Debian Hardware :: Linksys WUSB54G V1 Just Not Work

May 13, 2010

this card has notoriously horrible linux support; how to fix this and nobody ever seems to get it work. But it was working natively on ubuntu, so I know it can be done. I just don't know *how*. I downloaded the isl3890usb firmware, placed it in /usr/local/lib/firmware or whatever the path was in the guide. Soon after, iwconfig was giving me an interface! However it stopped working at this point. I tried iwlist wlan0 scan, but it always just says "no scan results." I manually configure everything and dhclient just tells me "no offers recieved." It appears to have an interface but is just not working at all. Where do I go from here?

Ubuntu Networking :: Linksys WUSB54G - Hook Up Through Wireless With Device

Dec 14, 2010

I have a Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter, 2.4 GHz, 802.11g. It hooks up through USB plug, and when I originally plugged it in I got the message that ubuntu didn't support the drivers, but haven't seen it since. I'm hooked up to a LAN cable right now, and can't seem to figure out how to hook up through wireless with this device. Or I just don't know how. When I click on the network connections button on the top right corner (the two computers). I can see my Wired Internet, but no wireless. When I type lsusb in a terminal I get : (sorry I don't know how to do code blocks) So it is recognizing that it's there, but maybe I just don't know how to use it. Also, I'm running Ubuntu Release 10.04 (lucid).

Ubuntu Networking :: Linksys WUSB54g V4 - Disconnect And Require Me To Unplug The Device?

Jun 1, 2010

Bus 001 Device 008: ID 13b1:000d Linksys WUSB54G Wireless Adapter
wlan1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:f8:33:91:7d
inet addr:192.168.1.100 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0[code]........

It is the linksys WUSB54g V4, im assuming it runs on the rt2500 chipset, when im connected and working it runs fine, however if i try to let a download run, it generally will disconnect and require me to unplug the device and plug it back in to get it working again, i cant just reconnect if i do that it simply wont connect, im connecting to a linksys router with the most recent firmware i think its the wrt54g v7, its setup using a wpa personal password and im connected through manual entry of my ip address due to port forwarding for some of my games, however the same issue persists even when im connected through an automatic configuration.

Software :: Linksys Wmp54gsv1_1 To Work With Ubuntu 9.1?

Okay so I've had very little experience with Ubuntu. I'm familiar with the GUI and such, and very few commands on terminal.

I did a bit of research on my card and its capabilities with Ubuntu. I've downloaded and installed "ndisgtk" and it works. I also found the proper "sys" and "inf" files to my card.

In addition to that I've blacklisted all of the free wireless drivers in Ubuntu.

When I try to load the "inf" file with ndisgtk, it says "unable to tell whether hardware is present or not".

Fedora Networking :: Get Linksys WEC600n Card To Work?

Nov 26, 2009

First off I'd like to say if I hadn't put Fedora on my USB stick I'd never discovered that my old laptop had built in wifi, and it was just disabled in the BIOS. I was originally trying to get my Linksys WEC600n card to work. Once I turned on the internal wifi, and took out the linksys card, fedora picked it up right away. My problem is when I try going to websites they won't work, except for FedoraProject. (If I try to navigate to the FP forums it doesn't work either.) I'm not sure what would be the cause of this, so I have no idea where to start.

1. It had my wireless network in the list.
2. I put in my WEP key.
3. It appeared to connect fine.
4. Websites won't load.
5. ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Get Linksys Wireless Card To Work

Jul 10, 2011

I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 and for several days have tried many, many different ways of installing my Linksys WPC 11 wireless card into my IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop.

I have got the wireless working by installing Ubuntu 8 and then upgrading to the current version, and I would assume some drivers are currently installed.

As usual though, the signal drops out after only a few minutes and I have to keep re-booting the laptop to continue what I'm doing.

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting Gigabyte And Linksys Wireless Cards To Work On Laptop

Feb 8, 2010

I've got an old laptop wich wireless adapter is a Gigabyte GN-WI01 GS MINI PCI(its chipset is Realtek RTL8169/8110, I believe) and I'm not able to make it run in Wifislax 3.1 Live CD. I downloaded the linux drivers for it and tried to install them following the instructions but when it came the time to execute configure.sh it told me that I had to actualize some kind of packets first(GK+ or something like that can't remember ). I also have another wireless usb adapter that I tried to use too. It's a Linksys WUSB54g v4(chipset: rt2570). I tried to follow a guide I found about making run an adapter like that on Wifislax 3.1 but when I had to "Force ralink rt73 on rt2500" it doesn't appear on my Live CD version, it appears "Force ralink rt73 on rt2570", dunno if it has something to be but I get an error while making it.

I don't know if it has to be with my laptop, my wireless adapters or my way of following the steps. If it has to be with my adapters I would like to buy some new one(not very expensive) that I won't have any problems running it on Wifislax and that will work on my old laptop(cause I just have that one and can't afford a new one).

Fedora Networking :: FC10 - Wifi Devices To Work On 128bit WEP Network - Linksys Wireless-G And 5100AGN

Jun 20, 2009

I'm having trouble getting my wifi devices to work on my 128bit WEP network. I have a new Thinkpad T400, with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN. I also have some cardbus cards: a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold, a Linksys Wireless-G, and a TRENDnet TEW-421PC. I have them set up as interfaces eth2, eth1, and eth3. (The TRENDnet isn't recognised as a network card at all, so no interface for it.) I have installed the latest firmware for the Linksys card.

The /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files are virtually identical for all of them, differing only in the HWADDR and DEVICE lines. So here's the behaviour:

1. The Lucent card comes up just fine.
2. The internal 5100AGN and the Linksys cards won't come up, and watching with iwconfig shows that they're either associated with my AP OR they've got an encryption key set -- but not both.
3. When trying to bring up the 5100AGN, I get the following messages:

iwlagn: index 0 not used in uCode key table
iwlagn: index 3 not used in uCode key table

/var/log/messages shows DHCPDISCOVER requests being sent, but they're bound to fail since the association with the AP with WEP isn't being completed. And yes, the ifcfg-* files really *are* identical except for the DEVICE and HWADDR lines. The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file correctly maps the interfaces to the MAC addresses. So why does my antique ORiNOCO card work and thew newer ones fail? How can I track down what's being done wrong/not being done?

Ubuntu Networking :: WUSB54G V4 Wireless Adapter - Continues To Slow Down To Crawl

Sep 6, 2010

I have a number of computers working just fine on my wireless network so I don't believe it is a router issue. I am running 10.04 on a dell gx280. I plug in the WUSB54g and ubuntu sees it and it connects to the internet just as it should. I can surf the internet thruough different browsers, and although a little sluggish, it works just fine. The problem is when I download a file. It starts out working as it should but continues to slow down to a crawl. Update manager had a 54MB update, it started out downloading, but then said it would take 2 hours so I just cancelled. I have several WUSB54g's and they all have the same issue. I changed to a different type of adapter, and the update manager only took a couple of minutes.

Networking :: "wireless Repeater" - Plug-in A Linksys USB Stick Doesn't Work

Mar 13, 2010

I have a DSL modem with four ports and a built-in wireless router downstairs. It works great: I have wired Ethernet for my PCs downstairs (all plugged in directly to the DSL modem); my son has great wireless access upstairs (using the built-in wireless in his laptop). PROBLEM: I want to add another, desktop, PC upstairs. I've been trying to use wireless, with a plug-in a Linksys USB stick. It doesn't work worth crap.

I'm considering a) getting another phone jack upstairs, and moving my DSL modem there, or b) stringing some CAT-5 cable from the modem downstairs to the PC upstairs. Putting a wireless PCI card in my upstairs desktop PC might also solve the problem, but the PC only has one PCI slot, and I'd rather keep it free, if at all possible.

QUESTION: Is there any kind of "wireless repeater", where I can a) get wireless access from my DSL modem/wireless base station downstairs, and b) give me some spare Ethernet ports, so I can plug in desktop PC (so the PC can have a wired Ethernet connection)? POSSIBLE SOLUTION: I have an old Linksys WRT54G router that I'm not using. Q: Is there any way to configure it for this purpose? Q: Would it be possible to use it for this purpose if I installed OpenWRT?

Ubuntu Networking :: Linksys WUSB600N Rev 1 Should "just Work" With 11.04

May 4, 2011

I see a bunch of posts about WUSB600N, often telling folks to download and compile proprietary drivers from ralink's website. With Ubuntu 11.04, getting WUSB600N to work might be as simple as disabling rt2870sta (for rev1). If you have rev 2 card, driver to disable is I believe rt3572sta. Even if you need to recompile drivers by hand, the right thing to do is to first try nightly build of rt2x00 drivers from [URL], and fall back to ralink provided drivers only if things do not work out with rt2x00 drivers. I saw recent updates on rt2x00 mailing list for rt3572 chip, give it a try if you have rev 2 card.

WUSB600N rev 1 (rt2870 chip) should "just work" with rt2x00 driver included with 2.6.38 kernel in Ubuntu 11.04. At least it works for me. You may need to blacklist rt2870sta driver from staging directory so that it does not load and interfere with rt2x00 drivers. There's one small annoying issue with power save mode on rt2870 chip when rt2x00 is in use, which seems to have just been fixed upstream. Most users will never notice it, but if you do notice card re-connecting to AP every 10-20 minutes or so, simply disable power saving, and all will be smooth (iwconfig wlan0 power off). If you have an older Ubuntu release (kernel 2.6.35) and rev 1 card, you should be able to download nightly build of rt2x00 driver from [URL]. It worked for me just fine with previous Ubuntu releases.

Debian :: Dell XPS L501 And Debian - Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/ Doesn't Work ?

Jan 22, 2011

I'm trying to install Debian on Dell XPS L501, and there are lots of problems...

1- Resolution is 800x600! I guess, I need to add that there is no xorg.conf file, and I couldn't create it by running `Xorg -configure`. It said the number of screens didn't match number of detected devices or something like that! I'd be really happy if this gets solved!

2- Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/... doesn't work! Sometimes Alt+Directional keys works. but most of the time it doesn't!

3- I can't get the loud speakers to work, and I couldn't compile Alsa from source... I'll try again, but does anyone know if there is a specific package I need to install to get them to work? (Realtek ID 665)

4- Keys are not working right... Function keys don't work... But the worse thing, is that if let's say Fn+F2 is supposed to disable wireless, F2 does!
