Fedora X86/64bit :: Java JRE Plugin On Firefox For 14?
Feb 13, 2011how to run a java application on a 64 bit Firefox install on Fedora, but I didn't find any simple and direct way to do it. So I'll post this here, hoping that people who search for this problem can easily find this really quick solution.
1-> on the terminal do the usual su -
2-> yum install jre
3.> make a link in /home/your_name/.mozilla/plugins/ folder to the file located at /usr/java/jre1.6.0_23/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
(just select the file, press ctrl+shift and drag it to the plugins folder)
4-> go to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp from firefox and test your install
Piece of cake, but it doesn't show up in search engines that easily when I look for: jre firefox 64 plugin fedora Granted that many tutorials mention the linking method, but most either tell you to install the binary/rpm from the java site or even installing the 32bit version for older fedoras... yum makes it so much easier.

May 9, 2009I have been using for over a year now, my 64-bit computer first with Fedora 8 and now with Fedora 10 with 2Gb of RAM just fine. Today I purchased an extra 2Gb for the system and upon installation from the GRUB screen Fedora 10 simply won't boot. It does boot with 3Gb, and it doesn't matter which stick I use for the 3Gb configuration, or what slot do I put the sticks into the motherboard, however if I place the four sticks, F10 simply won't boot. Should I pass a command line argument tot he kernel? If so, which?

If i reformat to the 64 bits one, would the DVD saved aptoncd packages from the 32 bits work on the 64 bits installation?

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

I am familiar with basic Linux commands and the message I received when after downloading the tar file and extracting it was error while loading shared libraries: /root/firefox/libxul.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied. I do not have the latest version I tried to yum update and it did not work.

Well, the problem appeared: for this v. of Thunderbird I need the package nss-3.12-8 the update manager somehow does not retireve it and I have the last (not testing version ) of nss-3.12.7-6.
I thought then to install manually and downloading nss-3.12.8-2 from RPMfind and also its dependencies nss-softtkn-3.12.8-1 , nss-softkon-freebl-3.12.8-1 and nss-util-3.12.8-1 (all the versions for my version of fedora 12, and my architecture x86-64). All went well installing the dependencies of nss, but when I tried to install nss-3.12.8-2 I get the following message

Nothing.Then I remembered I disabled my flash plugin in firefox. so I enabled it. It's works again. I get the same error as in the picture all over again.So if that doesn't make my vps control panel work, what do I need to do to make it work? I tried in windows and it had to install the flasplayer plugin before it worked - Are there more than one flashplayer plugins?

Feb 7, 2010I decided to see if I could update my Firefox install that comes with Crunchbang Linux (cut-down Ubuntu).
I followed the Mozilla instructions to the letter and the first thing I found was that I had missing files and or directories. With this in mind and thinking about it - I uninstalled my current Firefox with the Package manager.
I then followed the install instrcutions again but, this time telling the system where to find the .tar.bz2 file I donwloaded (version 3.6 from the mozilla site).
Everything appeared to extract and following the instructions for starting Firefox - I got version 3.0.17, exactly the same as I already had.

Apr 15, 2010Is it possible to have both 32 and 64bit java installed? I am trying to run the java SAP GUI. Im using F12 64bit and have got a working 64bit java. The SAP GUI errors when trying to connect and it looks like it wants 32bit. I found a doc saying to run the following which I have done but still not working.
