megs of ram. Latest version of Xubuntu.I went into screensaver options and power management options. It's set to two hours before the screensaver comes on, and never to put the screen idle but the screen seems to do it every 20-30 minutes.I'm not entirely sure where to look now, i don't think there could be anything wrong with the hardware, otherwise moving the mouse wouldn't make the screen come back on.

The Default Power Manager does not have an option for this.My screen will go blank after a set amount of time, but the lcd-backlight will remain on. I would want the power manager to shut the screen off completely (including turning off the lcd backlight) without shutting down the computer it-self. So the computer can continue to do what I left it to do in the case I forget to close the lid. With the screen shut off completely, will preserve the life of the back light and reduce power consumption.
Is there a better power manager app that will allow me to do this a tweak to the existing default power manager that will allow the functionality I am seeking? laptop was perfectly able to do this under a win-xp environment, so I know the machine is physically capable of doing this. Note: My WinXP OS and Ubuntu OS are on seperate physical drives so there is no dual boot issues. So when I am using one there is no trace of the other present

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my computer running debian testing with kde. When after a while I'm away form keyboard my screen turn off for power saving, but I cannot in any way turn it on again.
I tried moving mouse, pressing some key, Ctrl + Alt + Del, Ctrl + Alt + BackSpace, Ctrl + Alt + Esc, and also Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/ecc.. No way. I had to reset my computer every time.
I have an embedded board with a small UPS. When AC power goes down, I need to turn off all power hungry devices in order to have a clean shutdown. First thing I do, is set DPMS to force powerdown, then go through the usual SIGTERM/SIGKILL/umount sequence. I have an Intel i915 Display adapter connected to an LVDS LCD panel.
Unfortunately, when Xorg dies, Xserver or the VT code turn the LCD panel back on.
I even tried working around it by directly poking the panel enable register in the Display chip, so that X doesn't know about it, but the panel goes back on when the VT comes back.
Is there any "legal" way of keeping the display off?
I just installed Mythbuntu 10.04 and have my Sony LCD TV connected via a DVI to HDMI cable. The issue I am encountering is that everything works fine until I turn off the TV and turn it back on later, because the screen stays blank and from what the TV tells me there is no signal. I have no idea what can cause this. I checked the TV settings in terms of power saving and turned it all off. I turned off the screen saver in Ubuntu, but still the same issue. My motherboard uses the ATI HD4200 onboard graphics engine
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like your input on this. A toshiba laptop screen goes blank after few seconds(from turning on).
At first i thought it was fan that was out and once it got hot enough it cut the laptop off like my old Acer did.
But after close examination i noticed that it continues working. HD still spining and fan blows..
Example: Turn on>Hit F2 to go in to Bios> Bios screen appears>Before i have a chance to do anything it geos blank but continues working> I hit Cntrl ALt Del> it resets and screen comes right back up>second later it goes blank again.
ALSO the toshiba logo and whole screen seems to have a red tint to it.
I also get a media test error but that is likely from hard drive not being there during some of the tests.
DO you think it can be an LCD Backlight issue? or possibly video card?
I have a netbook (Acer Aspire One) I'm running Slackware 13. and usually, I prefer to connect an external monitor. When I switch my machine on with the monitor connected, the display is duplicated on both screens and since I just want the netbook's screen to be off and only see the display on the external monitor, I can doxrandr --output LVDS --off
Great! However, it's a hassle to do this every time I log in and I'd like to automate the process if possible. I did some googling and I found that if you want to automate xrandr commands, you can put a script in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ (see this). I wrote the following script to automate my xrandr commands and since the Xsession.d directory didn't exist, I tried creating it. The script was called 45custom-xrandr_settings, as the one on the RandR wiki is called the same.

I started having this issue two days after installing openSUSE. When I try to boot it on battery (that is, without a energy plug) the laptop just turn off right at the beginning. I have other OS's installed and they are working properly and booting when in battery mode. I haven't got a clue of what I need to check to fix this, can anyone help me out? My laptop is a vostro V13.

This started happening about a week ago and I cant remember installing any xine related updates, but was wondering if anyone knows how to make xine keep the system active to prevent this. i have installed the new 11.2 OS, every thing went well until i switched on the desktop effect, when i clicked the apply button the whole system freezed, i had to manually switch of the system and re-started. everything went well until the username and password was entered, at the time of the progress bar the system dint respond, but the curser was moving but very slow moment was observed. i tried to repair the system with the repair system option, i tried repairing the file system i got the following error after pressing the help button
"error detected
the Ext4 file system of the partion /dev/sda6 is corrupted. to repair the file system, press repair"
and the second sda7 with the error "the Ext4 file system of the partion /dev/sda6 is corrupted. to repair the file system, press repair"
i pressed the repair button but nothing happen. and i even tried to re install the OS, the same problem exists.
I have both Computer and Display set to NEVER SLEEP in power management. yet after about five minutes of inactivity, Ubuntu always blanks out the screen (i.e., just a black monitor screen but the monitor power light is still on).How do I stop this? I want to continue to see what is on my desktop--I do not want the screen to blank out ever.

View 8 Replies View RelatedEvery time I log in, a terminal appears on my screen. Previously, I attempted to embed a terminal as part of the desktop but I have deleted all the scripts and packages used, yet the terminal still appears. It is not an embedded terminal, but it does not have the panel at the top. It appears as a window on the lower panel of my screen. Is there anyway to stop this from appearing, so I can then attempt to start over with embedding a terminal in the desktop?

I burn the DVD edition to install offline. The installation completed and rebooted the system. However, the process stop at the startup screen. And I press escape and find that the process stops at following line: Starting Avahi daemon ...

How do I stop the display from turning off? In 'System Settings/Screen', I can only choose from a preset range of minutes - there is no option to disable it. Very annoying when watching a 90 minute movie, for instance. At least under FC14 I had the disable option. I tried unchecking Power Manager in gnome-session-properties, but that disabled the system from suspending when the laptop lid is closed and might have other ramifications as well. I tried disabling Screensaver in gnome-session-properties, but 'System Settings/Screen' still showed up with the same options, so it appears to be unrelated. Anyway, I suspect this is a power management issue, not a screensaver issue.

This is a problem for me because i like to have them playing in the background then link them from tmp to home so i can watch them later.
I've set up a RAID6 array with a normal hard disk (/dev/sda) for boot. However whilst rebooting the computer I noticed that ubuntu is booting into a splash screen asking me: Can't mount /dev/md0 (which is my RAID6 array) Press s to skip, c to continue, something along those lines. The reason for this is that one of the drives from the RAID6 array was showing Uncorrectable read errors towards the end of the disk.I was unaware of. I'm in the process of replacing this.
As this server is completely headless (all I have remotely is SSH), I had to plug in a monitor and keyboard to find out that all I had to do was press S to get it to boot. Wasted around an hour for that!
So my question is, how do I get Ubuntu to stop automatically trying to mount /dev/md0 before it boots? Booting so that I can get SSH access is more important than getting the raid drive. Here is my /etc/fstab file (note I've put a # in front of /dev/md0, sdg1 and sdh1 are external ESATA drives, UUID is the swap):
